Chapter 2: Chapter 2: They have a reason for choosing you!

After running for what felt like eternity, Justin finally got to the capital? Why did it take so long to get to? Wasn't that the same road he took to and fro each day?

He checked the timer, it was over!

(Ding! Congratulations on surviving the beast raid!) The system congratulated and his eyes twitched.

He gave out heavily from exhaustion.

"Argh!" He collapsed on the ground. "You've got to be kidding me! This shit is real!"

(Warning… )

"I know! I wasn't talking to you, dammit!" He laid on the ground. 'Shit, how did I get myself involved in this?' he thought and watched the dark purple sky.

Was it a coincidence that he got connected to this system the same time the sky turned dark purple?

"Hey you!" he called and sat up. "Are you responsible for this unusual sky?" He asked.

(No!) The system responded.

"Hm, you're not talking as much as you usually do. You know something, don't you?"

(.....)

"Ha! Not so chatty now, are ya?" The system remained silent but then asked a question that was unrelated to his question.

(Are you ready to take the system seriously now?)

Justin got up from the ground and dust his bottom.

"Well, you tell me something. I'm not exactly your ideal type of human. I don't give a crap about humanity or anyone else but myself."

(I am aware of that!)

"You are? Then why? Why did you choose me even knowing all that because something tells me you're not here to make me live out my scummy life!" He pointed out and the system fell silent for about five seconds.

(They have a reason for choosing you!)

"They?" He raised his eyebrows. "Who are 'they'?"

(The gods!)

Hearing this, Justin started laughing.

"The gods? Are you talking about the gods that abandoned this land a century ago?" He laughed. "You're kidding, right? Where have they been all this while, chilling?"

(Information about the gods is locked. To access, users must get to level 50!)

"Well, that's too bad!" He scoffed. "It's not like I was eager to know about them either!" He started walking. "Anyway, can I refuse? I don't think the 'gods' chose the right guy!"

(You're the god's chosen!)

The system stated and he stopped walking.

"God's chosen? That sounds like fun, only, what's it to me? I mean, how will this benefit me?"

(You will be seen as a hero and… )

"Whoa, hold it there! I asked what's it to me and not what's it to the empire." He said with a serious gaze.

(What would you like?)

Justin's lips curled up in a smirk.

"Now we're talking!" He resumed walking and said, "Anything that's gold will do! Money is an excellent price, don't you think?"

(... )

"What?"

(You're a greedy fellow!) It stated and Justin laughed.

"Hello, have you heard the name, the scum of the slums? I'm well known by everyone in the capital. If you wanna judge me, you better get in line cause the queue is really really long!" He shrugged his shoulders. "Suit yourself!"

There was a little silence from the system before it spoke again.

(Being god's chosen comes with extreme responsibility and steadfastness!)

Justin picked his ear with his pinky finger as he listened to the system.

"And I've got one of those!" He flicked his finger and sighed. "Look, if the gods want me to be their 'chosen', they'll have to pay the price, make a little deposit first and then I'll be serious!" He said and continued his walk.

The system went quiet for a while and Justin thought he had finally gotten some peace when he heard it again.

(Ding! The gods have approved your demands and have deposited one million gold coins in a barrel into your inventory!)

Justin's eyes widened in awe and delight. He didn't believe they would do it.

"Now we're talking!" He got his hopes up and was already preparing what he would do with that much money when the system said,

(But… )

"But?"

(Users can only access this gold after completing daily quests for a month!)

"What?!" He exclaimed in shock. "That's not what I want!"

(Do you want to give it up?)

Just twisted his mouth. He felt the system was trying to play him. Well, two can play that game.

"Fine!" He agreed and scratched the back of his head. "Let's see what… " his eyes landed on the city guard and they pointed at him.

"Over there!" They started chasing him and he took to his heels

Justin knew better than anyone not to go head to head with the guards.

He was a wanted criminal for all the wrong reasons and was also in the radar of all the city guards.

After giving the guards a little slip, he noticed the system window, which had been in front of him the whole time, had disappeared.

"What, have you given up on me already?" He asked, sarcastically.

(No! But when you need to view the window, just call!)

"Okay!" He stretched his back and it cracked. "I think I've had enough running for today!" He said and cleared his throat.

Though he was unsure of the system, now that he agreed to be a gods 'chosen', he had to at least check it out.

"System, tell me more about how this works!" He requested and the window opened before him, showing his full stat.

He looked at the stats and frowned, "I knew I had no special power or magical prowess but I feel these stats are just mocking me!"

(At least your constitution is high!)

"Is that supposed to cheer me up? I've been through a hell of a lot since I was born, that's got to be a given!" He clicked his tongue.

(Would you like to raise your stats?) It offered. (Once they're high enough, you could be considered the strongest man in the empire!) He shook his head.

"No, thanks! I'd rather be invincible!" Justin said and tapped the store.
