Chapter 10: Nomination Party

It's 8pm and the first guests are arriving, some of them parents, students, businessmen, politicians and quite a few journalists. Luke is welcoming them, he's always very nice, Justin helps him too, they're really happy to be together again.
The boys are playing, the guests are chatting, drinking and eating and Luan looks at his watch and it's already 8:30 p.m. He looks at his cell phone and sees a message from his mother, telling him that she's already arrived at the party.
Ana has indeed arrived at the party, and is looking for Luke, she sees him, and when a waiter passes by with a tray she takes a glass of champagne and drinks it all in one go, and heads towards Luke.
"You're not getting away from me today, Luke."
Ana is walking towards Luke, when Justin sees her and goes to meet her, pulling her to go to the office and talk. Luke looks over to see Justin taking Ana to the office, and goes to follow, but Emily grabs him by the arm first.
"Luke, where are you going? You have to stay here and welcome the guests."
He gently releases her hand from his arm.
"You can do that for me Emily, I'll be right back."
So he goes into the office and stands in the doorway, listening to Justin talking to Ana. Ana is very irritated by the whole situation, and Justin tries to calm her down, so Luke goes in with his best smile and just as he's about to enter the office, someone interrupts him.
It's Mr. Scoot and his secretary who have arrived, along with Mark, Max (Mr. Scoot's eldest son) and Tommy. The journalists are all excitedly taking photos, and he spots Luke and goes straight over to greet him.
"Good evening Luke Becker..."
Luke takes a deep breath.
"Oh good evening, Mr. Scoot, long time no see! I bet you missed me?"
Mr. Scoot gives a half-hearted smile.
"I thought you weren't coming back anymore Luke, it wasn't nice there in the remote village."
"Oh, it was very nice, but I know you missed me, so I came back, surprise"
Then he walks away from Luke, and says to Secretary Lee
"How I hate him, always arrogant, never loses his pose, one day I'm going to wipe that little smile off his face."
Luan is looking for his mother while the band takes a break, he sees Ana and Justin leaving the office, she still looks a little annoyed because she hasn't managed to talk to Luke yet, Luan calls her.
"Mom, where were you? I'm looking for you."
"Oh my darling son, I'm here, I've only just arrived!"
Luan looks at his mother in a beautiful dress, and as always compliments her.
"How beautiful you look! You're such a work of art."
"Oh dear, thank you, but you're the beautiful one here."
Grandpa Han and Grandma arrive at the party, go to Luan and his mother Ana, and ask Luan to go with them to Luke's, because they're going to make an announcement.
"Come on...come on Luan, the day has come to tell everyone that we're a family, so get ready, and give that beautiful smile as usual!"
"Grandpa... but I'm not ready for this..."
Grandpa pushes him closer to Luke, and they get close. Then Luke smiles at Luan, Luan still doesn't like it but tries to smile back, Luke then taps his spoon on the champagne glass, calling all the partygoers, the boys from the band and other students who are present, everyone is in the room waiting for Luke's pronouncement.
"Attention, everyone, we have a big announcement to make."
"Thank you all for your presence and for coming to see us, I have an important announcement to make with my family, and to introduce my much-loved son, Luan."
Luan, not at all amused, has to step into the role of son, and he smiles, greeting everyone.
Grandma Han is complete.
"I'm immensely happy today, because I have my beloved family all together again, so call Justin and Derick over so they can all be close.
The guests celebrate with claps, some surprised.
Tommy stands there in disbelief and looks at Mark, who doesn't seem surprised.
"Why didn't anyone tell me that Luan is the son of the Director and the grandson of the then ex-Director?"
Mark laughs. "I let you bust your face alone Tommy, am I going to learn now? Haha."
"Gee... you should have told me before Mark, I'm screwed now!"
The photographers start taking pictures of the Becker family, asking for poses, and asking to take a picture of father and son together.
"Oh please, a picture of father and son together!"
Luan is a little lost, but he doesn't lose his pose for the photos, so they both pose for the photographers.
"Please come closer, give me a hug!"
Luan thinks:
(Oh, this day has really come...ok "happy family" photo)
He keeps smiling for the cameras, and Luke is the same way, they don't miss a photo.
Ana is looking at the two of them, when July Derick's mother arrives and makes a toast with her.
"Hi Ana...one thing you can't deny, these two are very similar!"
Ana laughs.
"Yeah, it's not like they haven't seen each other for years!"
Justin asks Luan to come over and ask him a favor.
"Luan, come here, it's the last request I have for tonight, I promise."
Luan then goes over to him, he turns to Luke and nudges him to make the request.
"Luke, what were you going to ask Luan anyway?"
"Oh...well,...I...would like you to debut the new piano, and play some Piano."
Luan then agrees, and Luke tells the guests.
"My dears, I'm going to ask for your attention once again ...my son Luan Becker, is going to play some more today, only piano now, I've ordered an exclusive Piano for him."
So Luan gets ready and plays a part of a short, touching piece!
Ana even gets emotional:
"So beautiful." snif
Clap, Clap
The guests clap and cheer Luan on.
"What a brilliant son you have Luke!"
"Yes, this family, always talented!"
Luan then asks to be excused because he's feeling a bit tired. He goes towards his friends, who are sitting by the pool, there are Kenji, Theo, Mary, Lena, Andrew and Derick arrives later, when Luan is passing through the door between the living room and the pool, he bumps into Tommy.
"Hey, Luan, so today is the day of revelations!"
"I bet you're going to hide behind Grandpa and Daddy now, aren't you?"
"Oh, no I never had to, now I won't have to!"
Luan ends up bumping into Tommy as he dodges him, Tommy gets angry and goes after Luan, he tries to push Luan, but Luan dodges and Tommy ends up falling into the pool!
Splashh...
"I hate you!"
Mark then looks over, pretends he didn't see and continues walking with Ren, while San tries to help him out of the pool, but Tommy is so desperate that he pulls San along. The boys and girls laugh, they can't hide their delight at this scene.
Other people go to help, and Tommy takes it and leaves the party very angry.
Luan sits down next to his friends.
"I didn't do anything, you saw, didn't you?"
"No, you didn't do anything, he fell by himself! Haha"
Then Luke and Justin go over to the students and Luke tells them
"Guys, we've come to tell you that we're going camping this weekend, remember the message we sent out this week? We've already booked the place for this weekend, so don't forget to take the items on the list in your backpacks, and wear comfortable clothes."
Mary and Luan nod, but Luan looks doubtful.
"Camp? What camp?"
Derick pats Luan on the back.
"That's camping, they've already booked it, Luan."
Mary looks at Luan and confirms.
"Yes, a camp for just a few students, so we'll help divide up the groups, right Luan?"
Luan, still confused and surprised.
(It's my birthday tomorrow, I can't remember the last time I went camping).
Then he confirms.
"Oh, yes, I'll help, it would be great fun!"
(I hope so.)
Mary warns.
"We'll know the division of the groups first thing tomorrow."
Everyone then gets excited.
"That's great! "
"Let's go camping!"
"Wow, it's been a long time since I've been camping!"
Luan thinks to himself, his friends have kept a lot of things from him this week, or it's him who hasn't paid attention to the facts.
(Why didn't they tell me? Or is it me who can't concentrate on anything other than the Test? I feel like I'm losing control of something...)
Derick notices that Luan is airborne.
(Luan is different from his usual self, so yes I think I was right to ask you to avoid certain subjects at the moment, our time of calm is running out, the Awakening test is in 5 days, and everything will probably get more intense from now on...)
