Chapter 8: It's only a Skrull, no big deal

They came to 'L' and Carol started looking through files as an orange cat walked over, meowing. Nick looked down at the cat and it looked up at him, meowing. Nick stared at the cat for a moment before picking it up and saying "How did you even get in here, Goose."

Goose meowed and Nick held him in one hand, picking out a file. He turned the file over, saying "Look at that, Lawson's dead, Pilot went missing. Doesn't say a name." Carol looked over and Nick sneered, "Fortunately for us, the rookie in charge of redacting this case clearly needs a prescription." as he showed her a picture of herself prepping the plane.

Carol took the picture, completely dumbfounded, she stared at the picture as Nick put Goose down, scratching his head as he said "Can you find the Skrulls for me, Goose?" Goose rolled over and exposed his belly as Nick's lips twitched.

He scratched Goose's belly as Goose purred happily.

Carol read through the files, muttering "These are the Blueprints for the lightspeed engine… And this woman, Maria Rambeau… She should know something." Nick looked up and saw R. Keller walking over.

Nick looked at him saying "Boss." Keller looked at him and asked, "What are you doing, Nicholas?" Nick stood up and smiled, "I brought the suspicious woman here, just like you told me to." Carol froze as Nick walked over to Keller, saying seriously, "She's highly dangerous."

Keller nodded before Nick punched him in the face, smashing his skull into the records shelf. Keller slammed into the ground and looked up at Nick, who said coldly, "Nobody calls me, Nicholas." Keller got up and his voice changed, "Should've got more info then, mate. You should know, Skrulls are stronger than humans." as he punched at Nick.

Nick used Bullet time and dodged the punch, uppercutting Keller in the chin and stomping on his stomach, shooting him across the walkway in between the record shelves.

Carol was stunned as Nick walked over, stepping on Keller's chest as he leaned his arms on his knee, holding a gun in his hand, saying "Don't seem so strong to me, pal. What did you say your name was again?" he waved the gun in Keller's face, smiling "Actually, I don't care. Any last words?"

Keller looked at him and smirked, "You should've left." Nick frowned and the doors started opening all around them, Keller returned to his non-Skrull voice, "Here! Fury's a turncoat! He's with the woman!" Nick looked at him and said "You're gonna pay for that." Keller grinned, "Nah, don't think so." Carol grabbed Nick and blasted through the ceiling, jumping out as they started running away.

Keller got up and shouted "Follow them!" before speaking into a radio, "I want all units at every entrance and exit, lock down the facility and be on the lookout for Agent Fury with an unidentified woman."

Nick and Carol were running in the halls and she looked at him, saying "Nice one!" Nick glared at her, retorting "It's my fault?!" Carol growled angrily, "If you didn't make a scene, we would've been gone!" Nick retorted, "How was I supposed to know he called for back-up? I was clearly beating his ass!"

Carol rolled her eyes and stopped talking as they ran down the stairwell, coming out in the Hangar bay. Carol pointed at the big ship, saying, "That one!" Nick asked dubiously, "You know how to fly a plane?" Carol and Nick hopped over the railing, landing on the runway as she replied, "I flew a spaceship, can't be that much harder, right?"

Nick almost collapsed, saying seriously, "It 100% can." as he got in the plane, adding, "I'll fly." Carol pouted, "I'M the pilot!" Nick sat in the pilot's seat, looking at her as he retorted, "I thought you were Kree Starforce." while starting the plane.

She sat in the co-pilot's seat and grinded her teeth angrily, "I'm really starting to doubt our friendship." Nick drove the plane on the runway as he replied, "What friendship?" before the plane took off and flew away from the Field building.

Carol glared at him before turning around and shorting in a huff, even puffing her cheeks. Nick ignored her before turning behind him to see Goose tagged along. Nick leveled the plane and Goose landed back on the floor, hopping into Carol's lap, purring happily.

Nick continued flying and ignored Carol's various attempts at getting his attention.

They flew above the clouds and Carol finally said, "Where are we going?" Nick looked out the window, replying "I'm thinking your buddy Maria Rambeau might have some news for you." Carol pursed her lips, holding Goose and scratching behind his ears as she said "Thanks."

Nick paused and looked over, she snorted and turned to the window, saying "I'm starting to realize that you're making more sense the more I'm on this planet…" Nick chuckled and turned back to the sky, saying "Turns out leopards do change their spots, I'm amazed." Carol turned back to him, saying angrily "Don't get used to it! I'm just thanking you for being useful, that's all."

Nick snorted and curled his lips, "Alright, sweetheart. Whatever you say." Carol clicked her tongue and turned back, snorting angrily. Nick just laughed softly, turning on the music on the plane.

Carol paused and turned to the music while looking at Nick with raised eyebrows.

Nick ignored her and sung to himself, "Until I see the mornin' sun creep through your window pane, cus love won't let me wait~" Carol's eyes twitched and she turned back, not saying anything as the plane turned in the sky, flying towards Louisiana to find Maria Rambeau.
