Chapter 15: Chapter 13: Detective Hunter

Chapter 13: Detective Hunter

"The issue is that this aftermath is quite intense. Afterward, I either feel an urge to shoot those gang members on the street or my mind becomes flooded with explicit thoughts, like some sort of sex maniac."

Maybe due to cultural differences, Jack was taken aback by the response from the beautiful psychologist.

"Do you have any impulses to shoot random pedestrians or colleagues or feel a desire to pounce on women?"

Jack shook his head promptly, "Absolutely not. To be precise, it's an extreme aversion to those criminals, almost like having OCD. I can suppress it with rationality, but it makes me very irritable."

"What about impulsive thoughts?" Maureen inquired further.

Jack hesitated, "Uh, it's just persistent fantasies about being with Zoe."

"Only with Zoe?" Maureen's expression was subtly intriguing.

Could this woman with glasses really have feelings for me, as Zoe suggested? A thought crossed Jack's mind. Despite having only basic skills in psychology, he could clearly read emotions. He put on a somewhat bashful expression, blushing slightly and stumbling over his words.

"And also with Hannah, and later...uh, with you?"

"So, is it limited to women you are familiar with? I heard your training officer, Angela, is quite attractive too." Maureen maintained a casual demeanor, lightly biting her pink lips, seemingly contemplating, but her blushing ears revealed her inner turmoil.

This woman with glasses really seems to have feelings for me. No wonder she's a psychologist. No wonder she intentionally played to my preferences with her appearance today. Jack's heart stirred, but he remained composed on the surface.

"I have great respect for Officer Angela. How could I have such thoughts about her?" In truth, Jack had never entertained any improper thoughts about Angela.

Growing up with four older brothers, she had developed a competitive and assertive personality, making her an excellent.

"So, your most urgent need now is to address this aftermath." Holding her teacup, Maureen took another sip, pondering for a moment before suggesting a solution.

"Why don't you do this: the next time you encounter such a situation, contact me immediately. I have an office at the Central Hospital where I can test your hormone levels. I need to determine if this is a physiological or psychological response."

"Uh..." Jack showed a hint of embarrassment. Maureen's suggestion was an extra favor. Seeking psychological help in the US was expensive, and he wasn't sure if the police medical insurance would cover it. Besides, he was currently facing financial constraints.

"Haha, don't worry. Since you want to keep it private, this is me helping you personally. If you feel uneasy about it, treat me to a meal. I've been craving your cooking for a long time."

"No problem, thank you, Maureen." While Maureen's gesture might be influenced by Zoe, as the beneficiary, Jack was genuinely appreciative. As a psychologist, Maureen undoubtedly belonged to the middle to upper echelons in the United States, both in terms of income and social status.

Even if she does have feelings for me, considering her figure that rivals Victoria's Secret models, except for a slight age difference, it's hard to say who would be at a disadvantage.

Thanking Maureen with a hug, Jack left the office, unaware of her subtly nuanced expression.

As Jack walked away, Maureen closed the door and excitedly pulled out her phone like a little girl. "Hey, Zoe, your BOYFRIEND just left. He said he's fine with his situation, so don't worry. I know he's important to you, so I'm sure you'll want to be present. His willpower is incredibly strong, with an extraordinary sense of self-morality. Yes, just like those old-school tough guys you see in movies. You lucky woman."

For the next day and a half, Jack shuttled between the bank and the community college. Even attending a community college in the United States was no easy task and required a significant amount of money, sometimes surpassing the cost of police academy training. Fortunately, the LAPD would repay student loans, making it a feasible option for an ordinary person to become a police officer in Los Angeles.

Just wondering if the American TV world will face a Floyd incident. If that occurs, the police in the US might become scapegoats, absorbing the frustrations of those in power. Even with good treatment, nobody would want to be a cop.

Jack's plan was to complete community college as quickly as possible and aim to move away from frontline patrol. He considered becoming a detective or applying to a joint task force like Hannah; anything would be better than risking getting shot while patrolling the streets.

On the third day of his vacation, Hannah had a day off. Their drug dealer raid went smoothly, and only she and Angela refrained from firing their guns when they arrested the guy with the knit cap.

Early in the morning, the enthusiastic little sweetheart went upstairs to wake Jack. She had already arranged for them to visit the Hunter couple, and the elderly pair warmly welcomed them. Today was the agreed-upon day. Jack was roused from sleep by this excited girl, yawning as he got up to prepare breakfast.

Pursuing a college degree in midlife was indeed challenging, but fortunately, his body was still youthful, and his memory and energy were at their peak. Furthermore, after his mental power surpassed 20, he noticed a significant improvement in effectiveness. Last night, he briefly perused the textbooks for several required courses he received, and the difficulty wasn't too high; he could manage them easily in his spare time.

However, although the community college courses weren't overly difficult, the professors were stricter for those aiming to obtain their degrees early. Jack chose to major in psychology, hoping for a quick and comprehensive result. This major would benefit his future detective work, and it was part of the system panel skills. If needed, he could even use system coins to directly update some courses.

At 9 o'clock in the morning, Hannah parked the car in front of an exquisite little villa on Maryland Street. Jack stepped out of the car and retrieved a gift from the trunk - a bottle of vintage whiskey, one of the precious treasures he brought from the small grocery store. Hannah had also prepared a bouquet of roses.

Strolling through the front lawn of the villa, Jack furrowed his brows. It was evident that the lawn had once been well-maintained, with a circle of red roses planted around the fence. However, it seemed to have been neglected in the past few months, with plenty of weeds and the roses looking somewhat disarrayed.

Noticing Jack's signal with his eyes, Hannah also looked concerned. Could something have happened to the elderly couple recently?

The door opened, and a graceful Dee Dee McCall appeared before them.

"Mrs. Hunter, it's a pleasure to see you." Hannah warmly embraced the woman and handed her the bouquet of flowers.

"Hello, Hannah. I'm also delighted to see you again." Dee Dee McCall received the roses with a pleasantly surprised expression.
