Chapter 9: Mentor Assignment

"However, we must remind you that this is only the beginning of your journey within the Rosevine Coven," an elder continued. "You have proven your potential, but now the real challenge lies ahead. You will undergo rigorous training and face various trials to hone your skills and cultivate your strengths."

The three examinees nodded in understanding.

"You will now have a mentor assigned, who will guide you through your cultivation journey within the Coven," another elder explained. "Your mentors will help you unlock your full potential and assist you in navigating the challenges that lie ahead."

Seraphina couldn't help but feel the anticipation as the elder spoke. She had come to Aetheria with a mission, and now she was a member of the Rosevine Coven.

"I will train hard and make the most of this opportunity. The Grand Sect Tournament is very important, and I'll need to be there to get 'that'!" Seraphina vowed silently to herself.

"For now, follow me as we show you the quarters for temporary recruits. Many don't pass the first time, and they can try five times. You will stay there until a mentor will be assigned to you."

Seraphina couldn't help but maintain a guarded demeanor, even in the serene and welcoming environment of the Rosevine Coven. Her experiences in her previous life had left her perpetually suspicious of her surroundings and the intentions of others. She knew that Aetheria, for all its beauty, could be just as treacherous as the world she left behind.

With each smile she offered and each conversation she engaged in, she wore a carefully crafted "good girl" mask. She appeared friendly, polite, and eager to learn from her mentors and fellow disciples. However, behind that mask, her mind was always alert, analyzing every word spoken and gesture.

She knew that not everyone in the cultivation world could be trusted. Hidden motives and secret agendas were common, even among those who seemed kind and benevolent. Seraphina was determined not to let her guard down, fearing that any moment of vulnerability could be exploited by those with ill intentions.

But she still needed to show them some of her potential for acquiring better resources and connections. This was a delicate balance to maintain, but as an experienced villainess in a novel world, she had no problems.

Seraphina followed Elder Nyra as they made their way through the graceful halls of the Rosevine Coven. She couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the beauty and serenity that surrounded her. The walls were adorned with delicate vine motifs, and soft natural light filtered through stained glass windows, casting colorful patterns on the floor.

As they reached the temporary recruits' quarters, Elder Nyra gestured for them to enter. The interior was simple yet cozy, with neatly arranged beds, wooden desks, and shelves filled with books and scrolls.

You will find everything you need here during your stay," Elder Nyra said, her voice gentle.

"Thank you, Elder Nyra," Seraphina replied. "I will make the most of this opportunity and strive to improve."

Elara and Lyra nodded in agreement, their determination shining in their eyes.

Elara and Lyra walked alongside Seraphina with excited and nervous expressions. The three examinees exchanged glances, sharing a bond forged through their shared experiences during the examination.

"So, we'll be staying in the temporary recruits' quarters until we're assigned mentors," Elara said, breaking the silence. "I hope we won't have to wait too long."

Lyra nodded in agreement. "I heard it takes around 2 weeks after they pass the examination. It's a good thing we have passed already. This was my second try."

Seraphina smiled. "Yes, it's comforting to know they offer several chances. And having each other for support makes it all the better."

[A few days after settling into the temporary quarters]

During one of their quiet moments together in the courtyard, Elara gazed at the setting sun and turned to Seraphina with a thoughtful expression. "Seraphina, there's something I've been meaning to ask you. Before coming to the Rosevine Coven, did you have any experience with cultivation? You seem to have a natural talent for it."

Seraphina's heart skipped a beat, caught off guard by the unexpected question. She considered her response carefully before answering, "Well, I did have some basic knowledge, but nothing compared to what I've learned here."

Elara nodded, seemingly satisfied with the answer. "That's impressive. You've adapted so quickly to our techniques. It's like you were meant to be here."

"I guess I'm just lucky," Seraphina replied, her words laced with a hint of mystery.

In the days leading up to the mentor assignment, Seraphina kept her past hidden, wearing her "good girl" mask like a well-practiced facade. She reveled in the camaraderie she had found with Elara and Lyra, cherishing the moments of laughter and shared experiences.

As the day of the mentor assignment finally arrived, they stood together in the main hall, anticipation and excitement filling the air. Elder Nyra, who had overseen their entrance examination, stepped forward with a warm smile.

"Congratulations to all three of you for passing the entrance examination," Elder Nyra began. "You have displayed great potential and will make the Rosevine Coven proud."

She paused, her gaze meeting each of their eyes with a discerning intensity. "Now, it's time to reveal your assigned mentors."

Seraphina's heart raced as she waited to hear her mentor's name.

"Elder Nyra will be your mentor, Seraphina," the elder announced, pointing towards herself with a warm smile.

Seraphina's heart raced as she processed the information. She was assigned to one of the respected elders of the Coven, a fortunate turn of events.

Next, it was Elara's turn. The elder stepped forward again and announced, "Elder Lysandra will be your mentor, Elara."

Elara's eyes lit up with excitement and a sense of pride. Elder Lysandra was renowned for her expertise in spatial seals and was highly respected among the disciples. Elara felt honored to be under her guidance.

Finally, it was Lyra's turn. The elder looked at her and said, "Elder Aurelia will be your mentor, Lyra."

Lyra's expression remained composed, but there was a glimmer of excitement in her eyes. Elder Aurelia was known for her profound understanding of elemental cultivation, and she knew that she would learn a great deal under her mentorship.

As they left the main hall, the three friends exchanged smiles of encouragement and congratulations. They were thrilled to have mentors renowned in their respective fields.
