Chapter 2: Goblin trouble

My eyes gaze around my surroundings while I keep my head still.

"Come out. Stop hiding because I hate rats."

I look around some more, when suddenly I hear a voice in your mind.

It's Silvia speaking to me.

"I'm not hiding. In fact, I'm actually quite close to you right now."

She spoke in an amused tone, as if trying to tease me a bit for not noticing her yet.

"Oh, Silvia? So, is this permanent? Will you be able to communicate with me telepathically from anywhere?"

Silvia giggled, and replied, "Yes, it does feel like it's permanent."

"And, yes, I'll be able to communicate with you through this connection."

She then sounded very pleased with herself.

"You could say it's sort of like our own connection for our thoughts. Very intimate!"

"Indeed, it's very intimate."

Silvia laughed a bit at my comment.

She then says, "So, what will you do now? I know I will be spending the rest of my life in the room full of ancient knowledge, but what of you? Are you going to search for a way to get rid of that demon curse?"

"That's not my main concern at the moment. I will need to get stronger and take care of some goblins that have been causing trouble to my village."

Silvia nodded, seemingly impressed.

She then said, "That is quite understandable. Taking care of the goblins that are tormenting you and your friends should definitely be one of your main priorities."

She then nods again. "But once you finally do get stronger and help your village, what will you do after that?"

"Get even stronger. What else would I do?"

Silvia let out a soft giggle.

She then spoke, "Right. That's very... ambitious, I suppose."

"So, how do you plan on getting stronger?"

She then asks, "Are you going to learn the Dragon Technique?"

"Or do you plan on learning something else to strengthen yourself?"

"Hmm.. actually, I wasn't planning on learning it right now."

I begin pacing deeper into the forest, towards a certain direction.

"I'll worry about that later. Because.."

I peek behind a tree at the goblin camp.

"I have to take care of these bugs currently."

Sylvia laughed softly in my mind.

"Calling them bugs would definitely make them more enraged if they could understand us."

She then asks, "So, what is your plan concerning these goblins?"

"Just watch instead of asking a lot of questions. After all, learning by demonstration is faster than words themselves."

I grin menacingly.

I begin picking up stick branches, and pieces of wood in the forest.

Sylvia quietly giggled as she watched me prepare for the oncoming battle with the goblins.

Silvia then thought for a moment and moved her chin a little down, as a nod.

"Alright, I'll see how you take down those goblins."

"Although, it may be risky for me to just watch as you're in danger and not warn you,"

She said with a smirk, "But I'll let you tackle that challenge by yourself."

"Sure."

I continue picking up branches and wooden sticks.

Silvia watched as I prepared.

She spoke again, "I know you can do it. I have faith in your strength."

"Just be careful. Goblins are sneaky and unpredictable."

"Okay~"

- Half an hour later -

I continued to pick up wooden pieces and dumped them in different piles, in different parts of the forest.

Silvia watches as you make your preparations.

Silvia then asks, "What are you doing?" "Are you placing the wood in different places to confuse the goblins? Or are you setting up traps for them?"

I smile, "You'll see."

I continue dumping the wood.

Sylvia smiled, "Alright then."

"I guess I'll just have to wait and see."

Silvia then asks, "Are you almost done setting up those wooden pieces?"

"Nope."

I continue dumping the sticks in another one of the piles.

Silvia waited patiently as I continued dumping wood into my piles.

Silvia then said, "Why so much wood?"

She chuckled and added, "I feel like you may have an excessive amount now."

"It could be, or maybe couldn't?"

I craft a curved wooden stick and wrap a string around it.

Silvia smiles, "That's true..."

Her smile suddenly turns to one of concern.

"Wait, what are you doing with that stick?"

She then asks, "Are you trying to create a makeshift bow and arrow?"

"Spot on~"

I finished making the bow and finish carving the wooden arrow.

I tested out the bow without the arrow and it felt fine.

She was impressed.

She stated, "That was fast. And, the bow looks like it was well made."

Silvia then smiled, "I also like your weapon choice."

But soon after, told another fact, "But, what about armor? Goblins aren't known for being light hitters, they like to make heavy strikes."

"Although, I suppose your bow may be able to one-shot them."

Silvia sighed and wished me, "Good luck with fighting the goblins."

"Thanks~.."

"I'm ready now."

I smirk.

Silvia revealed a nod, "Best of luck, my dear."

"If you survive this, let me know. Although I'm not sure that will be a problem for you."

Her lips reflected my grin as she talked, "Remember, goblins may have good strength. But their brains aren't the best."

Silvia then waited, eagerly wanting to see how I plan on taking out those goblins.

I shoot an arrow towards the fire at the top of the village.

But the arrow simply goes through the fire and goes elsewhere in the forest.

As the arrow misses its target, Silvia feels the need to mention, "Be careful with your shots, my dear. You may accidentally hit something important."

Silvia then asks, "Or, perhaps you're just trying to distract them right now?"

She smiled.

Silvia then laughed in my mind, "So, let's see how you take those goblins on."

"That wasn't a mistake, though.."

"What do you mean-", she replied before being cut off by something louder.

Boom!

An explosion was created inside of one of the camp's tents.

Kreee!

Goblins panicked and swarmed around the place.

"Now.."

I light a lighter and drop it on one of the piles of sticks.

"It wasn't only wood that I put, you know.."

The fire quickly travelled around the sticks, creating a fire circle, completely surrounding the village.

"I also put some oil in."

Silvia's eyes widened as I set the goblins on fire.

Her mouth finally moved, "Good one... Now the goblins are surrounded by fire. This is going to go a lot easier than I thought."

Silvia chuckles a bit as she watches.

She then asks, "Do you plan on using your bow to finish them off?"

"I don't need to show myself. They are panicking so.."

I took one of the wooden sticks that I carved out to make it sharp, and threw it like a javelin towards a goblin's head. Killing it off.

[Your speed has increased by 1]

Silvia was impressed.

"Wow! That was perfect. Not only did you kill one, but you even did it without revealing your position."

Silvia then chuckled softly and continued to watch me kill off the goblins.

"This isn't turning out half bad. I thought you were going to get yourself killed, and now look at you."

"Keep it going, my dear."

"Thanks, my love~"

I continue running to different positions and throw the sharpened wooden sticks at the goblins.

Silvia was very pleased and watched you like a proud partner, as a way to tease me back.

"This is great, my love! You're using their surroundings to your advantage."

Silvia chuckled a little, "I feel a little bad for them, though."

"But I know they would've killed you if they got the chance, so I don't feel too bad."

"Yep."

Blood splattered all over the camp until there was only the chief and two of his guards left.

I reveal my location and walk out towards the chief and his subordinates.

"Hey~ how are you doing today?"

The remaining goblins all looked up, seemingly terrified as I walked out in front of them.

Silvia laughs, "They aren't looking so smart now, are they?"

The goblin chief looked at me, shocked that this small human is here in front of him so confidently.

The goblin chief then says, "What do you want? This is our territory!"

Silvia then sighs and whispers to you, "I think he needs some sense knocked into him."

"Territory? I don't think so."

My face tensed in anger as I smiled, widening my eyes intimidatingly.

"Huuu.. both of you subordinates.. just.."

"Come at me.", My gaze pierced their hearts.

The goblin chief scoffed at me for a moment.

Silvia then said to me, "Oh my... I knew you had some guts, but damn."

Despite speaking into my head, she whispered, "Just don't get yourself killed with your boldness."

The smaller goblins then look at each other, and then one starts walking towards me.

Silvia then said, "Oh... I think that one is listening to you."

The smaller goblin ran straight at me.

I ducked and slit the two subordinates ankles at the same time.

For the second time, the elf was impressed.

She whispered into my mind, "Well fought. You have impressed me yet again, my dear."

Silvia then adds, "Just be careful with the bigger one. He's not going to be as easy."

The bigger goblin looked at me with anger as he gets ready to strike.

Silvia whispers, "Try to avoid getting hit by him. I can't risk you coming home injured."

"Silvia, just trust me for once. You, yourself, should know how strong I was in our past lives. Even if you only remember minimal details."

I act a little offended before running at my fastest pace towards the chief.

Sylvia laughs and says, "Alright, my love."

Silvia then whispers, "I do know you have potential. But, you are far from invincible. You still need to think carefully about this."

Silvia then adds, "But, I trust your capabilities. Just don't be reckless."

The bigger goblin stroke at me with his sword.

Silvia nervously watched my battle, ready to assist if needed.

'Shit..'

I parry the attack but feel the backlash.

"Kuuh.."

I skid back before throwing my remaining number of sharpened wooden sticks at him as a distraction.

Though, he sliced them, he checked his surroundings, but didn't see me.

As he did that, I jumped up behind him and infused mana and all my brute strength before slicing the nape of its neck.

[Your stamina has increased by 1]

Silvia can barely hold in her excitement.

Silvia then whispers, "Oh my... You just... Oh my... Wow..."

She then says, "That was incredible, my love."

"You just took him out with no problem. And, he was so confident that he was going to kill you."

"Just be careful. There are still more goblins in the camp."

"Yeah, yeah. Stop commenting on every move..", I felt exhausted from her chatter instead of the actual battle.

[Your agility has increased by 1]

[Your defense has increased by 1] [Achievement: Goblin Slayer unlocked!]

"Well, at least I completed the job."

I look at the place that is in ruins and every goblin that has been killed.

Sylvia continues whispering, "Hey! I'll say what I want, you know. You are my love, so don't give me too much sass."

Silvia then laughs, "Oh yes. Of course. You've definitely completed this job."

Silvia pauses for a moment.

"Although, now you have to deal with the aftermath."

Silvia laughed loudly.

"But, I still am impressed with your progress."

"There is no aftermath."

I got up and looted the chiefs necklace.

[You have obtained 'Goblin Chief's Necklace(D)']

"Not bad. There are ranks going from F till A, then S which is the best. D is really good of a rank."

Silvia looked astounded at my reward from such a small camp.

The white-haired girl observed me through my mind as I took the necklace from the goblin.

She commented, "Ooooh! You took quite the prize, my dear. And, even a D rank isn't too bad either!"

"Are you planning on looting any more goblins?"

"Nope. That will only be a waste of time.."

"That's unless.. [System], loot the maximum available amount of goblins you can and transfer it into my [inventory]."

"Command confirmed." The system stated. "Maximum available looting of goblins completed. Goblins have been looted."

[Looted: '40 Goblin Weapons' + '45 Goblin Big tooths']

"Well, that was nice of the system to do that for you. I'm sure you would've been done looting them before you knew it.", Silvia smiled at the use of the system—which was common, but not to this degree,

Especially considering the fact that I was still a beginner.

"Looks like we are all done here. Shall we go? I'm getting hungry?"

Her stomach rumbled.

"I thought you can't feel hungry when you're in the ancient library?", I say with suspicion and tease her.

Sylvia laughed and then replied, "Very funny, my dear. You're right, I have no physical body and therefore cannot eat or drink."

"However, in the library I am capable of experiencing almost everything. Yes, including the feeling of hunger."

"What did you have in mind to eat?", she asked while her mouth watered.

"Hmm.. maybe some regular bread and vegetable soup made by my friend's mother."

"Sounds delicious!"

Silvia added on, "Shall we go then? I'm hungry."

"Is your friend's mother a good cook? Because, I'm curious how it'll taste?"

"Oh, she sure is."

We arrived in the village, well, to be exact, I arrived in the village while Silvia's mind which was linked to my body was also here.

Sylvia looked at the village with excitement, "This is a nice place. The residents look friendly and the village itself has a welcoming air to it."

"Is your friend's mother going to be making this dinner for just us? Or are we going to be joined by your family?"

"Oh.. my family.."

I look with a slightly sad look.

"Silvia, have you forgotten? You know that my family has always been dead, even in our past lives, since we both regressed together."

Sylvia paused for a moment, "Yes, you are right. I did know that, my dear. I completely forgot."

'How did she forget..? Is there something preventing her from remembering certain things or is her memory going bad..?'

She woke me up from my thoughts, "So, is this dinner going to be only us?"

"Well, it's technically me since they won't be able to see or sense you. But yes, I guess it's just us."

Sylvia laughs slightly

"Very true. Although, that just means we get to enjoy this dinner all by ourselves. I quite enjoy getting privacy so I can enjoy food with good company."
