Chapter 6: Resolve

Rai's mind was befuddled and perplexed. "This isn't fair; I didn't even know we could use the Clone Technique."

"Not that I even know how to do it, but this teaches me something. The shinobi world is unforgiving, and underestimating opponents is a guaranteed death wish," Rai contemplated.

While still on the ground, Rai picked himself up, brushed the dust off his clothes, and returned to the side of the ring. Uchiha and Hyuga Clan trainees occasionally glanced at him.

One of the civilian kids questioned Sensei Kyasychi, "Why are the clan children so much stronger?"

Kyasychi explained, "They've been training practically since birth, honing their skills through sparring. That's the gap between you and them."

"Now, I will teach you all the academy's taijutsu style. I want you all to practice this diligently." I quickly learned how to fight for real and unlearned some thing pretty quickly my progress was kind of fast and steady.

The taijutsu sessions continued, and most of the civilians ended up losing. The session marked the end of that day at the academy. Many civilians realized that passing the entrance exam was just a part of becoming a shinobi. Some felt defeated, while others found their resolve deepening.

At a training ground far from the Aburame clan's territory -

Rai practiced integrating the academy's taijutsu with his personalized style. He could discern the difference; his taijutsu had officially reached a genin level. He took pride in his chakra control, now at a mid-rank genin level. This allowed him to walk up trees, and he planned to attempt water walking when he found the time. But for now, he had the library on his agenda.

At the library -

Rai selected books on chakra theories. He aimed to explore chakra strings, a versatile technique with myriad applications. Learning the Shadow Clone Technique and obtaining chakra testing paper also made it to his list.

In the Hokage's office -

"Do you have any reports today?" the Third Hokage inquired.

"Yes, Lord Hokage. Everyone's results were largely as expected, but there's one civilian who stood out," the speaker responded.

"Who?" Lord Third Hokage questioned.

"His name is Tasumi Rai; he's only six years old."

"Isn't he a bit young for the academy?" Lord Third asked.

"Yes, but he's shown remarkable physical prowess, mental strength, and potential."

The Third Hokage inquired further, "Tell me more."

"He displayed impressive taijutsu skills against Uchiha Haru. Uchiha Haru is a moderate talent, but for Tasumi Rai to put up such a fight is something special."

"Interesting. Kyasychi, keep me updated on his progress and pay closer attention to Tasumi Rai."

"Yes, Lord Third."

Back at the academy office -

Just as Rai was about to knock on the door, Sensei Kyasychi opened it. "Hey, Sensei, how's it going?"

"Fine. How about you, Rai?"

"I'm doing great, Sensei."

"Well, what brings you here, Rai?" Kyasychi inquired.

"Um... Sensei, can I ask you something?" Rai hesitated.

"Of course, Rai. What is it?"

"Could I borrow some chakra testing paper?" Rai looked at Kyasychi earnestly.

Kyasychi appeared surprised. "Is that all? You had me worried for a moment. Well, sure, Rai. I have some extra." He promptly retrieved one from his back pocket.

"Well, Rai, how do you know about chakra testing papers?"

"Um... Well, Sensei, I read about them in the library."

"Alright, now that you know what they are, let me demonstrate how to use them."

"Thank you, Kyasychi Sensei," Rai expressed his gratitude with a passionate bow.

"Alright, alright. Let's get started," Kyasychi agreed. "This is how you use chakra testing paper. Channel chakra into the paper; there are five chakra natures: fire, water, wind, earth, and lightning."

"These will produce different reactions based on the user's chakra nature. Some might have one or multiple reactions. Here are the types of reactions for each nature."

"Fire: The paper will catch fire and turn to ash."

"Wind: The paper will split in half."

"Lightning: The paper will wrinkle."

"Earth: The paper will turn to dirt and crumble away."

"Water: The paper will become damp."

"Now, let me demonstrate." Kyasychi channeled his chakra into the paper, causing it to catch fire and turn to ash.

"Now, Rai, test yours." Rai channeled his chakra into the paper, resulting in it wrinkling.

As he observed this, Rai mused to himself, "Lightning, huh."
