Chapter 18: Ouroboros first mission

Following the registration of our party, We visited the quest board. We opted to seek a C-level job because our party was D-rank. There were several work opportunities available. "I personally would prefer a monster extermination quest," I say.

"How about the rest of you?" Leo said, "That sounds good." Pit and Hammer concurred, as did Sylphiette. Leo goes on to remark, "Now that we're all in an agreement, let's find a monster extermination quest." Pit says,I found one; they want us to help with a monster extermination." "What kind of monster would we be fighting?" Hammer wonders. Pit responded with "Assault dogs." "Sounds easy enough," Leo said, "but where would we have to go?" "The village is called Buena," Pit said.

"Absolutely not!" both Leo and I exclaim. Our powerful refusal has taken Hammer and Pit back. "What are your thoughts?" Hammer asks Sylphiettet. "I'd rather not go back there," Sylphiette admits. He replies, "Well, we will just have to find a different one." Hammer goes on to remark, "It sounds like you three have a history with that village." "I do," I declare. We're still looking for a mission. It took an hour to locate one that everyone agreed on.

Our mission was to assist a rancher who had an assault dog infestation. They appear to have been pursuing the rancher's animals and, strangely enough, devouring his cabbage. It will take us two days to walk to get there. So, after registering our mission, we left the guild. Before we leave the city, we head to the store to get some supplies for our job. Because I had more than enough money, I offered to pay for the supplies. I go shopping for dry food, fruits, and meat for six days. After that, we leave the city and travel to our destination, the ranch.

After we exited the city gates, Leo said, "Can you use your demon eye to make sure we are not ambushed?" He responded, "I can. What distance do you want me scanning?" Leo scratches his chin in the same manner as Paul. I'm not going to inform him because I'm worried he'll become furious. I keep catching Sylphiette staring at me, then at Leo, then back to me with a confused expression on her face. "How about one mile?" Leo eventually suggested. I say it with a nod of my head. "I can do that, but that would mean I would not have enough for night watch."

Leo goes on to state, "That is a price I am willing to pay if everyone agrees." We all nod in agreement and proceed on our way. "What is the name of our client?" I inquired about Hammer. "His name is Dan, and he runs the largest ranch in this region," I respond. "Is that so." I ask.

"Why do you keep staring at me?" Leo asks Sylphiette after roughly an hour of strolling. Sylphiette adds uncomfortably, "I'm sorry I made you uncomfortable." Leo responds, "I'm not mad; I'm just curious." "It's just that you and Ryan look similar," Sylphiette remarks.

Hammer speaks up. "I have wondered that myself." Pit responds, "I wanted to ask you guys the same thing, but I didn't want to pry." "Do you mind if I tell them?" I asked Leo. "I don't care," Leo adds, and with his consent, I explain, "I discovered that Leo here is my half brother." The remainder of the group was taken aback. Pit and Hammer, on the other hand, simply nodded and continued going. According to Sylphiette, "it must have been odd to find out that you had another brother." I reply, "Not really, I probably have a lot more than you realize."

We decide to set up camp after another five hours. I spent the remainder of my magic building an earth cottage. Sylphiette's power provides us with water. Pit grabs firewood since the nights are getting colder. In the hut, Hammer and Leo arranged the sleeping bags.

We finished our setup around nightfall.

We're sitting around the hearth inside the hut, eating dried meat for dinner. I decided to start up a conversation while we were eating. "So why did you guys want to be adventurous?"

Leo says "i wanted to be an adventurer because it seemed like fun and I like the freedom it gives you." Leo continues "its my dream to become a famous adventurer and i wanted to help mom out." Pit speaks up "I want to explore the world and meet all sorts of people and try all kinds of food." Hammer says " well I guess it's my turn now" he continues "I want to have as much fun as I can. And when i am done I will take over job." I say "That sounds good. I guess I will go next."

"I wanted to be on an adventure because I enjoy helping people," I explain. It appeals to me since there is always something to do." After I finished, I turned to Sylphiette and said, "It's your turn." Sylphiette appeared to be nervous. I notice her fiddling with her hands, something she does when she feels uncomfortable. With everybody gazing at her, she looks at me, her eyes pleading for assistance. All I say is,It's up to you if you want to share; use your own words." "I first wanted to become an adventurer because it seemed cool, and Ryan was interested, so I thought I would try it," Sylphiette says.

"Now," Sylphiette says, "I'm working as an adventurer to help my dad and mom." We all nodded and proceeded to eat quietly. After some time has passed, Hammer inquires, "Ryan, how do you and Sylphiette know each other? " If that isn't too much to ask," "No worries," I said. We grew up in the same village and are childhood buddies." Hammer responds, "I see." We all completed our meals and discussed who would be the first to watch. Leo was scheduled to be the first on Wach, followed by Hammer, Pit, and Sylphiette. I wouldn't be on watch since I'd be on guard during the day.

So it was time for us to retire for the night. Sylphiette chose to place herself close to me. We all enjoyed a good night's sleep. We ate breakfast and packed things in the morning. I used earth magic to demolish my earth hut, and we continued on our journey. We spent the day traveling towards our destination and getting to know one another better. We make camp again after roughly 8 hours of traveling and do the same things that we did the previous night.

The next day, we arrive at the ranch, where we are met by an older guy with a strange accent who asks, "What can I help you with, Young INS?" We show him that we are the ones that took his quest, and his face bursts into a tremendous smile. "Praise the Cabbage, those damned beasts won't leave my cattle alone," he smacked his fist on his knee. Worse, they're eating my cabbages." When he mentioned the cabbages, he was overcome with emotion.

We start questioning him about the job. like how many creatures to expect and how to assist him in building up some basic defenses. There are thirty assault dogs, according to reports. Earl's name was revealed to us. Earl would not stop talking about his cabbages. We also discovered that the creature only strikes at night. As we prepare for the monster's arrival at night, I noticed a huge wagon loaded with cabbages. I suggested to Earl that he should relocate them.

I was surprised to see so many attack dogs. This is often a C-level job in this field. But that's neither here nor there. Night arrives quickly and with a wicked eye. I notice them approaching and cry, "Look, live, here they come!" We had formed our combat formation. Earl was in the barn with his animals, armed with a pitchfork. Leo and I are in the lead. Hammer was behind us, and near the barn were Pit and Sylphiette. As the creature approaches, we all assume fighting positions.

Then we saw them approaching us, and when they were near enough, Leo and I unleashed our attack. My blade smoothly slices through the first creature. But there was more coming at me. With each swing of my blade, I slay one. Leo appears to be struggling, but he is getting by. The beast soon began to attempt to avoid me. Then I hear Sylphiette declare her assault. I also hear Hammer dispatching them and Pits shouting for the ones that get past Hammer.

We were all fatigued by the end of the three-hour struggle. Despite Earl's yelling, "My cabbages are destroyed!" I paused what I was doing to investigate the issue. It looks like a wayward spell destroyed the wagon with the cabbages. None of the cabbages survived. Earl was balling his eyes out next to the smashed cabbages. We ignored his tears and kept harvesting all the creatures.

following another 2 hours of harvesting. After that, we gathered all of the corpses and set them on fire. After that, I had a difficult time convincing Earl to give us our tag, which confirms we accomplished the task, but he ultimately does. As a result, we return to Roa. The return trip was mostly uneventful. When we returned, I saw Rudy with Eris—I believe her name was Ghislaine. I said, "I'm going to head out because I don't need the money," to which Leo replied, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am certain," I answer with a smile.

Rudy approached us with Eris and Ghislaine and said, "Sylphiette, what are you doing here?" He glances at me and her, perplexed. I soon brought him up to speed on what had occurred to Sylphiette. "Is this your brother?" Leo asks, proudly nodding, "Yes, he is." Eris enters the discussion, asking, "So what are you guys doing?" She insisted. So I told him, "We just got back from a quest." She says, "Wait, you guys are adventurers. I am so jealous. I want to go on a quest!" "Perhaps ask your father," I say. "I will do that right now!" declares Eris. Let's get started, Rudy!"

Eris then begin to drag him away. I looked at my party and bid them good bye. Sylphiette gives me a hug and I hug her back. After I was done I head back to the dojo with them returning in the tag Even if I am not there I will still get credit. And I make the trip home.
