Chapter 4: CH2: Resolve
[A week later, Yangtze Inn]
Morning light shines through the wooden windows. A few moments later, the windows and doors were gently opened by the inn staffs signaling the start of the business hours of the inn.
I sat in front of a vanity, staring at what supposed to be my reflection.
Well, I look alright, but I was still much more attractive in my former body. But this time, I can't tell if I'm a man or a woman...
It's quite hard to believe that I'm not just a normal person and more than that, I'm in someone else's body.
Just who could this person really be?
Isn't it unfair that I know nothing of my new identity?
I sighed, picking up a hairbrush. My hair is atrociously long, I mean this body's hair is.
Just where is that guy when I need him to do something for me? He probably dragged my original body with him to the market district again...

I stood up from the seat of the vanity and sat near the window. Immediately, I was spotted by the ladies who were always gossiping in front this inn, there is a tea house in front of this inn and on its terrace are wooden antique tea tables. They look like a regular of the place. They waved at me and as usual, called me to come join them. These long tongued women, how did they even know my name? Was it Qi Fei's doing?
But why should I go?
Are they going to give me money like the system?
They don't look ... wealthy. They only ordered one cup of tea each and only drinks it after they sat in that place for almost whole day and are going to leave. It's not like the tea is served with extremely hot temperature for them to have to wait for it the whole morning and afternoon...
I sighed as I close the window of our room. I paced around the room before settling in the edge of the bed. Why do I care about such trivial thing? I shouldn't pick up Qi Fei's behaviour.
They're very loud too. Can't I issue a noise complaint in this era?

I took several deep breaths and as I do, I was interrupted by the system's voice.
The system sounds like that robotic female Google voice. It hurts my ears but then I think it would be awkward if it suddenly becomes all silent. I wish I could turn off the sfx though...

Oh, it's for that bloodline feature. Is it some sort of power up? A permanent buff? The system didn't provide any explanation about it. A permanent buff would be good so I hope that's what it is.

Well, it's convenient but probably not that very practical and not the best decision I made, but I'll take it back later anyway.

I shrugged as I proceeded to scan through the manuscript's content, looking for any clues.

He and his posh villain laugh. Why did the author write his character that way? But with his character, he's probably doing it on purpose.
Anyway, about the manuscript. It does contain little information about the Moon Emperor, but it's only a sentence worth long.
It reads, "According to the studies of the infamous Old Diviner and scholars, after the confrontation, the Moon Emperor was killed, his bloodline root was stolen while his golden core was rumored to be missing."
His bloodline root was stolen? Could it be why I "inherited" his bloodline? Did this body steal it? But that's ridiculous.
What? Did it fell in front of him, and he ate it or something?
That doesn't make sense...
But then everything is a bullshit in this game...
So did someone place it inside this body somehow? Who would?
How come my character feels more like a mystery than the protagonist? But then, I haven't really met the protagonist and I don't even know when and where I would find that character, so I guess we're at equal footing.
The only thing I know about that character is that his goal is most likely to take revenge or something like that, the game's title gave it away.
But I wonder why? Did the villain stole something from him? Did his family die in the villain's hands? Did the villain steal or killed his lover? Or is he just bored and thinks that those with that label are to be killed?
Protagonists are unreasonable, huh?
If the protagonist turns out to be the latter then I suppose I can consider becoming the villain.
That character is just unlucky that they were written that way.
But what if I can control the characters of this game? But before that, I should take care of the system first.
Hmm, how do I break it...
How about in-game commands? There is a chatbox below the screen for some reason, it's barely visible though, but I can't use it for some reason. That's an interesting choice or maybe was it left by accident? It doesn't look anything like the rest of the game screen, so it's probably placed by mistake? But that's odd. A scratched off idea? Another Easter egg perhaps? Or...is it a part of a developer's console?
It wouldn't hurt to have another card under my sleeves.

"Surely there's nothing bad at being greedy." I whispered in the air as I stood in front of the vanity once more.

Says all those villain characters...
But as much as I want to take hold of that power as soon as possible, I need to lie low for a while as it seems I had caught someone's eye, and it looks like I have to fulfill some requirements to obtain access to the developer's console. Hopefully, my guess about it being a part of the developer's console is right though.
And as for that pest that is eyeing me, I need to find a way to completely hide my strength. Since the Omniscient Insight were not able to identify that person's identity completely, I assume that it is someone I cannot dare to offend yet, and maybe it would be possible to make use of that pest somehow?
That would be nice...
It is better to be cautious before I could have everything in my hands though. In the meantime I should become more stronger, I shall not be too complacent. I won't be able to protect myself and fight for myself, if I'm so weak.
I would probably be hated if I was like this, greedy, back in the real world, aren't I? Too bad I'm in a game. I don't think it matters.
If the transcendent beings won't look favorably at me then, I'll take it on my hands to force the favor be upon me instead.
I can't be too nice and let just anyone to trample on me in this life, even if this is just a dream.
