Chapter 25: CH16: Upgrades
[Zhang Xi Yin's Narrative]
I quietly sat in the corner watching the three talking among themselves, it would probably be best if I do something productive instead. I did have been wanting to check if there's anything else I can now use in the system now that I have arrived in this higher realm, I hope that there are more free stuffs...
But then, I might accidentally raise my cultivation level too high and these guys would not certainly shrug it off. Perhaps I should stay in for a month at least?
I stood up and interrupted the three, it's quite a sight to see Lord Māo be so talkative, otherwise I would really believe that he's afraid to communicate.
Yan Chao Xiang turned his head to my direction so did Lord Māo, Lady Cui seemed busy writing something on the scroll.
Yan Chao Xiang spoke to me with a smile, "Can we do something for you, dear?"
I took a moment before speaking, "I'd like to enter a secluded cultivation before you push me to that competition, we all know that I would most likely be the weakest among all the participants for such a grand event. And on top of that, we are not certain that they would not forbid me to use my realm traveling technique, so let me use a separate room to cultivate."
Lord Māo touch his chin seemingly to be pondering my request, while Yan Chao Xiang stared at me with a grin.
Seriously, what's up with this guy?
Yan Chao Xiang took a step closer, a floating scroll appeared right in front of my face. It looks like a map of this realm, some pavilions are highlighted, he pointed at each of them and happily spoke.
His eyes glued to the scroll as he taps one of the pavilions that are named, Wáng Luó Pavilion and one that is called, Huang Chen Pavilion. As if the scroll was some sort of advance Baidu Maps, the image transformed into the interior of one of the Huang Chen Pavilion.
He spoke, his voice sounded quite giddy, "Do you see these? These are all the inn's that I own, you may come to any of these inns when you are on your travels, don't fret, I shall give you a special price!"
I hope that his "special price" is not adding more to its original price...
He took another step closer to me and whispered, "Also, you may request from Lord Māo to be admitted in one of my inns even while you are still under his watch. You see, we have some sort of partnership, so he would certainly agree, no matter what, and it won't always be him to look after you."
Huh, so this guy really have a lot of sources. Lord Māo must have also been using their partnership as a way to gather information and money too, that's quite smart.
After a while, a floating cloth binding wrapped the face of Yan Chao Xiang, stopping him from talking.
Lord Māo spoke, "Stop trying to drag another body in your bed, will you, Chao Xiang..., you truly are a headache sometimes, wait no, most of the time..."
Without looking at me, he waved his hand in the air, a manuscript appeared which he handed to me with his cloth binding.
He spoke, "You are free to decide on that part, but he is wrong to say that I won't be watching you always. One more thing, take this, it should help you to reconstruct that mask, which you have been wearing. It will not be able to convince the people of this realm any longer."
This guy can read minds, can't he? But this is great, I won't have to rely on the system for the mask.
After another long banter between the two, I decided to stay in an inn run by Yan Chao Xiang, it turned out to be the same pavilion where we currently are, a branch named Huang Chen Pavilion. So this is what Lord Māo meant by this guy being wrong about monitoring me. The room earlier must have been Lord Māo's private quarters which he turned into some sort of office, his place looked as if it is an old library from the ancient times, the shelves are neatly arranged, but the scrolls around his table was quite messy for my liking.
I sat in the edge of my bed after the servants of the inn had finished setting up everything in my own room, the windows are wide open, giving me a great view of the afternoon sky.
Another day is going to end soon, and soon, Yīhán would be reborn with an entirely different appearance. I would no longer be reminded of my life back in earth. It wasn't the worst, but being in constant run just to pay for all the debts and making sure that I could eat a meal every day was tiresome. After the death of my grandparents, I was left alone and had to pay for the debts they had from loan sharks, they would have been able to live a long and good life if mother and father did not rob their savings from their bank account. I felt guilty, but despite what my parents did to them, they still chose to raise me till their death. I hope their graves would remain at peace.
This is why I wanted to look after Yīhán as if he is my brother, that appearance that I used to have reminded me of the times I was happily living with my grandparents.
Well, no use in being so solemn, I exist in a different reality now. I should live a different life.
The system screen appeared in front of my face, and almost immediately, several notifications had cluttered the screen.

Oh? Pet system? Maybe that would be useful soon, but it seems I have to capture a wild beast first. Since Qi Fei won't be able to stay beside me for a while, I guess a beast companion would be nice. I wonder if Yīhán would be counted as a... Ah, wait, no. Let's not think like that.
The screen changed into the Skill Window, unlike before there is now an option to raise the level of the skills.

But as expected of the system, all upgrades are so expensive, but the price is lower than the points I had to give up to obtain the skills. Currently, I have about 6 billion system points racked up from all the side quests on my first week, the reason why I barely had anything is because the system only kept rewarding me with system points on the first week.
The system displayed more details about the upgrades, it seems that I can actually keep upgrading pass the next level, but not more than the level cap, if I want to raise the level cap, I need to accomplish all requirements.
Without taking any longer, I raised all the levels up to the current maximum cap.

Mx_Third Hello this is Third, I had been sick again and wasn't really planning to update this book for this weekend, but lying down bored me, so I tried writing what I can when there is no one watching me. The draft wasn't with me, I accidentally switched it with a notebook of my friend so this chapter is based on what I could remember, but this shouldn't affect the course of events of the story! I hope this chapter somehow introduced Zhang Xi Yin and the other new characters better, thank you for reading!
