Chapter 36: Future is Green
The marketplace in Vitium was quite busy and bustling with nobles . The air was filled with sounds of merchants shouting to attract customers and nobles bargaining for desired items .
As the awakening ceremony ended , wards from noble houses, had come to shop for enchanted weapons , armor, apparels , storage beads , pills, and other items for their upcoming journey to the training temples . Business was thriving and would stay the same for next two weeks until all the awakened adolescents departed for their training.
Kei, now dressed in his teal colored apparel and with a brown dyed hair wandered through the marketplace observing the nobles and merchants.
The merchants selling the items were also nobles from House Ziglai , House Droqden and House Dittaseni , the three houses which formed the merchant's guild . All three houses had put out their new and fresh stock for display ,competing with each other, hoping to profit the most in this fortnight long business bonanza .
Kei came to a halt before a merchant shop. This shop also was a monolithic dome shaped three storied building ,similar to the ones present on the road to Redweed village but bigger in size. Kei entered the shop without any hesitation and airing an aura of confidence . It was a female apparel shop .
As soon as he entered, Kei's ears were greeted with a loud discordant mixture of shouts, yells, shrieks, and hassles of adolescent female rakshasa's. The cacophony inside this apparel shop was even louder than the collective noise in the whole marketplace, Kei thought .
The salesgirls and shop merchants were all too busy, handling these demanding adolescent female nobles, to pay Kei any notice. Also , apart from the two male merchants in the shop , Kei was the only male customer present in this female apparel shop, so he was not given any attention.
Kei looked and wandered around the shop ,visiting each floor ,and observing the female apparels of different colors. After wandering for about ten minutes or so, he stopped on the second floor and looked around.
There were only female customers present on this floor and no salesgirls or merchants . They had all gone downstairs on the lower floors busy in handling and packing apparels of the females who had chosen their apparels and submitted them for payment. The shop was well staffed but today the customers were much more than any normal business day, so all hands were on deck .
Kei pretending to look at garbs observed and listened to the adolescent female nobles bickering , arguing, chattering, and discussing among themselves topics like which apparel to pick, how were they looking in such and such apparel , how many apparels should they buy, were the apparels matching their new skin color obtained after awakening and so on .
Kei , hearing their banter, mentally confirmed his plan and could not help smirking . He picked up two green colored combat apparels and as if looking through other wardrobes seriously , came before a small group of female rakshasa nobles.
" Young ladies ,can you help with me something ?" Kei asked throwing the question at the giggle .
The female nobles all turned towards him , surprised to see a male noble shopping for female apparels . Some of these female nobles thought that Kei was a merchant of this shop. Two of them asked "What ?"
Kei, with a worried look on his face, said, "I am looking for green colored apparels for my sister , I have found two but need at least four dozen more , I checked the lower floors but could not find any. Have you seen any more apparels like these ?" Kei held up the two green apparels in his hand .
The females looked at the apparels that Kei was holding , they were expensive like all the other apparels in the shop , nothing else was more unique among them .
"No, we have not " a female from the group replied .
"There may be ten or so apparels like these on the first floor, I think I have seen them, you can check there" another said .
" Are they all green ? " Kei asked the female .
" Uh, I don't remember exactly , but all were not green, but looked exactly like the apparel in your hands" that female rakshasa replied .
"No, I need apparels in green color only , others will not do , however , thank you for telling me . I think I will have to go home with these two only ." Kei sighed .
Seeing him sigh, picked the curiosity of the female noble group and one of them again asked " What's so special about green apparels , is green your sister's favorite color ?" "Oh no, her favorite color is white just like her skin . Green is …" Kei stopped talking .
He then pretended to look around, as if to see if anyone was hearing him and then hunched forward and said in a hushed tone, as if he was telling a great secret ,
" Green is the favorite color of the royal prince . I should not be telling you this but since you young ladies helped me, I shall share a secret . My elder brother works as a guard in the castle of the Rukhs (royals), and he said that the royal prince is also going to one of the training temples this year , disguised as a Ramiz (nobility) .
My brother could not find out which training temple, but he said that the prince possesses three affinities , so he may be attending three temples . My brother also said that the prince is an idealist , he has vowed to marry whoever steals his heart even if female is a noble or commoner .
I am buying these green apparels for my sister, who is also attending Aquan temple this year, in the hope that she catches the eye of the royal prince . The royal prince , I heard , is extremely fond of green color, he even wears green colored armor and apparels . "
Having said this barefaced lie Kei looked around the faces of the female nobles of the group. If not for his innate ability to maintain a poker face , he would have bursted out laughing.
