Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Five Great Families
After returning home Nan'Ke felt that higher powers were playing tricks on him. He was trapped at home believing someone was after him and after figuring out no was paying attention to him he left home for a while and now someone is paying attention to him. 'Damn, I don't even know who that person was but it seems like he plans to know me. The flower brings bees'.
(A/N: Hua means flower in the 'long language')
'Now that I have access to the police server I should do some digging, by the looks of it he seem to be someone of status the way he introduced himself to Xiang Hua. Evidently she seem to be another one of high status considering how he was more courteous in the form of ass-kissing rather than being polite as equals.' He concurred based on the little interaction he had between them but that was of little help to him now as he sure he won't be seeing Xiang Hua again or anytime soon as she lives in the Capital and he lives here in Mu City.
'Okay let's see if we can find information on the one called Mu Yen' he said while powering on his computer to begin a search. All he had to go on was his name and the license plate number of the car he was in when he was following Nan'Ke.
While Nan'Ke was doing his search, the subject of said search was back at home conversing with his older brother conveying what had transpired earlier on. His voice was stern but unwilling at the same time as he didn't like being treated as his brothers' gopher. "I did meet her at the mall like you said I would, but she was there with another man" Mu Yen said. He then continued "It seems like they knew each other and he even said that he hope her wishes came through. I asked him who he was but he didn't seem to know me and replied like he was better than me saying 'that I don't need to know'. I even followed him but lost him at the park" he finished his report with a very agitated tone and aggrieved face as he wasn't fond of being treated as a lackey of his brother instead of the second young master of the Mu family, let alone being blown off by some unknown person.
"How stupid of you" the older brother spoke, "what's that supposed to mean brother?" replied Mu Yen. "You don't know who he is yet you felt he was at a status higher than you and then you go and follow him. Like are you really that daft, and to make matters worse he even discovered that you were following him." Angered by the fact his brother was calling him stupid his voice raised and he said "What the fuck do you mean Mu Chen?" Not calling him older brother anymore. "You lost him at the park, the park is a wide open space you wouldn't lose him unless he didn't want to be found. He might of hidden in the bushes for all we know. And now you have someone out there looking at you for what? Just because you can't get a girl to talk to you" *slap* Mu Chen raged surface as he slapped his younger brother. "Don't do anything from now on, and if you see that person again don't approach him but take a photo next time" he said before turning his back and leaving the room.
While he left Mu Yen pulled out his phone with a picture of Nan'Ke on it, 'I'm not stupid as you think my dear brother, I will show you' he thought to himself as he wanted to prove he is much more than his brothers' lackey.

Back at Nan'Ke home he was already gathering a bunch of different data form the stations server form wanted criminals, files on person of interest and even dossiers on the important people of Mu City and the prefecture as a whole, including some of its officials. 'Mu City is more constrained than I thought, or should I say the prefecture itself and Mu City to the key that binds it all. He said analyzing the data. 'From the information here it's suggest that a battle is taking place between five families that hold immense power in the prefecture. They are the Ling, Xiao, Gu, Shen and Mu families. 'It seem that boy was from the Mu family, and from the information the Mu's were the founders of Mu City.'
As he sift through the information he gathered, he also learn that the Ling clan located in Si city are involved in construction, and have projects in operation or completed across the prefecture. The Gu's are more or less involved in business but mostly act as fixers in politics. Knowing this now and what had happened before with the Deputy Mayor he inferred that Mu and Gu family are working together or at least have a connection. The Xiao family are also in politics as it's evident that the former Deputy Mayor was a member of the Xiao family, the patriarchs' nephew in fact. Seeing all the pieces falling into place like solving a puzzle Nan'Ke surmised that their is something of extreme value in Mu city for families to fight to the death over it. Continuing to go through the information his eyes landed on the last family the Shen's.
Not much is known as the police dossier was about two pages with information of the current figure head and his immediate descendants and there relative place in Mu City. Seeing the lack of information intrigued him even more now. The only thing that was of any significance in the document was a overall report of the findings on the family which said, "The Shen's are a mystery and continue to live shrouded in secrecy. However investigations suggest that are not involved in business activities or in a political sphere".
After reading the report he now had more questions than answers on the Shen's but one thing is for certain 'they have some power to be considered one of the five great families, whatever that power is it's being withheld from the public' he thought.
His focused shifted back to the Mu's and specifically Mu Yen. He decided he would go through the rest of the information another time. He first went online to search for Mu Yen and anything related to his name. Through a small algorithm he created, it went through the social media accounts of any person name Mu Yen or have a connection with that name like a tagged photo or some sort. While the algorithm was doing his thing Nan'Ke decided to hack into the Licensing and Motor Vehicle Registration Database to run the number plate of the car Mu Yen was in. 'The car is registered in the name of Mu Chen…'he paused his thought for a while trying to figure where he had come across that name. 'Ahh his older brother was named Mu Chen from the file report. So it looks like the older brother is the one in charge, or why else the car would be in his name. Is it a gift? Or did he just lend him it? I need more information'. He concluded.
*Ting*
His algorithm alarm, alerting him that the process was completed. 'It's a match, so this is 'young master Mu' he said sarcastically after seeing Mu Yen in the picture match the one he saw earlier in the day. 'Hmm, well I know his face and I damn sure he knows mine, so what is the plan? From the looks of it he seemed interested in Xiang Hua and me being there may be seen as a threat to his love life. Damn, this family doesn't play by the rules so I should expect some sort of action from him or would he involve his brother?'
Going through the various actions, problems and solutions in his mind with his innate skill [Perception] his conclusions are generally right but it not some heavenly secrets arts where everything he guesses would be proven correct but he would be in the proximity of being correct in his derived conclusion.
'Since I'm expecting action and his status and background far exceeded my own as of now, I'm guessing he would get away with whatever he does, so being on the offensive should put me in a position of not getting killed by this boy or his family'. Nan'Ke said. Usually he would be terrified at this point but ever since he got the system, even though he was still scared inwardly of those that held power, his demeanor was coolness personified.

He then felt an energy coursing through his body, it was violent, he fell to his knees *thud* 'ughhh fuck me, I forgot how painful this is'. After getting up he rush to the bathroom to clean the sweat his body has produced during the ordeal. After he looked in the mirror he had rub his eyes to make sure it was him as he was more tone that before still lean with his muscles more pronounced than before but not bodybuilding like. His hair grew out some more messing up his usual style. All in all he look like a young athlete, which he wasn't by the way.
