Chapter 32: Pewter City

Xavier continued to battle other NPCs with determination, winning each encounter with strategic moves and the assistance of his Pokemon. Along the way, he also utilized his Insight talent, using Inspect to search for wild Pokemon that might catch his interest and to uncover hidden items.

After an hour of intense battles and exploration, Xavier finally arrived at Pewter City. He felt a sense of satisfaction and achievement, knowing that he had accomplished his third task, successfully leveling up Mankey to lv 17 and Nidoran to lv 15. Additionally, his keen eye and resourcefulness led him to discover 5 Oran Berries.

After reaching Pewter City, Xavier's first priority was to visit the Pokemon Center to ensure that both his Pokemons, Mankey and Nidoran, were healed and ready for battle. While they were being taken care of in the Pokemon Center, Xavier headed to the nearby Poke Mart to purchase some essential items .

With a hopeful heart, he also interacted with various NPCs in the city, hoping that someone might offer him a item for free. However, to his disappointment, none of the NPCs provided any such assistance.

Feeling slightly dejected but not discouraged, Xavier returned to the Pokemon Center to retrieve his fully healed Pokemons.

After retrieving his fully healed Pokemons from the Pokemon Center, Xavier wasted no time and headed straight to the Pewter Gym to challenge Brock.

As he stepped into the Gym, he noticed a Junior Trainer standing there, indicating that he needed to battle this Trainer before facing Brock himself. Beyond the Junior Trainer's position, Brock stood confidently on a stage.

Curious to know his opponents' Pokemon, Xavier decided to use Inspect on both the Junior Trainer and Brock. He discovered that the Junior Trainer had a Diglett at level 12 and a Sandshrew at level 14. As for Brock, his team consisted of a Geodude at level 15 and an Onix at level 18.

Xavier's surprise was evident as he compared these levels to what he remembered from the original game. The Pokemon levels seemed unusually high for this stage of the game, raising some suspicions in his mind.

But he remained confident in his abilities, believing that he could still secure an easy victory and earn the coveted Boulder Badge.

Xavier faced the Junior Trainer, and the battle began with the Trainer sending out his Diglett while Xavier chose to use Mankey. Xavier opted not to call out Nidoran at first, as he had used Inspect earlier and knew that Diglett knew Mud-Slap, which would be super effective against Nidoran's poison typing.

The battle commenced with Mankey executing a Night Slash, which Diglett attempted to counter with Mud-Slap. However, Mankey skillfully dodged the attack and retaliated with another Night Slash, dealing damage to Diglett. Diglett then tried to weaken Mankey's attack by using Growl, but it had little effect, and Mankey followed up with another Night Slash, successfully defeating Diglett.

The Junior Trainer then called back Diglett and sent out Sandshrew. Xavier decided to switch out Mankey and sent Nidoran into the battle. Sandshrew initiated the fight with Rollout, and Nidoran countered with Fury Attack. Unfortunately, Nidoran's attack didn't do much damage, and it was hit by Sandshrew's Rollout.

Realizing that Nidoran would sustain severe damage if hit again, Xavier strategically ordered Nidoran to take cover behind a nearby rock when Sandshrew prepared for another Rollout. As Sandshrew lunged towards the rock, Nidoran swiftly moved away, causing Sandshrew to crash into the rock and become disoriented.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Xavier commanded Nidoran to use Leer, lowering Sandshrew's defense, and then continued with a second Fury Attack, dealing damage to Sandshrew once again. Before Sandshrew could react, Nidoran executed a third Fury Attack, finishing the battle. As a result, Nidoran reached level 16 during the battle and began to glow, signaling that it was about to evolve.

Xavier was thrilled at the prospect of Nidoran evolving, and his excitement only grew as Nidoran transformed into Nidorino after the shining subsided. He received a pop-up asking whether Nidorino should learn Poison Tail, to which he answered affirmatively, replacing Poison Sting with the new move in Nidorino's moveset.
