Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Early years

"Push Lady Nataka, You are almost there." The ancestral home of the Nataka family was filled with the screams of a young woman and the scuffle of the wetnurses. "I can see the head. Here she comes."

I started to wail as all newborns instinctively do before I was swaddled and given back to my mother.

My nine tails hung out of the swaddle as not to crush them. "My beautiful and special daughter." My mother held me close enough that my newborn eyes finally

could see her. She oozed happiness and relief. "Your name will be Inari, Nataka Inari. My fruitful treasure." She then handed me to my father who held me just as firmly as my mother but his hands were a little more course. They reminded me of my fathers in my past life. "Take her for a moment Takemi, meet our daughter."

"She is beautiful isn't she." His voice was a low baritone but matched his hardened Asian features and muscular body.

"She is the first of my family line in since the dawn of quirks to be born with 9 tails. She will grow up to

be very beautiful and likely powerful. The stories of that ancestor were always magical. We may have a

little trouble keeping the boys away." My new mother chuckled but it was obvious that she was fading

and needed to sleep.

Dad's face scrunched in mock anger. "I'll never let them have her." His face softened before I was handed back to my mother where we fell asleep. "Sleep well Chinami, my love."

________

Time passes so quickly when you are a newborn. When I was brought home, most of the extended

family gushed over me while I was awake. The ladies of the family all had long fluffy tales that felt like

heaven to sleep on.

The gushing over me only got worse when two foxes showed up with name tags. There was a white one

with light blue markings that I knew would match part of my transformation. It was a calm little fox that

loved to rest near me. The other had the same white base but had deep purple markings. It was always

mischievous finding little trinkets of the family and bringing them near me before falling asleep. Their

name tags read Zenko and Yako respectively.

2 years passed by until I said my 1st word. I obviously picked mama because I was a mama's girl for sure.

Mom would help me comb my tails and when she would pick me up to have me sit on her lap she would always wrap me up with a few of her tails while the others would wrap around daddy.

I inherited my mother's long black hair and subtle whiskers. The only thing that didn't match up with

how Ahri traditionally looked in the game was the blue eyes of my father rather than the yellow she had in game.

My mother was the spitting image of Japanese beauty. She was a model that worked for Uwabami but she mostly did modelling for traditional Japanese Yukata. Dad was a construction worker with the first member of the cast that I met, Uraraka Ochaco. We met at my second birthday party, and she was

already the spitting image of Kirby with large round cheeks and a wide smile that made you want to give

her a hug. We spent much of the next two years together before we got our quirks.

___________

My 4th birthday party was a family exclusive event. It was incredibly rare that the girls of the Nataka

family didn't awaken their quirk on the morning of their 4th birthday and so it was always a special event.

The day before saw most of the Main family and the many branch families coming to the main family

building to set up for the party. This was traditionally the largest birthday party other than the coming-of-age party at 15 which would correspond to the months before the UA entrance exam. Ochaco had video called me the day before my birthday while I was forced to be away from the party preparations

and her quirk had come in and she was showing me her little pads on her fingers and what it did to a ball

she was holding.

"Nee, Nee, what do you think your quirk is going to be Inari? You have a lot of fox, so it might have to do

with that, but your papa is really strong so will you be strong?" Ochaco rambled excitedly.

"I don't know." I lied through my teeth, "I bet it will have to do with foxes though. Nobody else in the

family has had little foxes show up around them when they are born." I held up Zenko and petted her

silky fur.

We ended up talking for hours about heroes specifically Thirteen and Nana Shimura because I always thought that she was one of the cooler heroes that didn't show up in the show so much.

I fell asleep that night exhausted due to the excitement of both receiving my quirk and the party.

__________

One of the things that fanfiction always confused me about was the how painful quirk awakenings

seemed to be. For me, it was like awakening from a dream. The first thing I noticed was the smell of

everything. Everything smelled so strong but wasn't obnoxious. I could hear the hustle of adults in the

house as well which I definitely couldn't hear yesterday.

I stood up to stand in front of the mirror and I had two cute little fox ears that matched my dark hair with

little tufts of white hair sticking out of them. I was adorable.

"Inari, are you awake." My mom knocked on my door before poking her head inside. "Kya" she let out a

cute little shout when she saw my fox ears.

She gave me a big hug and gushed over my new ears which I found out were really sensitive when she

gave them a pet and I purred unconsciously.

"We brought a doctor in to give your quirk a test to see what it can do. These adorable little ears give me an idea but there might be more. Do you feel anything special Inari?"

I looked down at myself and inspected everything I could but then I could sense something that I

couldn't sense yesterday. "Daddy says his quirk works on Sta-ni-ma right?"

"Stamina Inari, but yes dear." I knew that but was trying to act like a 4 year old.

"Well, I can feel something like what daddy says but I can also feel it in you mama. Like I can grab it."

"Well give it a shot deary. Grab it and see what happens." I was still in my moms arms so I just reached towards her shoulder to grab the dim blue light that she was emitting. When I pulled I saw her eyes droop for a moment before I held a small chunk of blue light in my hand.

"See mama, Look." I held up the little ball of swirling stamina. I tossed it between my hands and then put

it back like it had never been taken away and my mom instantly perked up when the energy was put

back.

She looked at me in awe but it slowly turned into a big smile. "I'm so proud of you dear, we will talk to

the doctor to register your quirk. It's something brand new so they will want to make sure it all gets

written down. Now lets get you dressed for your big day."

I got dressed in a beautiful yukata that was reminiscent of Ahri's spirit blossom skin but for a small child. My nine tails swayed behind me as if they had a mind of their own. The day was a busy one and it all started with "preparing for battle" as my mother put it. I met with the doctors, and we went through everything my quirk could do, which was a lot. I could do all the magic that ahri could in game, summon spirit fire that leached stamina from who it hit and gave it to me, I could transform into a fox like mommy, and I even accidentally crushed a tool they gave me when they told me to try and move the stamina through my body. I named my quirk the spirit fox. The doctors were very amazed and said that my quirk would be incredibly helpful in many different fields including medicine and hero work.

After meeting with the doctors with just my mom I looked at her with a big smile. I whistled and called

Zenko and Yako over to me. "Can we play a prank on daddy?" The ladies in the family were naturally

mischievous due to the fox heritage and so my mom returned my wide grin before nodding.

I shifted into my fox form and stood between my two companions. I had the markings of both with deep

purples and blues running over my soft white fur. My eyes glowed blue with the look of the stamina that

I had taken from my mother earlier.

My dad had a little freak out when my mom rushed in holding me saying that I was stuck this way but I

quickly untransformed and mom and I laughed before I showed him what my quirk could do and he

joined in on the fun too when we pranked the family at the party later that day.
