Chapter 2: CHAPTER ONE: THE BEGINNING.

18 years later . . .

Hazel woke up as the sun rays coming through a window pierced through her eyes and shone on her skin. She covered her eyes with the back of her hand and yawned. She hopped off the bed and stretched her elegant body. She rushed to the bathroom as she quickly discovered how late it was. She was meant to go with her mother to Greenville college that day for admission purposes they had just moved to Williamsburg the day before and she was already stressed out. Maybe that was why she slept so long.

" Hazel! it's time for breakfast! hurry down now! " her mother yelled frustrated.

" Ok mum, I'll be there in a sec! "she said as she stood in front of a dressing mirror putting on a robe and drying her black ebony hair with a small towel.

She quickly put on a blue short but fitted gown that matched perfectly with her blue eyes. She smiled happily as she twirled around before going down.

" What were you doing? " her mother asked as she noticed her presence in the kitchen.

" We are already late " she said again not minding her own statement as she slowly poured fresh juice from the mixer into the cups before taking a seat.

" I'm sorry mum I woke up late " she said as she pouted her mouth making her mum to chuckle lightly.

" Okay fine but hurry up with your meal " she said.

. . . . . .

As they moved into the building, the place was not what she expected it to be. She thought it would be so commercial that it will even look like a workplace because of what her bestie Kayla told her. She stared around as she saw the tall walls that surrounded them. Some people walked past them holding books in their hands, she guessed them to be students. She rolled her eyes when one of the students winked at her. He was surrounded by some boys who stood there like they were there to protect him. 'It seems like he is very popular' she thought and waved at him shyly. and he flashed her back a smile.

Soon, they got to the principal's office and her mum stepped in. She told her to wait patiently on a bench outside the office.

It seemed like a whole day had passed but her mum was still in the office.

Getting worried, she stood up and tried peeping through the window to see what was happening.

She still couldn't see so she stood on her toes stretching her body as far as she could. Suddenly someone tapped her shoulder startled, she looked back and saw it was the same boy that winked at her. She was about to ask him a question when he threw his at her instead.

" What are you doing? peeping into the principal's office? " he asked with a questioning look in his eyes.

She had not seen him as close as this the first time, so she had not seen what he really looked like. His brown-hair that fell slightly on his face looked so soft. He also had eyes that matched his hair colour. 'There's something strange about this guy' she thought.

" Do you think the principal will hurt your mum ? " he asked as a cunning smile crawled up his face exposing his perfect set of teeth that seem to glitter with whiteness.

" Don't worry she doesn't bite " he said as he gave her an assuring smile.

" I never said that " she said trying to defend herself.

" My mum was in there too long so I had to find out what was happening " she continued. There was something about this girl the way she talked, walked, everything is she did. Her eyes were blue which was particularly peculiar. He had not seen someone with these set of eyes in a long while now. Where he came from, people only had those kind of eyes if there was something special about them.

" What are you thinking about? " she asked jolting him from his thoughts.

" No. . . nothing " he stammered and as he scratched the back of his head. She's shook her head, turned away from him and walked back to her seat.

After a while, her mother came out. She stood up and walked to her.

" How did it go?! " she asked as she held her hand obviously anxious.

" Well. . . it went great and you can finally come to Greenville!! "

" Yay!! I'm so happy mum, thank you! " she said as she hugged her tightly.

" It seems you've already started making friends " her mum said as she glanced over at the boy who was still standing there with his hands in his pocket resting on the wall.

" I'll meet you in the car " she said again as she saw the boy approaching them.

" It seems like you really like this place " he said with his hands still in his pocket.

" Yeah I do. I have heard a lot about from my friend Kayla. She lives just about half a mile from here " she said it's a light smile.

" Broadway " she said when she saw the confused look on his face.

" She also goes here " she added.

" Oh no wonder she knows a lot "he nodded.

" I'll be hoping to see you soon " he said and smiled.

" Bye " he added and left.

. . . . . .

She went home and couldn't stop thinking about what happened earlier.

" Who was that boy and why was he so. . . I don't even know the word to say " she said to herself.

" He seems rather strange. His eyes were not just brown, there was something being behind them like he was hiding something else " she pushed that thought aside and decided to call her bestie.

" Hello Kayla " she said over the phone as she smiled waiting to deliver the news.

"Hello . . . Hazel " she replied sleepily.

" I am not talking to you " she briskly added now fully awake.

" Why? what did I do wrong this time? "

" I am angry at you. You promised to call me as soon as you got to your new home "

" I am so sorry we had many things to do and after all that I was really tired I did not even know when I slept off "she apologized.

" Okay fine. I forgive you now tell me, do you like the house? is the house environment good for you ? hope you're not disturbed ? and the school ? " Kayla asked ready to ask more questions before she stopped her with a loud chuckle.

" What is it ? why are you laughing? did I say anything funny? " Kayla asked confused.

" No you didn't Kayla, it's just that I was amused you still haven't changed. You still ask a lot of questions. Hazel explained smiling.

" I'm sorry I was just being concerned " Kayla said apologetically .

" You don't have to apologize Kayla. In fact I am impressed. I love it when you ask a lot of questions " she said teasing her again.

"Stop it!" Kayla whined.

" Okay fine. I like the house but I've got better news "

" What is the news ? I hope it's really good news? " Kayla started.

" I got the admission!!! " she yelled and they both screamed.

" Oh my gosh! Hazel, I am so happy for you. You know what, I'll come see you tomorrow. Just send me your address right away okay? "

" Ok bye for now " Hazel said.

"Bye".

Kayla had been her best friend right from childhood. Even though she was a black girl she never let herself get bullied by anyone and she stood up for them both. She smiled as she remembered how they met in their second grade. . .

" Hey you! " a tiny bully yelled as she walked to hazel with her minions following closely behind.

" How dare you sit on my princess chair! " the girl yelled at her.

" S-sorry. . . " Hazel started and made to leave but a hand held that shoulder preventing her from standing up.

" Who are you to talk to my friend like that! " Kayla yelled back at the girl.

" You better stay out of it or else! "

" Or else what! " Kayla interrupted and immediately pulled her hair.

Her minions rushed to attack but Kayla overpowered them all while Hazel watched in shock.

She knew this girl was a new transfer student who just came to the school and they had not even exchanged glances not to talk of being friends.

" They are defeated! " Kayla said happily pulling Hazel out of her reverie.

Hazel just stared at her in shock. And that was how their friendship started and they later became sisters.

" What are you busy daydreaming about? " her mum asked pulling her out of her thoughts. " " " Nothing mum " she said smiling.

" Come down for dinner okay "

" Yes ma'am "
