Chapter 23: Quest

Wukong and Lorna flew through the cloudy sky as Wukong sat with a grumpy face. He crossed his arms and legs as he didn't say a word.

"You idiot. You gave away most of the money we had." Said Lorna as she sighed and shook her head.

"Hey, it's not my fault. We were in a hurry and the wallets mixed together while I was carrying you. It would've been fine if you weren't so heavy. Jeez, no wonder Nimbus is so tired these days. He has to put up with your fat ass."

Veins bulged from Lorna's head as she audibly gritted her teeth, threatening to shatter them.

"WHAT DID YOU SAY!" Screamed Lorna as we strangled Wukong. After a few minutes, Wukong laid battered and bruised as Lorna dusted her hands.

While they flew, they started to hear the sound of strong winds and what sounded like engines in the distance. Wukong stood up with a slight idea of what it might be. In the next second, black jets emerged from the cloud as they flew beside the Nimbus.

In the aircraft, one could see a person in the cockpit, piloting the vehicle. They also noticed the familiar large insignia of the aircraft of a bird.

"It's Shield. Get down." Just as he said this, the jet disappeared into the clouds once again, vanishing from their sight. They looked around and tried their best to spot their enemy but to no avail.

Instead, they were met with ear-piercing bangs as Lorna shot her hands up. In the next second, large bullets floated around them as the loud noises continued.

Wukong looked around for a second, failing to find the source of these attacks, before smiling slightly.

"We can do that too. Nimbus, disappear." As he said this, he and Lorna were slowly sucked into the cloud until they were completely submerged. It was then that the Nimbus delved into the surrounding clouds, blending in and fading away.

On the other side, multiple jets flew around the area as if they were looking for something.

"We can't find them. They've completely disappeared." Said a man in one of the jets as the Fury stood silent.

In the middle of the sky, a cloud moved faster than the others and moved as if it were an individual. Soon, it started to shift as two teenagers emerged from inside of it.

"It looks like the coast is clear." Said Wukong as he took a breath of fresh air.

"Why are they so determined to capture us? They've always been on our tail but it seems like we've pissed them off or something." Said Lorna.

Wukong had noticed this too. Ever since the incident at the warehouse, they had been on their tails constantly.

After a few seconds of soundlessness, Lorna looked at Wukong.

"Hey, remember that story you once told me about the Monkey King? Well, I remember the night you told me, I went to the library the next morning and did some research on him. But, I couldn't find much detail on the myth. So, how do you know so much about it?" Wukong was slightly shocked after hearing this. It seemed it was wise to know how much this world knew about him before he decided to tell stories about his past.

"Well, when I was admitted into the orphanage by my parents, who I don't remember, all I was left with was a ragged blanket and a book that was very unpopular on the Monkey King. I constantly read it, thinking that it was the only real connection I had to my parents." He said with a slight sadness in his voice.

In his mind, this was the perfect ploy. It would explain why he knew so much about the Monkey King while simultaneously explaining why she didn't find it in her research as he was sure to add the word 'unpopular'. It would also lessen her questions and give the illusion that this was a sensitive topic for him.

"Oh, I'm sorry." She said, knowing she had crossed a line.

Wukong gave himself a nod of approval and a pat on the back, calling himself a genius as he replied. "It's ok."

"Well, I was wondering if you could tell me more about him. The Monkey King I mean." To her, the thought of being free and reckless with no worries in the world like the Monkey King intrigued her. It was not a luxury she could have, therefore she would usually daydream about what it would be like to not be living under the shadow of her father.

Wukong stared at her for a couple of seconds before smiling and nodding in understanding. Of course, she was interested in him, the legendary Monkey King. Who wouldn't be?

"Well, what do you want to know specifically?" He asked.

"Just start from the beginning. Like, where did he get his name 'The Monkey King'"

Wukong thought about her question before smiling as he thought about the past.

"Well, the Monkey King was born from a rock. It was a supernatural rock that cracked open one day and let out the small Monkey. At his birth, he was blessed with great strength, agility and magical abilities. After wandering around for some time, he found other wild monkeys to join."

"One day, the Monkeys came across a river, across which was a waterfall. It was a powerful waterfall that smashed against the rocks and the water, threatening to crush any brave soul who dared to walk across it."

"It was then that one of the Monkeys made a suggestion. He said that any monkey that was brave enough to jump across the waterfall would be crowned as the Monkey King."

"The other monkeys looked at the waterfall, frightened as they dreamt of their demise if they were to approach that waterfall. Therefore, they decided not to accept the challenge. However, the monkey who had been born from the rock, stepped up, not shying away from a challenge and leaped into the waterfall."

"Being the great warrior that he was, he successfully passed through the waterfall and landed in a cave behind it. The monkeys decided to make this cave their new home and crowned the stone monkey as their Monkey King."

"Although he was referred to as the Monkey King, he humbly decided to call himself the Handsome Monkey King. Which was 100 per cent factual." He finished with a grin.

"Wow, he sounds a bit arrogant." She said with a chuckle. Wukong stared at her with a blank face. He had heard that word thrown around at him quite a few times.

"Maybe. But at the end of the day, this was the legendary Monkey King. Arrogance was rightfully his to have." He said with a large grin.

Lorna looked around for a few seconds and asked a question.

"By the way, where are we going?" She asked as she looked down and was met with a neverending ocean.

"Ah, it'll take us a while. After all, it's in a completely different continent." He said as he looked ahead.

"Different continent? Where exactly are we going?"

Before he could answer, he was met with a familiar yet different screen appearing before him.

[Quest: Find the true meaning of what it means to be the Monkey King. 0/2]

Wukong stared at this. His joy at the thought of getting some of his power back was quickly replaced by confusion and irritation. Instead, he was met with what seemed to be a mission, although 'mission' would be too polite of a word. The true meaning of the Monkey King? What kind of question was that? He was the Monkey King.

As he scanned the message over and over again, he noticed the 0/2 in the corner and wondered what that could mean. Was it 2 quests?

Wukong looked at the screen for a few more minutes before starting to feel furious. He had enough of this. His power was being denied to him, not only that, but he was being told to participate in these insipid chores that didn't even make sense.

Wukong looked at the screen and vowed that when he found whoever was behind this, he would surely teach them a lesson they would never forget.

However, Wukong was swiftly taken out of his thoughts as the screen disappeared. He turned his head only to be met with the sight of Lorna grabbing his shoulder.

"What's wrong with you? Are you okay? I've been calling you for a minute." She said as she stared at him, slightly worried at his peculiar behaviour.

"Oh, I didn't hear you. What were you saying?"

"Where are we going?"

Wukong thought about this question and couldn't help but smile nervously. What he was attempting to do was probably the hardest and most formidable challenge he'd have to face ever since coming to this world. But he didn't back down. He was ready.

"Have you ever heard of Wakanda?"
