Chapter 20: Wings

Chapter 20: Wings

The small apartment room went utterly quite except for Isabella's unsteady breathing. Dylan was still flabbergasted looking at the otherworldly creation behind him.

There were two large wings protruding from his back. They were not exactly attached to his body, but somehow stood right behind his spine, as if they were an illusion of something actually present there.

With bright blue glow shimmering on the large feathers with a hint of black vapour here and there, lighting up the room with a light shine.

Isabella's tiny hand was clutching onto one of the feathers of the right wing and Dylan could actually feel her touching. As if it was just another body part of him that was being touched.

"Isabella.." Dylan didn't know what else to say apart from calling her name. Gazing down at her, he found her forehead drenched in sweat and the girl was trying hard not to succumb to darkness.

"Isabella, baby. Just some more time. The a-ambulance is here. Don't be scared. I am here." Dylan patted her back, knowing that it was the only thing he could do right now.

Isabella heard him, but wasn't in a position to nod or reply. But she still managed to clutch the feather tighter, as if it sucking some energy from it. And soon enough, a faint light seemed to pass through her hands and reach her neck.

Dylan widened his eyes when the nail marks on her neck started to heal without any medication.

He didn't know what was happening, but Isabella's breathing was stabilising and the blood flow stopped.

The light was still passing into her body and it aroused a weird sensation in his body, as if he was directing something out of his body.

He didn't give much thought because Isabella seems to be getting better, but after few seconds, the glow stopped. Her shoulder and stomach injury were not yet healed, but they looked better that before.

[London | In the hospital]

"How is she?" Dylan anxiously asked the doctor while waiting outside the private room which now had Isabella.

"The stab was deep but it didn't touch any organs. We have stitched the wound. But please take care of her shoulder. Any slight pressure may cause ligament tear." Dylan nodded as he etched the instructions to his brain.

The doctor left, and Dylan contemplated to go in or not. He had these weird wings flapping behind him and for some reason, no one seemed to notice them.

Taking a deep breathe, he turned the door knob and walked in. Isabella lay there peacefully in the middle of the large white room equipped with all the emergency necessities.

Dylan walked a little disoriented because of this new addition to his body. The wings didn't touch any of the items around and just passed through them as if they were made of air.

Taking a seat beside the bed, he tenderly held the injured girl's hand and stroked it gently. he was glad that she was alive. Back in the flat, he almost thought he lost his princess.

Isabella slowly opened her eyes after some time when the sunlight peeked into the hospital ward, indicating that a new day had arrived.

"Dylan.." Dylan opened his eyes when he heard a soft voice call him. He didn't sleep, just closed his eyes to give them some rest.

He sighed looking at Isabella. "Princess, how are you?" Dylan asked softly as he rubbed her head.

"I am okay.. W-What about you?" Isabella said as she pointed to his magnificent wings.

Dylan scratched his head before replying. "I don't know. Why did they stick to me? And how are able to see them when others couldn't?"

Isabella raised her brows before thinking about this situation. "I don't know. How about you close them first."

Dylan pursed his lips hearing this.

"I tried, but they keep flapping on their own. I don't know what to do." Dylan replied. Indeed he tried so many times to close them or make them disappear.

He must have chanted 'close, close, close, close' for almost thousand times in his head by now.

Isabella nodded and touched his feathers. Dylan almost stopped her hand because his wings were canopied in a fiery blue flame but stopped remembering they didn't hurt her before.

"So soft, and beautiful." Isabella commented softly as she rubbed them gently with her fingers. Dylan inwardly sighed as he felt something sensual happen to him. He wanted to distract him with something or else Isabella's caresses might drive him crazy.

"You like them?" Dylan asked as he looked at her soft features. Isabella nodded as she looked mesmerised by his new wings.

"Even Loren's golden wings wouldn't win against these. And they seem to be stronger than dragon wings." Isabella commented, somewhat unsure about what to think of these wings.

"How about you try to Hifi me with your wings?" Isabella suggested and raised her hand for him to Hifi. Dylan sighed and closed his eyes, trying to order his wings to Hifi her. However, they just stayed there behind him. As if taunting him.

"Hahaha..." Dylan pursed his lips hearing her laugh at his struggle. Sigh..

"Isabella. Now tell me how are you? Hmm? Is it hurting anywhere?" Dylan asked as he stroked her cheeks with his hand. He had once been stabbed, and knew it was not easy to deal with these things.

"I told you. I am okay. My shoulder stings a bit and the cut on the stomach feels numb. But I am okay. Don't worry." Isabella gave him a small reassuring smile. She continued as she noticed that Dylan was still unconvinced.

"And you have already saved me. That crazy witch.. My father will not leave her if he finds out about this." Isabella mumbled. Dylan gave it a thought and held her hands gently again.

"Princess. That woman was the same woman who kidnapped Stella and did that lake magic thing. You remember I told you all those right?" Isabella nodded hearing this. Dylan once told what exactly happened and how the girl named Stella disappeared.

"Sigh.. Then why did she come here again? Does she want something from me?" Stella thought hard to think anything that she could have that interested that woman.

"Does she have some grudge on your parents? Like kingdom politics you know?" Dylan asked. he didn't know much about these things so he can only ask her.

"I don't know. I don't know what's happening in Mythiopia right now. As far as I remember, it was a peaceful kingdom... But tell me more about this Stella." Isabella asked suddenly.

She had heard that Stella was all about rules and etc but what could have interested this woman in capturing her?

"Well, if you ask me, then I will say boring. And irritating." Dylan scrunched his face as he remembered Stella's rule in his school days. His name would always be on board.

"Hahaha.. She looks like me, but is boring and irritating. Then what is your opinion on me Mr Jordan?" Isabella playfully gave a slap on his chest waiting for his answer. Dylan raised his eyebrows hearing her question.

There were many things about this girl and he always felt short of words to describe this wonder.

"Well, you are very different." Dylan lowered his voice and leaned forward to speak further.

"You are mysterious, naughty, smart, reserved, brave, loyal, and stunningly beautiful..." By the time Dylan finished his description, his lips were just an inch away from Isabella's and both their hearts thudding loudly against their chests.

"Every time you dragged me out of the class to tour you around, all those times when you made me sit and study to win against other sections, the time when you ran to me to say good bye, the moment when you opened the apartment door and looked at me, the hug you gave me, the lunch you made, these are what I remember about you."

"Other girls pale in front of you. I can't waste my brain cells remembering about some Stella and Bella when I have a breathtaking marvellous girl right next to me."

Dylan stared into Isabella's eyes as he confessed. Every word he uttered came from his heart and was delivered safely to her heart.

"I want you to stay healthy, safe and happy. I don't like seeing you hurt, or in pain. You are precious to me." saying this, he moved up a little and kissed her forehead.

He badly wanted to kiss those tender lips and say what exactly his heart felt for her. However he didn't want their first kiss and sweet confession happen in a hospital when she is hurt.

Isabella's closed her eyes feeling his warm lips on her forehead and took a deep breathe. 'You are precious to me.' That hit her deep, and she knew every word he uttered was sincere.

Dylan always had a beautiful way of expressing his thoughts, and though she had always been awed by that talent of his, today was the first time her heart fluttered crazy and also felt proud that it was only her that he had ever used these words for.
