Chapter 2: Status

Bodies imbued with Ki do not tire easily. Even after enduring an intense battle, cultivators can still engage in physical labor if the need arises.

There is, however, a burden that empowered muscles cannot overcome.

A dull, unceasing ache creeps into the very soul of humans when faced with overwhelming tragedy.

The sky, which was previously dyed in an apocalyptic shade of red during the invasion, had been cleansed to a refreshing blue after the world-changing wish.

After a long day of cleaning the battlefield and burying the deceased, it began changing to an impactful combination of yellow and red as the sun started to set.

Transitioning from a chaotic battle of life and death, to giving their final farewells over their comrades' eternal resting place, brought an immense psychological toll on all of the battered warriors.

Upon finishing, it was decided that the coalition army would set camp there for the night before returning to their respective nations. They were unsure of what awaited them in their own homes, so they felt it was best to recover as much as possible in order to leave in optimal conditions.

With the camp set for the evening, an important meeting was held in the central tent, where all personnel of significance were gathered.

The kings, generals, and top advisors that attended the war convened to discuss the mysterious 'system' that they were bestowed, as well as their next actions.

"Let us begin."

Choosing to remain standing, King Elmon addressed the others that had taken a seat at a round wooden table. Despite his youthful appearance preserved by his cultivation realm, patches of gray could still be seen overtaking the prominent raven-black hair atop his head.

Rather than in the traditional royal garb the kings would usually adorn, he attended this meeting while still dressed in his silver and black battle armor. His advisor did his best to conceal an uncontrollable wince at the yet-to-be-cleaned blood and dirt stains the armor was decorated with from the earlier battle. Fortunately, being all warriors, most present didn't think anything of it. Only the advisors that were overly concerned with etiquette seemed to mind.

"From what I've gathered throughout the day, we've all had similar findings. After focusing our will on the flashing red words labeled 'Notifications' in the upper right corner of our vision, we were shown numerous messages detailing our situation, and even showing our capabilities in a quantified form. Allow me to share my specific experience, and the rest of you can confirm whether it is consistent with your own.

After I directed my attention to the word 'Notifications', the initial 'Announcement' that we received was replaced with a congratulatory message for becoming a 'Non-Player Character'.

To give a better understanding, I will recount verbatim all non-sensitive information that appeared before me as I navigated through it.

Congratulations! You have been recognized by the System. Your new Status will be that of a Non-Player Character (NPC).

With this Status, after Class Selection, the System will choose how to allocate Experience Points and Ability Points after each Level Up.

You may earn the Experience Points necessary to increase your level by defeating enemies and achieving grand accomplishments.

The Feature Quest Issuance has become available to you. The System will provide Experience Points to Players for completing tasks that you assign them. You may also offer monetary rewards, in addition to other types, to further incentivize them.

Congratulations! The System has given you the Title 'King of a Nation'.

Your subordinates will gain bonuses to their Ability Scores and earn more Experience Points when fighting within your territory.

You gain additional Features: Bestowal of Nobility and Reward & Punishment.

Using the System Menu, you may alter the Noble Status of your subordinates. Their Noble Status affects the Features they have access to. You may also use the System to provide Buffs and Debuffs as rewards or consequences in response to their actions.

For obvious reasons, I will not be disclosing the values of my Attributes, nor will I detail my Skill names to everyone. I have not fully investigated the Classes yet and wanted to wait to discuss them with the rest of you before choosing. Please let me know if anyone has discovered anything different from what I have mentioned."

The faces of those present all reflected deep ponderance as King Elmon spoke. They seemed to be lost in thought while recollecting the various messages they received from the System.

At his final remark, most shook their heads to indicate that they didn't have any contrary discoveries.

There was, however, one individual that appeared hesitant to speak.

Draped in customary light purple robes intended for formal settings, Issac stood in a corner of the tent. Having taken the chance to quickly clean before this gathering, his neatly combed obsidian hair was still slightly wet after being washed.

During King Elmon's speech, he had been warily stealing subtle glances in the direction of King Amor. Amongst all of the Kings present, he was the one with the most hostile relationship with King Elmon, Isaac's King.

In normal times, disclosing personal information relating to one's abilities can lead to disastrous outcomes, especially to enemies. But this was not normal times. Their world just barely escaped the clutches of annihilation by demons, and only temporarily. They still needed to plan for the next invasion while figuring out the current situation.

As such, it was necessary for them to be united, with transparent cooperation.

The information he had to share was too vital.

"Is there something you'd like to say, Isaac?"

As King Elmon scanned the crowd looking for a response, he noticed Isaac was exuding an exceptionally serious atmosphere. His very presence amongst the prestigious individuals in the gathering was due to having activated the sacred artifact. They wanted to keep him close in case making the wish had an unknown effect on him. Seeing his current behavior, King Elmon decided to call out to him.

"Yes, my liege."

Issac took a pause and resolved himself.

"My Status is not that of a Non-Player Character."

"I am a Player."

Personally, I'd rather indent the status screen stats than list them in order, but it is too difficult to format it without it looking terrible on the phone.
