Chapter 59: Chapter 59: The Decree

In the following days, the situation in the mercenary city took a drastic turn. The various guilds and gangs were forced into submission by the domineering Crimson Rogue's Legion, yet none of these forces dared to retaliate.

This was because rumors of the Abyssal Scourge slaughtering the top leaders of various forces spread quickly causing the organizations that were spared to willingly surrender.

The forces without their leaders, either fled the mercenary city or chose to surrender to the rule of the Crimson Rogue's Legion, causing this already colossal force to expand more.

By the end of the week, the mercenary city was fully controlled by the Crimson Rogue's Legion, causing a significant stir in the already turbulent Dark Elf Tribe.

Zaos currently sat in his office located in the grand building of the former Raven Guild. After taking over the mercenary city, Zaos decided to turn this place into a city hall as it resided at the center of the settlement.

Sat across from him was the aged figure of Ronik Qildor. The latter's gaze toward Zaos had turned even more respectful after the recent events in the settlement.

"Lord Zaos, the supervisor is very pleased with your progress and would like to invite you over for a talk," Ronik spoke in a polite tone that lacked any form of familiarity.

[A meeting with the supervisor… I might be able to request a substantial award if I play my cards right…] Zaos mused. Since he had already decided to leave the Qildor clan, he aimed to receive as many benefits as he could before going solo.

Just when he was about to respond, the sound of hurried footsteps approaching his office reached his ears.

[Trouble?] Zaos stared fixed at the door, ignoring Ronik before him.

Ronik cast a puzzled gaze at the door but before he could inquire the situation, a set of anxious knocks resounded from behind the door.

"Who is it?" Zaos asked in a deep voice.

"City lord, I'm a guard from the building, here to report something urgently." A masculine voice filled with urgency replied.

"Come in," Zaos permitted, his curiosity piqued.

The door creaked open and the figure of a fully armored earth elf emerged in the office.

The earth elf with short hair bowed before speaking hurriedly.

"City lord, an individual claiming to be an envoy from an Empyrean clan has arrived!" The guard spoke hastily but with respect.

[An empyrean envoy?] Zaos and Ronik's expressions changed simultaneously.

The empyrean clans were the most powerful in every elven tribe. They had the highest grade of bloodlines and were ruled by powerful individuals known as Empyreal elves!

[Why is the envoy for such a large force here?] Zaos tensed. He didn't think his recent actions had caught the attention of such lofty figures.

Quickly composing himself, Zaos spoke to the guard.

"Lead him in," He then turned to the panicked Ronik and ordered, "Leave for now."

Ronik posed no objections and hastily departed from the room alongside the earth elf guard.

Left alone in the office, Zaos mused silently.

[The presence of an envoy can't be anything good. I should be prepared to flee at any moment…] Zaos mentally prepared himself.

A few seconds later, the door to the office swung open, and a male elf with long dark hair entered.

He wore an exclusive black suit with irregular golden patterns scattered on its surface. On his left chest was a golden insignia depicting a skull in the middle and two scythes intersecting behind it.

The figure radiated an aura of pride and superiority as he walked nonchalantly toward Zaos.

Zaos glanced at the crest on the figure's chest and deduced, [He should be from the Venifiel clan, yet… He is probably only a high elf…] After confirming the clan the other party served, Zaos assessed his strength based on his intuition.

The male elf suspected to be from the Venifiel clan stopped a few meters away from the already-standing Zaos. He spoke in a disdainful tone.

"You're the new ruler of this place?" He said the word ruler with a sneer.

Zaos slowly nodded, soothing his rising anger, he asked.

"You are?" His tone was neither disrespectful nor respectful.

"I am Orlandar. At the command of the great Venifiel clan, I have come to issue you a decree," Orlandar had a smug expression as he retrieved a scroll from his pocket.

He unfolded it and read its contents with utmost seriousness.

"By Order of empyreal elder Corym Venifiel: Zaos Qildor, you are to head to the border alongside your troops to support the guardian clans in battle. Failure to comply with this order within three days will result in you being labeled as a fugitive to be hunted and executed," Orlandar announced dutifully.

[They found out my identity?] Zaos was startled but after some thought, he realized it was only natural. The one who had issued the command was an empyreal elder, one of the rulers of the dark elf tribe. It was only natural he could gather information about someone as insignificant as Zaos easily.

Zaos sighed, contemplating the order.

[The only purpose of sending me to the border is to serve as cannon fodder to be discarded… It seems I can't wait any longer, I'll have to abandon this identity in the next two days!] Zaos resolved himself.

He had no interest in becoming a disposable pawn for the dark elf tribe, and his secrets also made it inconvenient for him to participate in such large-scale battles as a public figure.

Zaos' contemplation only lasted a brief second in reality. His comprehensive abilities had also been improved after his evolution.

Orlandar shifted his gaze to him and spoke in a mocking tone.

"Qildor clan remnant, don't let the lord's good grace be wasted. I doubt there will be another chance for your kind to prove themselves useful," After the dark elf from the Venifiel clan finished speaking, he left the office.

Zaos watched his residing figure intently. Although he could easily overpower the other party, the ones behind him weren't people Zaos could challenge.

[It's best not to attract any more attention for the time being,] He thought as the envoy vanished from his line of sight.

Zaos made his way out of the room, he beckoned to a guard in the hallway and ordered.

"Fetch me the individual known as Ronik. You should have seen him a while ago," Zaos spoke.

"City lord, do you mean the old man?" The fire elf guard with unremarkable features asked respectfully.

Seeing Zaos nod, the guard continued.

"He is waiting in the guest room," The guard informed.

"Oh? Have him come to my office then," Zaos ordered before returning.

A few seconds later, Zaos and Ronik sat across from each other in the beautifully decorated office. Without waiting for Ronik to speak, Zaos ordered in a deep voice.

"Tell me where the supervisor resides,"
