Chapter 3: "Lies, she is excited to see her boyfriend,"

Kilin sucked on her bruised lip as she raised her phone again. Though not as obvious as the others she had always admired Wyatt.

When he passed by her in the school halls she would glance at him from the corner of her eye entranced by his scent which was a far cry from the mix of cheap cologne and sweat from the other boys.

Like other girls, she would secretly login into the school forum and save all the pictures the girls had taken secretly of him in her secure folder. She would occasionally take a look at his pictures at night under the covers and imagine what it would be like being his girlfriend. She knew how ridiculous her desire was. In her eyes, it would be easier to go to Mars than be in a relationship with the school heartthrob.

But who would have thought he would actually ask her to be his girlfriend out of the blue?

She read and reread the message countless times, hardly believing her luck. The excitement bubbled within her, causing her to toss and turn on her bed. In her enthusiasm, she rolled too far and tumbled with a lid thud onto the floor, hitting her forehead against the carpeted surface.

Wincing in pain, she couldn't help but laugh at her own clumsiness. "Kilin!" she heard her mother yelling from outside her door.

"Sorry ma!" she yelled before slipping back under the covers struggling to contain her excitement.

Two days later...

As the morning sunlight peeked through her bedroom window, Kilin's excitement only grew. Today was the day she would finally see Wyatt face to face as it was the first day of school.

Completely out of character, she jumped out of bed before her uncle could wake her up. She could barely contain her enthusiasm as she entered the bathroom to wash up.

After putting on her uniform she rushed downstairs to the kitchen for some breakfast but when she passed by the bathroom she found Raylan standing on his booster stool while brushing his teeth. Unable to contain herself she ruffled his hair and he yelled, "Hey! I just combed it."

"Ugh, why is it so greasy? Did you wash your hair," complained Kilin forgetting she was the one who invited herself to touch his hair in the first place.

"Raylan, Kilin! Hurry up otherwise, you will be late!" yelled Uncle Marcus from downstairs.

Kilin skipped down the stairs and her uncle who was flipping pancakes glanced at her.

"Somebody woke up on the right side of the bed. The sun must have risen from the west for you to be this excited for school," he said placing a plate in front of her.

Kilin gasped exaggeratedly and said, "I have always been excited about school."

"Lies, she is excited to see her boyfriend," interjected Raylan and Kilin's eyes widened while their uncle froze with a dumbfounded look on his face.

He had watched Kilin grow up and had been there to see it all. From boy band crushes to manhua boy craze. He had witnessed it all but not this. Kilin had never actually had a thing for a real boy, well, at least from his knowledge.

"You! Come here," she said while lunging towards Raylan. Raylan dodged her hand and ran behind Uncle Marcus.

"Uncle save me!" he yelled seeking refuge.

"Kilin stop. We will be late," he said. Kilin listened but she still pointed at her eyes, with her middle and index finger, before pointing at him. it was a gesture that she was watching him.

"If you dare publicise it, especially to Luna you are dead," she said and Raylan pouted.

After a fast breakfast, the three set off into traffic. Her uncle glanced at her in the rearview mirror. Unlike Raylan who was curiously looking out the car window, she was on her phone as usual with a slight smile. She was probably talking to her friends or something.

"This boy...," he said already regretting opening his mouth, "Is he from a rich family?"

Kilin raised her head wondering why he was even asking this question. Why did it matter?

"... If he is then be careful. You can't trust them. Be vigilant," he said while the car stopped at the traffic light. He wished he could have warned his sister too back then.

She thought she had genuinely found love only to find out that she was the mistress all these years. Now she was left with two kids with their father nowhere in sight. At least he paid for the kid's schooling which was why Kilin and Raylan were at expensive private schools.

"Uncle, I know. I will be careful," she said before lowering her head again contemplating sending a good morning text. After that short 'en' Wyatt sent he hadn't written to her neither did she write to him. Not wanting to appear clingy she restrained herself but now she couldn't hold back any longer.

"Can you drop me off at the bakery shop next to the school? Oh and uncle, there is a package that will be delivered to your office," she said suddenly while typing. Uncle Marcus nodded his head. She bit her lower lip while typing.

Kiki: Good morning.

Kiki: Boyfriend.

After sending the messages she locked her screen and her heart beat out of her chest in nervousness.

Her uncle dropped her off and she waved at them when someone jumped her. She turned around and found that it was Keele her best friend.

"Yoh, you seem jumpy. What happened to your forehead and your lip?" she asked having noticed a slight bump on her forehead and bruise lip.

"It's nothing. Did you find out which class Wyatt is in?" she asked as they walked into the bakery shop.

Keele fixed the flower hair clip in her hair while answering, "Why do you want to know? You will find out soon enough."

"Come on, tell me," said Kilin as they slowly approached the till.

"Fine fine fine, he is obviously in class one but why are you interested?" she said her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Next please," called out the staff at the front so Kilin couldn't say anything now.

"I will tell you later," she said and stepped forward. She bought a  chocolate latte for Keele, a flat white for her and a small mango cheesecake for Wyatt. From the school forum, it was said that at his birthday parties, he always had this cheesecake.

While they were waiting Keele was listless. She couldn't wait anymore but Kilin knew that telling her here would draw attention. When their order number got called, Kilin picked them up and handed Keele the chocolate latte.

After walking out of the bakery shop Keele couldn't stand it anymore and she was practically begging. Kilin grabbed her arm and pulled her to the side of the pavement. When other students had passed she finally whispered, "Wyatt asked me to be his girlfriend!" her voice filled with giddiness.

As expected, she made a very good decision to tell her here. Keele squealed, causing a few heads to turn in their direction.

Kilin covered her mouth and showed a nervous smile at the passersby. "Will you keep it down," she said through gritted teeth and Keele nodded her head.

Kilin slowly let her go and Keele fixed her hair while trying to calm down but that was just a delayed onset. She suddenly squealed excitedly again her cheeks bright pink in excitement.

"AAAAAHHHHH!!"

Kilin, "..."
