Chapter 8: Poem of Doubts

After Bishop Salas left the suite, Zeng Wei took a moment to savor the luxury he now enjoyed. He lay on his comfortable bed, feeling a sense of contentment wash over him.

The opulence of his surroundings was almost overwhelming, and he decided to take it all in slowly.

However, as he relaxed, fatigue caught up with him, and he unintentionally drifted into slumber. Several hours passed, and Zeng Wei awoke to the gnawing pangs of hunger.

He realized that he needed to find the canteen to grab a meal. Not yet familiar with the academy's layout, he washed his face and made his way to the first floor to seek guidance from the receptionist.

The friendly receptionist, Alina, introduced herself and inquired if she could be of assistance. Zeng Wei explained his need to locate the canteen, and with a warm smile, she provided him with directions.

She wished him a hearty meal, and Zeng Wei thanked her before setting off for the canteen.

Upon arriving at the canteen, he encountered someone whose innate talent matched his own—Bibi Dong. Recognizing the possibility that they might become classmates or even fellow disciples of the Supreme Pontiff, Zeng Wei decided to greet her with a friendly demeanor.

However, much to his surprise, his friendly gesture was met with a scowl.

Bibi Dong walked past him with an air of disdain, leaving Zeng Wei bewildered at first, and then irritated. He couldn't fathom why Bibi Dong had taken such an instant dislike to him. Muttering under his breath, he muttered.

"Hmph, weird pink head."

To his surprise, Bibi Dong overheard his comment and swiftly turned around. The two of them locked eyes, and an intense staredown ensued. Bibi Dong challenged him.

"What did you just say, smelly idiot!?"

Zeng Wei wasn't one to back down from a challenge, and he met Bibi Dong's intense gaze with determination.

"I said you have a weird pink head."

He retorted, his voice firm but not aggressive.

Bibi Dong's violet eyes flared with irritation.

"Weird? Pink is a noble color, unlike some people's dull and boring black hair."

She shot back, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

Zeng Wei grinned cheekily.

"Well, if you like pink so much, maybe you should wear pink clothes too, then you'll be a complete dragon fruit."

Bibi Dong's lips curved into a slight smile but her anger was sure as hell still not dissipating.

"You're quite audacious, aren't you?"

Zeng Wei chuckled.

"That's just how I am. Life's too short to be too serious."

She regarded him for a moment before speaking in a more annoyed tone.

"Hmph! I'll just grab my food, as I don't have the time for you."

But Zeng Wei couldn't resist the temptation to annoy this girl.

"You know, Bibi Dong. Hmm, nah, nothing."

And it was a success.

"What is it!? Why you're so annoying!?"

Zeng Wei just laughed as he found this girl was quite funny.

"It's nothing but I think you'll be mad if I say it so I'll refrain myself from breaking your fragile heart."

Bibi Dong seemed angry and annoyed as a tick mark was formed on her forehead. Then, she ran after him to beat some sense to this smelly boy.

"COME HERE YOU STINKY SMELL BAD WEI!" she screamed.

Zeng Wei just laughed running away from Bibi Dong's pursuit. He was sure that he can outrun her as he was notably bigger and faster.

After running and playing Tom and Jerry for a while, they were both tired and agreed to just eat at cafeteria, they were famished!

As they waited in line to get their food, Zeng Wei couldn't resist a bit more banter.

"You know, Bibi Dong, I think I'll outshine you in the academy. But don't worry, I'll leave you some room to shine."

Bibi Dong raised an eyebrow, clearly not amused.

"You're quite full of yourself, aren't you? Just because you have some more talent than me doesn't mean you're invincible."

Zeng Wei shrugged, grinning mischievously.

"Who said anything about being invincible? I just plan to be the best version of myself, and if that means I'll outshine some people along the way, so be it."

Bibi Dong rolled her eyes, but there was a hint of a smile on her lips.

"Well, you better be ready to work hard for it. I don't have any intention to hand the top student title to anyone on a silver platter."

Zeng Wei chuckled, taking a step closer to her. He stared at her eyes and said.

"That's exactly what I'm looking forward to, Bibi Dong. A challenge and who knows, maybe we'll both be the top student."

Zeng Wei nodded, appreciating the change in atmosphere. As they both went to get their meals, there was an unspoken understanding that, despite their initial clash, they might just become more than rivals in the future—they could become fellow disciples.

As they savored their meal together, Zeng Wei couldn't help but ponder the future. He turned to Bibi Dong and asked.

"Do you really think we'll get the chance to become Supreme Pontiff's disciples?"

Bibi Dong paused, her gaze fixed on her food as she considered the question.

"Our talents are incredibly rare, Zeng Wei, as rare as the evolution of a worm into a dragon. I've heard stories of the Supreme Pontiff taking on disciples with unique potential.

So, I'm confident we'll have the chance."

Zeng Wei nodded, his excitement growing.

"That's fantastic to hear! But what if he doesn't want us as his disciples? What then?"

Bibi Dong sighed, her expression becoming more serious.

"Ultimately, it's the Supreme Pontiff's decision. If he chooses not to take us as his disciples, there's nothing we can do about it.

We can't force him into anything."

Zeng Wei nodded again, understanding the gravity of the situation. Becoming a disciple of the Supreme Pontiff was a dream shared by many, but the path to achieving that dream was uncertain and filled with challenges.

Still, the two of them were determined to give it their all and prove their worth to the enigmatic leader of Spirit Hall.

The conversation between Zeng Wei and Bibi Dong continued to revolve around their aspirations and what lay ahead. The cafeteria's lively atmosphere served as a backdrop to their contemplative discussion.

Zeng Wei leaned forward, his eyes reflecting his determination.

"You know, becoming one of the Supreme Pontiff's disciples will be super cool. It's not just about the prestige; it's the opportunity to learn from one of the most powerful and wise figures in the world.

I want to reach my full potential!"

Bibi Dong nodded in agreement, her own thoughts echoing Zeng Wei's sentiments.

"I feel the same way. The Supreme Pontiff's knowledge and guidance could unlock our true potential as spirit masters.

It's a chance to become something extraordinary although we're sure to become a super cool spirit master."

Their eyes met, a shared understanding passing between them. They both knew that the path they had chosen was not an easy one.

Zeng Wei grinned, breaking the momentarily serious mood.

"Well, Bibi Dong, if we're going to impress the Supreme Pontiff, we'll need to work hard and stand out. Let's make a pact to support each other and become the best spirit masters we can be!"

Zeng Wei extended his hand toward Bibi Dong.

Bibi Dong couldn't help but find this boy incredibly annoying, especially after their earlier failed attempt at catching him. She was determined to exact her revenge for the humiliation she felt.

"Hmph, who would want to support you, anyway?"

She retorted, her irritation clear.

"I definitely don't want to be friends with such a stinky boy like you. I mean, I plan to find a handsome guy to marry, you know.

What if there's no one left who wants to marry me because I got all smelly thanks to you? Bah!"

She stuck her tongue out playfully, a mischievous glint in her eyes. Zeng Wei was left utterly bewildered as it finally dawned on him that she was taking her revenge.

A small, sly smile tugged at the corners of Bibi Dong's lips as she burst into laughter, thoroughly enjoying her little act of retaliation.

...

After a hearty laugh, Bibi Dong bid her farewell to Zeng Wei. However, just before she departed, she kindly reminded him to check if there was any letter for him, mentioning that she had received one herself.

Her letter informed her of an impending meeting with the Supreme Pontiff scheduled for tomorrow, and she advised him to prepare accordingly.

With Bibi Dong's reminder memorized in his mind, Zeng Wei returned to his suite. Although eager to ensure he didn't miss any important communication, he first took a relaxing bath.

Then, as he rummaged through his belongings, he was relieved to discover the awaited letter. Its contents mirrored precisely what Bibi Dong had relayed: he too was summoned to meet with the Supreme Pontiff tomorrow.

As the weight of this significant event settled in, he began making preparations for the important meeting.

It was late in the night, under the gentle glow of the moonlight, Zeng Wei couldn't help but reflect on the day's events as he sat by the window in his luxurious suite.

The night sky was adorned with countless stars, casting a tranquil aura over Spirit Hall Academy. The moon, radiant and full, offered a sense of reassurance to all who gazed upon it.

Zeng Wei leaned back, his thoughts drifting to the future. Despite his confidence, the doubts that often accompany youth began to creep in.

The prospect of meeting the Supreme Pontiff, the highest authority in Spirit Hall, was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. He pondered whether he was truly ready for such a momentous encounter.

As Zeng Wei sat bathed in the moon's ethereal light, he couldn't help but engage in a quiet monologue, his thoughts flowing like a gentle stream of consciousness.

"The path I tread, paved with hopes and dreams, in the realm of spirits where destiny gleams.

A rare talent, awakened within my soul, to reach for the stars, to reach my goal.

Yet, doubts linger like shadows in the night, can I truly shine with this newfound light?

The Supreme Pontiff's presence, a daunting sight, will I measure up or falter in my might?

But as the moon whispers secrets to the night sky, I find solace in its soft, radiant sigh.

For in its glow, I see a path unfold, a  journey of discovery, brave and bold.

With every step, I'll cast away my fears, embrace the unknown, let destiny steer.

For in this moment, as the moonlight gleams, I'll follow my heart, and chase my dreams."

He felt a surge of determination coursing through his veins. The moonlight seemed to respond, casting its glow upon him like a benevolent blessing. In that inspired moment, he found himself crafting a simple poem, a proof to his unwavering resolve:

"Beneath the moon's soft, silken embrace. I find my courage, in this sacred space.

To the future, my heart takes flight. I'll face the challenge, with all my might.

In the realm of spirits, where destiny calls. I'll rise to greatness, and break down the walls."

Seeking solace in the moonlight, he sipped from the Life Wine Gourd that he had produced just now, it was acting as a rejuvenating elixir.

The warmth of the wine, coupled with the serene night, gradually eased his uncertainties. He reminded himself of the rare talents he possessed and the determination that had brought him this far.

With newfound resolve, Zeng Wei decided to call it a night. Tomorrow was a crucial day, one that could potentially alter the course of his life forever.

With his sense of purpose renewed, Zeng Wei settled into bed, ready to face the fateful meeting with the Supreme Pontiff on the morrow. The moonlight continued to cast its soothing glow, as if offering its silent support to the young spirit master on the cusp of greatness.
