Chapter 8: Chapter 8 : Catastrophe and Awakening
It didn't take long for Mordred to arrive at the gates of Mondstadt as she went at full speed. Dashing towards the Guild's counter, she passes a young man with ash blonde hair as he was about to greet Katheryne.
"She needs healing, where can she get some?"
"The most likely place would be the Church. However, I'm afraid they might be overwhelmed by the consequences of what happened earlier."
Looking around her, Mordred notices that Mondstadt is in turmoil. Some buildings are in ruins, people are rushing right and left, and the usually cheery and light atmosphere is now heavy with seriousness and fear. Where you would see drunkards enjoying a drink, there are mothers comforting their crying children. The sounds of laughter were replaced with cries of helplessness and groans of pain.
"I'll go to the church. When I come back, tell me what happened."
Without waiting for an answer, Mordred starts running again.
After leaving Fischl in a nun's care and being assured that she'll be fine, she goes back to question Katheryne.
"So you're telling me that in the two days I wasn't here, a dragon attacked? Do you know anything about why? Like someone in town provoking it or a girl that caught it's eye, so it tried to kidnap her?"
"It is, for the time being, unknown as to why Stormterror attacked the city. It is possible that it might be due to an old grudge against the city or something amongst the likes."
"By the way, the quest's a success even though Fischl got hurt."
As she said that, she put the Ruin Guard's core on the counter along with the subjugation proofs they got in the camps.
"Thirty-seven hilichurls, a samachurl and a mitachurl, along with a ruin guard. The quest seems to have been completed successfully, but we will put the promotion on hold until we get the report from your chaperone."
"Seems fair. How will the pay be split? Fifty-fifty?"
"As she wasn't doing the mission as an adventurer but as a staff member, Fischl will receive payment from the Guild but won't receive a reward for the quest itself. As such, the reward amounting 150 000 mora is entirely yours."
"I see. I'll go check if she woke up, so see ya."
Pocketing the money, Mordred leaves to check up on Fischl.

Meanwhile, inside a cave nearby a beach, an ancient creature is awakening. Clad in white clothing, the being slowly opens its eyes.
"And like Link, I awaken in a cave after a deep slumber. For real though, where am I?"
Looking around for clues, the person starts remembering what happened.
"We were about to leave this world when this white-haired lady got in the way... Aether ! Is he safe? Is he alright? The last thing I remember is him disappearing into cubes."
Walking towards the entrance of the cave, the girl tries to locate herself.
"Is it right now that the title appears and there's like some cool theme music and all? Who am I kidding? It's real life, so there are no cool things like that."
Grabbing a stick, the blonde girl starts making a rudimentary fishing rod.

"It's been three hours at least! Why is there no goddamn fish biting?"
As she said that, she starts feeling resistance on the rod, as if a fish took pity on her and decided to sacrifice itself.
However what she caught could hardly be described as a fish. Unless there are small, white-haired fishes that can fly and thank you for saving them.
"Paimon's name is Paimon! Thank you so much for saving me, I thought I was a goner!"
"Hi Paimon, do you have any food? I'm starving here."
"If Paimon had food, she would have eaten it already. But Paimon is also hungry, so if you find some, can you share with Paimon?"
"Well, I do see something that might be edible, but I'm not sure you'll want to eat it."
"Paimon is not a picky eater, I'll gladly take some of it."
"Okay, then don't move, I'll just get a stick ready, and then we'll cook it."
Saying that, the bigger of the two goes to find a stick to use as a skewer.
"Paimon, can you give me a hand to prepare the food?"
"Of course, Paimon's great at cooking... I think... maybe?"
"Okay, then stand up straight and don't move, I'll attach you to the skewer, and then we'll cook you."
"Okay, leave it to me! Wait, what?! You can't do this to me!"
"Of course not, I'm just joking. Or am I? There was a fish that was biting your cape thingie, I'll cook it."
"You really gave me a scare here, miss..."
"Lumine, my name's Lumine."
As they ate, the blonde girl recounted her life and how she ended up here. After the meal, they both started making their way towards the city of Mondstadt.

Surprise chapter !
We're introducing Lumine and are finally entering Genshin's main story. From here, I'll loosely follow the main plot while adding original arcs here and there. I hope that I'll cook something good, so stay tuned for this meal. And bon appétit.
