Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Infiltration

As the sun gradually set on the horizon, the day's toil came to an end. Whether they were workers or children, they returned to their "homes" for a brief rest and tranquility.

Despite Spedamairu Town entering the "industrial revolution" with various factories and chimneys standing tall, many areas in the town still fell into darkness as the night descended.

The wealthy naturally had candles and electric lights for illumination, but what about the poor?

They would wash up and go to sleep. Tomorrow, they would have to work again.

Under the cover of night, clandestine activities began to stir.

Clang!

Next to an estate at the edge of the upper city area, a manhole cover located by the road was pushed aside, and several figures crawled out from the sewer.

"That mansion over there is the Jadeite Family's residence."

"Good, let's get started. Rosinante, what are you thinking?"

Facing Doflamingo's question, Rosinante lifted his golden bangs. It had been some time since he last got a haircut, and it seemed like he needed to visit a barber after this fight to get a new hairstyle.

"Nothing much,"

"Just feeling a bit sentimental. We're either fighting or on our way to fight... It's been a while since we've done anything else."

In the morning, they fought against the Four-Color Family, and after recovering, they dealt with the Jadeite Family's underlings. Now, they had made their way to the vicinity of the Jadeite Family's residence, ready for some stealthy infiltration.

Life was quite fulfilling.

"To live, one must fight. Isn't that normal?"

Doflamingo's statement made perfect sense, leaving Rosinante speechless.

Upon careful consideration, it seemed that in this world, unless one chose to be an ordinary person, they were either fighting or on their way to fight.

And being an ordinary person... the situation of Bolkin, who was currently trailing behind them, was a typical example: trouble always found its way to those who were sitting at home.

Dying from the aftermath of battles between powerhouses was considered quite normal in this world.

"All right, let's proceed according to the plan."

Rosinante looked towards the nearby mansion. It was brightly lit, with patrolling figures moving around constantly. It wasn't a place one could easily infiltrate.

"Sure, once you give the signal, we'll move in."

Since the objective was to rescue someone, it was only natural for Rosinante, who had eaten the "Silent-Silent Fruit," to go in first to gather information.

Unfortunately, the "Silent-Silent Fruit" could only eliminate sound. If Rosinante had eaten the "Invisibility Fruit," he could have casually walked in through the front door.

As he thought about this, Rosinante pulled up the hood of his sports jacket and silently moved along the tree shadows by the roadside towards the mansion.

"Get ready, both of you,"

Once Rosinante left, Doflamingo turned to the other two and gave his orders.

"Okay,"

Vergo calmly nodded. In order to rescue the three "family members," he had long set aside thoughts of life and death.

Due to the gunshot wounds on his arms inflicted by Doflamingo, Vergo had tightly bound two sailor knives with cloth. When the mansion on the other side caused a commotion, Vergo would be the sharp knife at the front!

"I have no problem either, big brother Doflamingo."

Bolkin, who had just climbed out of the sewer, gently put down the wooden barrel on his back, which Rosinante had told him contained explosives.

In fact, what was inside was even more dangerous than explosives! Even if it was a poor version of "Blasting Rock," once it exploded, not to mention Bolkin, even the enormous mansion across from them would collapse halfway!

One had to admit that "A newborn calf is not afraid of tigers" was a wise saying.

-----------

"What should I say,"

Crawling on the ground, moving like a lizard using both hands and feet, Rosinante was approaching the mansion. He even found time to self-deprecate.

"A month ago, I was happily watching anime and playing games..."

A month later, he was not only used to killing and causing havoc, but also embarking on a real-life version of Assassin's Creed, infiltrating the enemy's lair alone.

Was this the loss of morality or the distortion of human nature?

His wandering thoughts didn't affect Rosinante's stealth. Soon, he reached a corner in the backyard of the mansion where there was no direct light. With a sprint and a leap, he grabbed the top of the surrounding wall and pulled himself up, flipping over and landing inside the mansion.

Blank,

With the "Silent-Silent Fruit," Rosinante didn't have to worry about making any sound. After landing inside the mansion, he unsheathed a dagger that had been specially coated black and silently approached a window.

Snap!

With his back against the wall, Rosinante took a quick glance inside.

Tsk, an empty room.

He inserted the dagger into the middle of the window and forcefully leveraged it!

In complete silence, the two windows were forcefully pried open, creating a gap. Rosinante then used another dagger to widen the opening, causing the windows to swing open to the sides.

If he didn't have the "Silent-Silent Fruit," this violent "lockpicking" would have been akin to self-destruction in the silent night.

Agilely flipping through the window, Rosinante thoughtfully closed it behind him.

Glancing at the furnishings in the room, he realized it was a kitchen.

It seems I'm destined to be associated with food.

Next...

With a narrowed gaze, Rosinante, who had infiltrated the mansion, found himself surrounded by enemies. Instead of feeling fear, he experienced a strange sense of excitement.

Let me randomly choose a lucky person...

----------

Bang!

"Tell me, where are the three officers of the Four-Color Family?"

Suddenly being yanked off the bed and thrown onto the floor, the thug, who was only wearing his boxers, hadn't fully come to his senses yet. He was now facing the question of a golden-haired boy standing over him.

"Who... who are you?"

Splat!

A pitch-black dagger was inserted into the floor, pressed against the thug's face, its cold metal sending shivers down his spine. His hair stood on end!

"Don't answer a question with a question. Right now, I'm the one asking you."

Stepping on the thug's chest, Rosinante tilted his head.

"Or, you can try to resist."

Resist?

That's right, where is that guy, Luke?

The thug, lying on the ground, glanced over to find Luke's body lying on the floor next to him... or rather, what used to be Luke.

"This is the result of resistance. So please think carefully about how you want to answer..."

"I... I... I'll tell you..."

Facing imminent death, the desire to survive overwhelmed the thug's mind.

Seeing that Luke, who was much stronger than him, had become a corpse, resisting was futile, right? There's no way it would work!

"They're keeping the three of them in the basement... the entrance to the basement is in the backyard..."

That simple?

"Very well, thank you for cooperating."

As Rosinante stood up, the dagger left the thug's face, causing him to subconsciously let out a sigh of relief.

Bang!

With a swift kick to the side of the thug's neck, he lost consciousness.

Having obtained the information, Rosinante touched his chin.

"This is already the third one. Could it be that these thugs know incorrect information?"

The unfortunate guy on the ground wasn't the first thug to "cooperate" in this way. In fact, within just half an hour, Rosinante had infiltrated three rooms.

After taking down one strong resistor, the others all chose to "cooperate" and spilled the beans on everything they knew.

According to their accounts, Torrebor, Bica, and Diamanti, the three unfortunate individuals, were imprisoned in the basement at the back of the mansion.

If this information was correct, then the Jadeite Family was taking their secrecy very seriously.

"Or..."

There's another possibility: they don't care if the information leaks.

In other words, there are experts guarding the place where the three-member group is being held!

"No wonder... my 'children' were so excited... Turns out there's a rat intruding."

?

Just as Rosinante was analyzing the situation to himself, a low, slow sound emanated from outside the door. The sound was like a heavy knife soaking in viscous blood—nauseating and discomforting.

?!

----------

Bang!

As they lay in ambush outside, Doflamiongo, Virgo, and Polkin anxiously awaited their chance. Suddenly, a bullet pierced through the window, accompanied by the shattering of glass, instantly shattering the tranquility of the mansion.

"Rosinante has taken action, let's go!"

Doflamiongo rushed out first, followed closely by Virgo. Finally, Polkin hesitated for a moment but decided to pick up the explosive barrel and follow.

"What's going on—"

"Who are you?"

"Stop right there!"

With a gunshot, the entire mansion seemed to be stirred up like an anthill. One by one, rooms lit up with candlelight as disheveled thugs rushed out from various corners, armed and searching.

In the guard room at the mansion's entrance, two thugs on night duty immediately spotted the three intruders charging in and aimed their flintlock pistols at the leader, Doflamiongo.

However, their response to their questioning was a dark object thrown their way, with a sizzling fuse trailing behind.

?!

Boom!!

In a deafening blast, the guard room crumbled instantly. The two guards were drowned in the explosion without even a grunt, their flesh and blood mixed with smoke and sand, creating an extremely bloody and gruesome scene!

"Haha, this is what it feels like to be alive!"

Doflamiongo pulled off a homemade "bomb" from his waist, lit the fuse, and threw it towards a crowd. He was exhilarated, like a 10-year-old child, constantly creating a scene of bloodshed and carnage.

"Polkin, bring me more bombs—"

At Doflamiongo's shout, Polkin immediately pulled more "bombs" from his waist and handed them to him.

At the same time, Virgo swung the knives tied to both hands, killing the thugs who attempted to charge towards them!
