Chapter 33: T Virus After Effects

"Feel free to return next time. We rarely see anyone here throughout the year, so it's quite unusual. Oh, and you left something behind earlier; remember to take it with you."

Andre handed over a small bag. Once the plane was in the air, Ren opened it and peered inside, a look of shock on his face. Had they really placed all these items in there?

He looked up at King Ada, his eyes solemn and his expression embarrassed.

"Mission failed."

All the surveillance and eavesdropping equipment they had painstakingly placed had been removed, neatly packed in the bag, and returned to them.

"No, on the contrary, we've succeeded," Ida Wang laughed.

"How so? We've handed over all this equipment to someone else. We want to know what's inside, but now there's no way."

King Ada gestured to the bag's contents. "Just because of this, do you think there's any place that would be afraid of these things?"

"A secret? They don't want us to find out?"

"Yes, Umbrella is currently under Wesker's control, but there's a base that even he is unaware of. Do you know what that means?"

Ren shook his head. "Perhaps it's hidden very deeply?"

"No, the reason is that the authority of this base is too high. Even Wesker doesn't have the authority to access it."

"No? Wesker is already the head of Umbrella's board of directors. What more authority could he lack?"

"And that's the enigma. I've worked with Umbrella for many years, but no one in this base knows about it. Don't you find that strange?"

"This base must be harboring a multitude of secrets."

King Ada fell silent. She had her own suspicions, but the idea she was entertaining was too astounding. If her suspicions were correct, the secrets in this base were beyond immense.

Perhaps Wesker already harbored suspicions, and his decision to send her here was an attempt to make a bold move and test the true owner of this base.

Unknown.

"Sir, King Ada and her team failed to acquire information about the Las Vegas base," Queen Red promptly delivered the mission report to Wesker.

"As expected. It seems that there are many secrets within the company, some of which I am unaware of."

Wesker glanced at the Red Queen with a meaningful look, though he refrained from verbalizing his thoughts. The Red Queen was likely privy to some of these secrets, but unfortunately, he lacked the authority to access them.

Should he use that special permission? He considered it briefly, but ultimately decided against it. Wesker did have an emergency permission, allowing him to temporarily elevate his authority to the highest level. However, he could only use this permission once.

....

For a year, the survivors, mostly had been in constant migration, moving from one place to another to evade the ever-present threat of zombies. Staying in one location for too long could easily lead to discovery by the undead.

Their journey took them to remote country towns, bypassing major cities and helping each other to survive. They clung together for warmth and support, knowing that their lives depended on it. Unfortunately, not all deaths were at the hands of zombies; some occurred due to the desperation of fellow survivors, triggered by a mere piece of bread or a bottle of water. Life had become astoundingly fragile and expendable.

The T-virus wasn't limited to infecting humans or living organisms; it had a detrimental effect on plant life as well. Plants all around the world were withering away. Over time, perhaps in twenty or thirty years, the Earth would slowly succumb to exhaustion. Humanity's fate seemed inescapable.

Supplies in rural towns and cities were dwindling, forcing the survivors to venture back into the big cities in search of food. The cycle of peril, casualties, and repeat appearances played out time and again.

....

One day, Varion received a report, "Sir, we've detected a strong wave of energy on the outskirts of the Las Vegas desert. It exhibits both alpha and beta brain waves, with exceptionally high values. Satellite data suggests it may be related to a member of the Alice project."

Varion was momentarily taken aback. The pace of developments had surprised him. The situation had evolved rapidly, seemingly defying logic. It appeared that the protagonist wielded extraordinary power, effortlessly gaining new abilities.

"Can you pinpoint the location?"

"Triangulation has commenced, but the chances are slim. Their satellite technology isn't advanced enough to track her unless she employs her ability again."

"Very well. Keep a close watch. By the way, how many Kryptonians have been created on Scientific Research Station Number?"

"Sir, we've cultivated 150 new Kryptonians. However, their education is a pressing concern. Without knowledge infusion at this stage, they won't differ much from human youngsters."
