Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Refugee From the City
A week has passed since power came back online.
Xiaoyun and Yunyun went to go refueled it to completely full after it ran out again.
Just as it was another relaxing day for Xiaoyun as he watches the three in the gym doing exercise while running in the treadmill until his phone ranged.
Although power has ran out in the city, somehow there still barely some cell service.
"What up Yezi?" Xiaoyun picked up the phone.
"Can you come to the front entrance to Luoping community? There's... is a bus at the gate right now. Um... some dude just walked out of the bus. Hey hands up this is private property! Stop right there before I open fire!" Yezi dropped his phone as Xiaoyun could hear a phone crack sound.
"Shit I am coming right now." Xiaoyun stopped the treadmill.
"What wrong?" Yanyan asked.
"Yezi is in trouble, I need to go help him." Xiaoyun ran out of the gym and got into his car.
Yunyun got into the car as well as Xiaoyun drove out.

"Who the hell are you guys?" Yezi yelled out as he stood on top of the makeshift stairs that lead to the security room roof.
"We don't have any bad intention. We just got out of the city." The man walked out with his hand raised.
"How many is in the bus?" Yezi asked.
"Twenty of us. We just want a place to stay. My name is Renqin" The man replied back.
"Lingang go check search him, and check the bus while you at it. Don't be scared I got your back." Yezi gave Lingang the signal.
Lingang walked up to the man, patted him down and found no weapon beside the fire axe hanging on his back.
"You don't mind me checking inside the bus right? Nothing dangerous inside?" Lingang asked.
"Nope, you can go right in." Renqin replied.
Lingang took a glace at the bus and saw several family grouped up inside, looking a little scared.
"I'm here to verify if anyone here has any dangerous weapon..." None of them said anything back to Lingang as he walked inside the bus.
"Um... I am not gang member or anything I-I am a nice guy, yeah a nice guy. You guys don't need to be so scared." As Lingang said it, all of them got even more scared instead of calming down.
"Never mind." Lingang walked back out of the bus.
"Mister Yezi, all clear!" Lingang signaled back to Yezi.
Yezi finally come down from the roof and walked toward Renqin.
"How did you guys made it out of the city? This late too? Its almost several week already and last time I went I almost died." Yezi lowered his rifle as he walked up.
"Its a long story, but we all lived in the same apartment building and fortunately one of us used to work as a bus driver that we lived close by. After we ran out of food we were able to rush to the bus and drove out. We didn't even had a direction to go to so we just ended up here now." Renqin explained.
"I thought the road was blocked by all the cars jammed? And how did you guys get off without getting catch by the zombies?" Yezi questioned.
"The military went inside the city yesterday. They removed all the roadblock and apparently was looking for some scientist. Even helicopter and explosive was used. We used that time to run out to the bus station's garage."
"Damn... that some lucky timing. One last thing, are you their leader?" Yezi asked.
"Um I guess, none of them wanted to lead and voted me to come out." Renqin awkwardly scratched his head.
"I see...one last last thing okay? Do you guys have your own food?" Yezi asked again.
"Um... about that. We ran out of food almost for a day now. Can you guys spare any food?" Renqin pleaded.
"You know food is hard to get... we can't just give it off for free." Yezi refused Renqin plead.
Suddenly a car drove toward the entrance from the inside. It was Xiaoyun finally arriving.
"What the issue?" The two got out of the car as Xiaoyun asked Yezi.
"They got out of the city with the bus when the military went to a rescue mission for some scientist...Long story short, now they want to ask us for food and a place to stay." Yezi explained everything to Xiaoyun.
"Hm... well we do have several houses that you guys can stay in and we do have some food." Xiaoyun glanced at the bus to see several families.
"I'm sure we can work something out... how about this, you guys work for Yezi and you guys can move in." Xiaoyun finally came up with an idea.
"But there no way I can feed this much peo——" Xiaoyun interrupted Yezi.
"Don't worry I can provide the food, but Yezi can you make sure they have work to do? I don't want to waste food for free." Xiaoyun added.
"I mean sure, I don't mind some extra hands to help secure this place. I was thinking of going to the construction site near the outskirt of the city to get some material and build a small wall at the entrance." Yezi finally folds.
"Then is that a deal Mr.Renqin? We will provide food and shelter and in return you guys need to work under him." Xiaoyun gave his offer.
"Let me go inside the bus and tell them." Renqin face looked excited as he walked away.
"Xiaoyun, aren't you being too generous?" Yezi asked.
"We can't always live in a small community like this, we are going need to expand and I think they are a great start." Xiaoyun thought back to Xiaoqi's plan about expanding.
"Well whatever, as long as you can maintain the food supply... how do you even get so much food? I never seen you drive out a single time." Yezi curiously asked.
"Um... Yezi can I trust you?" Xiaoyun suddenly asked.
"Wait Xiaoyun you——" Yunyun got interrupted by Xiaoyun.
"Yunyun just trust me, its fine."
"Yeah, you can trust me. If it wasn't for you, I would of died long time ago. If you don't mind can I call you brother Xiaoyun." Yezi lifted up the mood
"No no, you are much older than me, I should be calling you brother Yezi." Yezi suddenly patted Xiaoyun's back.
"Well then, we are brothers! I haven't had a brother I can trust since my smuggling days. Anyway lets ditch that and just call each other by name." Yezi seem very happy.
"Yeah yeah lets do that. Anyway here what I was going to show you." Xiaoyun showed his hand to Yezi.
"What wrong... where did that pen come from? What kind of magic is this!" Yezi looked extremely shocked as the pen just appeared out of thing air.
"Well I guess you can consider it magic, name something and I can make if I had touched it before." Xiaoyun explained his ability.
"How about a water bottle and a can of black bean dace?" Yezi looked even more excited than earlier.
"Here." Xiaoyun handed both to him as it appeared in his hand.
"T-this is... INSANE! You know how much we can profit off—— I mean imagine the people we can save people from starvation... wait can it do weapon as well?"
"How do you think Yunyun and me both have a gun? I only got one from an police officer laying on the floor." Xiaoyun pointed at Yunyun's pocket as Yezi face looked extremely happy.
"Also please keep this a secret, I don't want other to know."
"Don't worry I won't tell anyone, even if someone hold me at gunpoint." Yezi swear on his life.
"No need for that, I trust you brother." Xiaoyun put down Yezi's hand.
Finally Renqin came back out from the bus.
"We accept your deal as long as we can see the food tonight."
"Don't worry, you will get it tonight." Xiaoyun reassured him.
"Lingang you can open the gates now." The gates slowly opened.
"Renqin, you can stay in 308 and 307. Those two houses are super close to each other so it should be able to fit all of you guys."
"Thank you mister Yezi. Thank you mister Xiaoyun." Renqin bowed down then walked back inside the bus.
Yezi got back to his car and drove in front of the bus to lead it to the two houses as Lingang closed the gates again.
Both Xiaoyun and Yunyun got back into the car and drove back home.

As the sun sets and the moon slowly rises, Xiaoyun made as much canned food from beef to tomato to fit inside the car. Then Xiaoyun drove the car toward 307.
When Xiaoyun arrived, Renqin brought several people to helped Xiaoyun unload the food.
When Xiaoyun was unloading the food, he could hear some standing inside the house started began to start whisper to each other.
"He's only one person, why don't we just hold him hostage and take over the community? He look like the leader right?" The young man suggested.
"I mean we have way more people than them... but they have guns." The other young man whispered back.
"He gave us food and shelter and that how you want to thank him? How can my own son have such bad morals?" An elderly man suddenly yelled out and starting knocking on the two young man with a cane.
"Okay okay, dad I'm just joking." The two man held his head with his hand.
"Okay is this enough?" Xiaoyun asked as all the food is inside the two houses.
"Yeah its definitely enough for at least a week. Thank you so much." Renqin bowed down.
"No problem, just remember that tomorrow you guys going to have a lot of work... Also you might want to make sure that some people here don't have any wrong idea... people changes when they get too comfortable."
Xiaoyun remember Renqin was just a temporary leader of this group that had just formed for few day.
"Here's my phone number, if something goes wrong you can call me." Xiaoyun hand him a piece of paper
"Have a good sleep." Xiaoyun turned around and left the house.
Xiaoyun went back inside his car and drove back home.

On the dinner table, Yiyi and Yezi was coming over to eat dinner.
As they all sat down on the dinner table, the food was already ready.
"Hey Miss Yanyan, how did you look so young somehow?" Yiyi pulled Yanyan closer as if they known each other for a long time.
"Oh um last time you saw me I just forgot to wash my face... Anyway Xiaoyun how was the trip?" Yanyan changed the conversation as she can't think of an logical excuse.
"Most of them look like honest good people... but some of them are little ambitious and are little unhappy with their situation." Xiaoyun responded as he chew on a chicken wing.
"There always going to be few bad apples, now we let them in its too late. Its too late to kick them out now." Xiaoqi commented.
"So accepting them was a bad then?" Xiaoyun asked.
"I mean we might be expanding a little too fast, twenty people is more than double our current size if we count the people we rescued from the gangs... and that Renqin person seem to be more of a figurehead and a scapegoat if things go south. We should of only allowed some in." Xiaoqi replied.
"But if we don't let them in they would of all starved... we can't just think about right or wrong. How about our morals for each other as human?" Yunyun refused Xiaoqi's idea of rejecting them.
"How about we separate them right now? They aren't even one family or anything i doubt they would stick together anyway. We could make it like a family unit to make them less grouped up than now." Xiaomi suggested.
"Isn't that a little too early? They are going to push back against it. Maybe when we get to know each other more first and be more friendly to each other." Yanyan argued against Xiaomi's idea
"Anyway it not our problem, that for Yezi to deal with. I only promised about the food." Xiaoyun pushed the conversation problem to Yezi.
"Hey I'm sitting here you know?" Yezi dig down to the rice.
"Oh right I almost completely forgot about that... ha ha... Anyway what do you think about them Yezi?" Xiaoyun awkwardly asked.
"I am leaning more with Miss Yanyan's plan... Also Xiaoyun and Yunyun do you two want to come tomorrow to the trip to the construction site? Its going to be in the early morning so I can put them to work right after breakfast."
"Sure, I can go. More things I can create in the future, consider how much material an walls is going to take." Xiaoyun and Yunyun both nodded.
"C-can we go too?" Xiaoqi and Yanyan both asked.
"Sure, an extra pair of hands always helps." Yezi nodded.
"You two sure? Its going to be a lot of heavy work." Xiaoyun warned the two.
"Yeah, I am ready! My body has been training for a week now. Even Yunyun was impressed!" Xiaoqi stretches her biceps which barely can be seen.
"She sure impressed me. She went from being able to lift single digit kg to almost being able to lift her own weight in less than a week." Yunyun commented.
"How about Yanyan?" Xiaoyun asked.
"Mom? She is even more impressive. She went from only lifting half her weight to her weight... Not to mention she is much heavi—— hey why you hit me." Yanyan knocked on Yunyun head before she could finish.
"Watch your mouth." Yanyan face blushes.
"Oh yeah Xiaoyun, I had been seem to be getting strong, even though I barely exercise at all. Yiyi over here got a little stronger as well despite literally doing no exercise what so ever." Yezi pointed out.
"Hey I go do gardening work everyday now okay? Don't say I'm that lazy!" Yiyi angrily knocked on Yezi's head as Yezi surrenders.
"Hmm, everybody is getting strong despite not working out at all... Hey Xiaoyun do you think its the virus thing?" Xiaomi suddenly asked.
Everyone on the table turned to Xiaomi.
"Hm... maybe you are right." Xiaoyun responded back.
"What are you two talking about?" Yanyan finally asked as everyone looked in confusion.
"Well let just say this zombie outbreak is airborne that can travel through air and survive in the air for super long. Assuming it can survive in the wind as it move with the wind, everyone on earth is already infe——"
"What? Then how are we not zombies?" Yezi interrupted Xiaoyun.
"Let me finish, so this virus apparently has around like 1% infect turn rate to become zombie. I am not sure what the actual percentage here. Anyway so just because you are infected doesn't mean you will turn into a zombie.
The issue is when you do turn into a zombie and bit someone, they then have 99.99% turn rate to zombies." Xiaoyun stated the information from the book in the other timeline left him.
"So what I am getting at is that I think this virus is making everyone a little strong, and its making training even more effective than usual." Xiaoyun finally conclude his thoughts.
"So its like steroids, but in the air to everyone." Yezi dumb it down for himself.
"Yeah pretty much." Xiaoyun nodded.
"Well as long as it help us I don't have a problem with it... Thank you for the dinner Miss Yanyan." Yezi and Yiyi got up.
"No worry, if you like it you can come more often." Yanyan replied.
"Will do." Yezi and Yiyi walked back into their pickup truck.
