Chapter 2: The New World
(3rd PoV)
As Team 7 left the Hokage office, Shikamaru entered with a pile of documents.
"So you are able to perform that jutsu now?"
"Yeah. But not as proficiently as Dad. Or even the Second Hokage. I am not really a genius."
Shikamaru raised an eyebrow at that.
"Didn't you master all Uzumaki fuinjutsu techniques as well? While you may be an idiot in politics and paperwork, don't sell yourself short on your genius of being a shinobi."
"But I used 100 shadow clones daily, for more than 15 years. So, I took around 1500 years, while Dad mastered all this before he was even 24."
Shikamaru could only sigh at that. As if making 100 shadow clones daily isn't enough, continuously working with them for learning fuinjutsu which takes a toll mentally is just an absurdity. An absurdity that only Naruto can take on.
"Anyway, the barrier to the new world will weaken tomorrow. Will you really be able to attend Boruto's birthday? Even for you, that barrier will take all your chakra."
Naruto grimaced at that.
Three years ago, he suddenly sensed the world expanding, and around 8 billion people on this planet suddenly appeared along with a bunch of continents.
No. It will be more appropriate to say that the 'new world' existed alongside Shinobi world from the beginning, but there was this weird barrier separating the two worlds.
At some point of time, their world should have been the same, given that the similarity the Shinobi World shares with the countries Japan, China, India, Korea, and how the major language of Shinobi world is almost similar to 'Japanese' with some changes. With how Sasuke's Mangekyo abilities are from gods of Shinto, how there are many statues of Buddha all over the Shinobi world, and how Indra and Asura are from Hinduism, it is impossible to say that both worlds weren't connected at some point of time.
And the weird thing is, the new world doesn't have people with Chakra. The medical advancement is primitive in comparison to the Shinobi World, because they can't use chakra. But the technology is very advanced.
They have satellites to monitor the earth and the space beyond. Though for some reason those weird things couldn't find the Shinobi world, or that the moon was destroyed some years ago, or that the world almost ended during the Fourth Great Shinobi War.
Naruto couldn't find any trace of God tree's roots there, even though its roots were all over the Shinobi World which they had to clear.
Due to not having chakra, they had developed things like electricity without needing for lighting release to be used to charge the power stations. And they have this thing called internet with which they are connected to the whole world.
'Boruto calls me boomer for not being able to use computer properly.'
There is a barrier separating the two worlds, which takes as much chakra as himself, Kurama, Gyuuki, and even Choumei to stabilise it.
Because three years ago, when the barrier suddenly weakened that he was able to sense almost 8 billion people out of nowhere, some hours passed while investigating things. And in those hours, the chakra from the atmosphere of Shinobi world leaked into New World. And it had very mixed effects on the people there.
Almost all babies from around 0 to 3 years of age died. Old people got a lot healthier, and turned almost 10 years younger. The number of cancer patients almost quadrupled in a few hours, while some people with chronic disabilities got healed.
In short, the new world was in chaos. Deep chaos. But the Shinobi world profited from it. Due to peace, the ninjas weren't getting as many missions, and that led to impoverishment of ninja villages. It almost led to war with Iwa some years ago, though he doubted they would really go through with the war since he is alive and well.
But now that the new world has appeared, the ninja profession is booming, on an even larger scale than before the Fourth Shinobi War. While on paper the Shinobi Alliance has agreed upon not interfering with the new world, no ninja village is really upholding it.
There have been many assassinations in the New World as of late, and Kiri has been getting very rich even without Water Daimyo's funding as of late.
Kumo has been getting oil and arms, fighter jets and helicopters from somewhere, and USA is suspiciously pushing for green energy while stating that it now only uses 10% fossil fuels from what it used three years ago.
Suna has been prospering a lot, and India now has a new secret oil source for 38% of its energy needs.
Iwa has been prospering a lot too, with arms and all, and China now has suspiciously a big source of minerals.
It would have been okay if this was all though. Recently, a great war has started in the new world. China and USA are against each other, with many countries in the mix, like Russia, Iran, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Germany, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Sudan, and many more small countries.
And for some reason, Iwa and Kumo has been clashing against each other verbally.
Recently, Gaara has also told Naruto that he captured a group with American weapons that wanted freedom and democracy.
Naruto could only grimace what would be the scenario when he was gone for even a moment. The rise in revolutions and rebellions will only grow more and more.
Three years ago, the barrier had many cracks, and it took a few hours to put it back in place. But that was enough for some exchange to happen between the two worlds.
Two years ago, it took him, Kurama, all other bijuus, Sakura, Kakashi-sensei, Orochimaru, Kabuto, Karin and all other Kages to repair the cracks. And it took around 10 days.
One year ago, it took about two months, and a lot of exchanges happened last year.
So this year, it wouldn't be a surprise if it took as much as six months.
The more the barrier has cracks, the more weird effects it has on the New World. Their population has declined to 6 billion, and the average age has gone up to about 58. Infants just die due to the side effects.
"Why does it always start on Boruto's birthday anyway?"
Shikamaru questioned muttered. The cracks appear on the same day, which coincides with Boruto's birthday, March 27.
"It must be just a coincidence."
Naruto said that, but his voice didn't have much confidence in it.
"So, how do you plan to attend Boruto's birthday? I wouldn't be surprised if you will be busy for more than six months this time. And where is Sasuke anyway? Does he even know about what is happening right now?"
Naruto shook his head.
"Sasuke is still searching for clues against the Otsutsukis, which even made Kaguya fearful of them. He is in a different dimension, and he said that time flows pretty differently in different dimensions. He could explore one dimension for a day, and a year could have passed in our world. There is no way that Sasuke wouldn't return for 10 years for his daughter, even for a moment."
"Sigh. If only he was here. We could get some clues with his Rinnegan."
"Yeah. And anyway, I will be able to attend Boruto's birthday this year. Atleast for a few hours. Orochimaru said that he will be able to do something to hold it for a few hours because of a way he have found."
Shikamaru frowned.
"This is the first time I am hearing of this. What's his condition?"
"You know, getting Mitsuki on Boruto's team."
"...And?"
"That's it."
"That's it?"
"Yeah."
"Hmm, and you don't think Orochimaru has an ulterior motive for Boruto? Just like Sasuke maybe?"
"Nah. He said that he wants Mitsuki to develop free will. Afterall, he isn't a normal child."
Shikamaru facepalmed.
"And you don't think he is lying!?"
"Yeah. Afterall, I can detect it if he was."
"..."
"Anyway. Since we will contact the New World again, and for much longer time this year, the five Shinobi villages will be receiving some exchange students. While I am away, assign Team 7 and Team 8 to go to Japan to escort the exchange students to Konoha. I was emailed that many people may have awakened chakra, mainly from around Boruto's age."
While the barrier may have prevented anything from the two worlds on the opposite side of the earth to interact, the satellites and communication has been possible since last year.
"Exchange students... you forgot to tell me about it!"
"Hahaha... Sorry?"
"I won't help you with paperwork when you return."
"Noooooooo!"
"Yes. Troublesome Hokage."
