Chapter 598: Investigation
When his son shouted at him so loudly, Arata Yuuto was taken aback. He hadn't expected his own child to harbor such resentment towards him. However, at this point, he didn't care anymore. Whether it was his wife, his son, his younger brother, or sister-in-law, so many years had passed, and he had almost forgotten that he had a family.
"Sena, go and bring your father here," Aunt Aoba turned to Arata Sena and instructed him.
Aunt Aoba had witnessed how her husband had spent these years, and it had become a major issue for him, so she felt it was necessary to inform him.
Arata Sena nodded reluctantly and rushed out of the gym.
Meanwhile, on the other side, after leaving the Pokémon Center, Yuga went to the police station. Since the middle-aged man was not cooperating, the quickest way to find out his identity was through the authorities.
Regardless of whether he had been a wanted criminal or a hero in the past, as long as he was still alive, the police should be able to identify him.
After arriving at the police station, Yuga explained the situation to Liliana and then hurried back to the gym with her.
Just as Yuga and Liliana arrived at the gym's entrance, they saw Arata Sena and his father approaching.
"Uncle Arata, what brings you here?" Yuga asked with curiosity.
The expressions on Arata Sena's and his father's faces were both grim.
"Welcome back, Gym Leader," Arata Sena managed to force a somewhat awkward smile.
"What's going on?" Yuga inquired, puzzled by the odd atmosphere.
Arata Sena's father simply exchanged a brief greeting with Yuga before hastily entering the gym. Such behavior was quite impolite, but he couldn't be bothered with etiquette at this moment.
"You'll find out when you go inside," Arata Sena awkwardly replied to Yuga before hurrying into the gym's entrance, closely followed by Yuga and Liliana.
Once inside, Yuga noticed a crowd gathered around the peeping tom he had captured earlier. Arata Sena and his father were heading in that direction.
"What's happening? Why is everyone acting so strangely?" Yuga wondered aloud.
It was at this moment that Arata Sena's father, named Arata Hayato, spoke with trembling voice, "It's really you!"
"It's me, Hayato. It's been a long time," Arata Yuuto, who hadn't seen his brother for over a decade, responded calmly.
More than ten years had passed, and Arata Yuuto had never thought about reconnecting with his family. Even when he had returned to the Verdanturf Town, it was for a different purpose, and he hadn't considered visiting his relatives. His heart had long let go of these family ties, just as he had envisioned.
Hayato struggled to find the right words after reuniting with his brother after such a long time. In contrast, Yuga, who was standing nearby, was completely bewildered by the situation. He couldn't even remember Arata Sena's biological father's name at this moment.
In the current circumstances, the only word that came to Yuga's mind to describe the situation was "dramatic."
No wonder Arata Sena and Arata Hayato had looked so troubled when they entered the gym.
Originally, Yuga had considered having Liliana help investigate this man's identity, but he hadn't expected it to come to light before the investigation even began.
However, the investigation still needed to take place because the appearance of Arata Sena's biological father was too peculiar. According to Aunt Aoba's initial account, their elder brother lacked talent as a Pokémon Trainer, but now he had returned as a pseudo-Elite Trainer with two Pokémon in a special condition. This was highly abnormal.
"Alright, alright, these matters don't concern you all. Why are you standing around here? Beido, lead them away," Yuga addressed the children and Beido.
Beido nodded and ushered the curious children away, leaving only Arata Sena's family, Liliana, and Yuga at the scene.
"Although this person has a connection to you, his purpose in coming to Verdanturf Town is unclear and requires investigation. Therefore, I can't release him temporarily," Yuga informed Arata Sena's family.
Arata Hayato opened his mouth as if to say something but ultimately remained silent. Arata Sena and Aunt Aoba wore conflicted expressions. Even though they despised the man before them, he was still their brother-in-law and father. Pretending to be entirely indifferent was difficult.
"Aren't you going to say something? If you honestly explain your purpose for coming to Verdanturf Town and the issues with your two Pokémon, I might consider being lenient," Yuga said to Arata Yuuto.
Judging by Arata Yuuto's current attitude, his visit to Verdanturf Town was definitely not a good thing. Otherwise, he wouldn't have acted so furtively and kept silent.
Upon hearing Yuga's words, Arata Yuuto only glanced at him before turning his head away, refusing to say anything.
"What have you been doing all these years? Is there something you can't tell us?" Arata Hayato couldn't help but express his frustration.
"It's none of your business!" Arata Yuuto replied coldly.
Arata Hayato and Arata Sena's expressions soured further, and Aunt Aoba also looked very ugly. Their goodwill had been taken for granted.
Seeing that Arata Yuuto was unyielding, Yuga told Arata Sena's family, "Stay here and try to talk to him. Encourage him to reveal the purpose of his visit. I have some other matters to attend to."
Arata Sena's family nodded in response.
"Gengar, keep an eye on this man. If he escapes, see how I deal with you!"!" Before leaving, Yuga warned Gengar with a stern expression.
Gengar chuckled and patted his round belly, making a gesture to assure Yuga that he would complete the task.
After leaving the gym, Yuga accompanied Liliana to the police station to investigate Arata Yuuto's whereabouts over the years. Since Arata Yuuto was a local resident of Verdanturf Town, Yuga and Liliana intended to access his records and files. However, they discovered that his records and files had already been deleted.
When Arata Yuuto disappeared all those years ago and was missing for so long, he had been presumed dead, and Aunt Aoba's family had accepted this, leading to the erasure of his identity.
Since Liliana hadn't been in Verdanturf Town for long, she was unaware of these details. With both his records and files deleted, they couldn't find any clues.
Seeing that their lead had come to a dead end, Liliana hesitantly said, "There's actually another way to investigate this person."
Yuga, intrigued, asked, "Tell me, quickly."
Liliana explained, "We can make him reveal it himself."
"Reveal it himself? You mean... but..." Yuga instantly understood what she meant.
"In fact, our police department often uses this method to interrogate suspects in special circumstances."
