Chapter 788: The Hotel
The day after the incident, Strawberry came to the Verdanturf Gym with a gift to thank Yuga for his help.
Yuga politely welcomed her into the gym and was reluctant to accept her gratitude.
"I'm helping you because I want to, not for your thanks."
Strawberry was a grateful person. Despite being born at the Forest House, she often returned to help Director Kawahara.
Her individual efforts might seem insignificant for the entire orphanage, but it was her way of repaying the kindness of the Forest House.
That was the reason why Yuga was willing to assist her.
"Anyway, you helped me, so thank you."
Knowing Yuga didn't want gifts, Strawberry eventually didn't insist further.
"How's your job at the Kainos Hotel?"
Yuga poured a cup of honey tea for Strawberry and casually asked.
"I quit."
Strawberry took a deep breath, paused for a moment, and then spoke.
"You quit?"
Yuga was somewhat surprised.
As far as he knew, the job at the Kainos Hotel should have been important to Strawberry. Whenever Director Kawahara mentioned Strawberry's job, she always did so with a smile.
"Did your boss give you a hard time?"
Strawberry shook her head, indicating that wasn't the case.
Not only had her boss not caused her trouble, but after learning that Strawberry knew Yuga, he even wanted to promote and raise her salary.
However, Strawberry had her pride. Despite her financial struggles and humble background, Director Kawahara had taught her to stand tall once she left the Forest House.
The boss sacrificing his principles for profit disappointed her. She felt that even if she stayed and got a promotion, there would be no promising future for her there.
Before quitting, she had hesitated. Kainos was a "big corporation" in Verdanturf Town with good pay and benefits, but she couldn't get past the moral dilemma.
Yesterday at the police station, Lilliana easily uncovered the truth. The customer was a pushover, and as soon as Lilliana applied some pressure, he confessed everything without the need for hypnosis.
The customer was eventually detained on false accusation charges and was required to compensate Strawberry for her reputation damages.
The hotel owner, on the other hand, was not detained. He insisted he was unaware of the situation, and Lilliana couldn't do much about it for this minor offense.
Although he avoided prison, he was still fined, and he couldn't deny being an accomplice to the customer's scheme.
"What are your plans for the future?"
Workers like Strawberry, at the bottom of the employment ladder, couldn't survive without a job for long.
"I'll take it one step at a time. Verdanturf Town is big; I should be able to find work again."
She didn't drink a sip of the Honey Tea that Yuga poured for Strawberry. At this time, she just stared at the light yellow tea in the teacup in a daze.
Yuga could see the worry in her eyes. Losing her job, which was essential for her livelihood, wasn't as simple as she made it sound.
"Well, you can come work here."
Yuga thought for a moment and then suggested.
"But...," Strawberry hesitated. She knew Yuga wasn't just the Gym Leader of the Verdanturf Gym; he was also the owner of the YoYo Day Care.
But she couldn't imagine what she could do there. She was skilled in hotel services, but she didn't see how those skills would help her work at a Day Care.
As she thought about Yuga going out of his way to help her, she wanted to refuse. Yuga had already done her a great favor, and she didn't want to burden him further.
"I can't do the work at the Day Care, so let's forget about it. Thank you for considering me, though."
Upon hearing Strawberry's misunderstanding, Yuga chuckled and waved his hand, saying:
"No, no, I didn't intend for you to work at the Day Care. In my Pokémon Paradise, there's a small hotel, and it doesn't have a formal staff yet. But if you come on board, you might have to handle most of the work by yourself."
Currently, the staff at the Paradise Hotel, aside from the manager, were all temporary workers. If Strawberry joined, she'd be one of the only two employees there.
Yuga had plans to emulate the Paradise Restaurant and deploy a few Pokémon to assist at the Hotel.
Considering the current state of the Hotel's business, hiring a full staff wasn't cost-effective. If Strawberry was willing to work as a headwaiter and had a few Pokémon as helpers, the workload would be manageable, cost-effective, and convenient.
Thinking about it, Yuga believed this was a brilliant idea.
Strawberry blushed deeply upon realizing her mistake, and Yuga, seeing her shyness, didn't mention it but explained his plan.
"So, what do you say? Would you like to help me? While the wages here might not initially match what you earned at Kainos Hotel, if you do well, I'll increase your pay."
Upon hearing Yuga's plan, Strawberry found it highly feasible.
The entire Pokémon Paradise was centered around Pokémon, with a Pokémon Restaurant and a Pokémon Hotel. It had a unique and appealing theme.
"Great! I promise I'll do my best to help you run the Hotel smoothly."
Finding a job and being able to repay Yuga for his help was exactly what Strawberry needed. She had no reason to refuse.
Upon hearing Strawberry's acceptance, Yuga was delighted.
As long as Pokémon Paradise thrived, the YoYo Day Care's business model would become more comprehensive.
From customers reserving Pokémon to staying in Verdanturf Town and dining to interacting with the Pokémon they booked at Pokémon Paradise, YoYo Day Care could offer an all-inclusive service.
After discussing and finalizing the details with Strawberry, Yuga promptly handled her hiring paperwork and introduced her to the current inn manager.
The current manager only oversaw general inn affairs and wasn't in a higher position than Strawberry.
At present, the Hotel only had two official staff members, and Yuga didn't want to grant too much authority to any one person. If he knew the ins and outs of inn management, he wouldn't even hire a manager.
After introducing Strawberry to the Hotel manager, Yuga took her on a tour of Pokémon Paradise to familiarize her with her future work environment.
Along the way, they encountered wandering stray Pokémon, and Yuga introduced Strawberry to them, letting them know that she would also be an employee here, preventing any unnecessary misunderstandings.
Strawberry was an efficient worker, and on her second day of employment, she arrived at Pokémon Paradise early in the morning to start her new job.
Unlike other YoYo Day Care employees who lived in the staff dormitory, Strawberry, being a local from Verdanturf Town who had saved up some money over the years, owned her own house. She commuted to work daily, allowing her to return home after her shift.
