Chapter 2: Frustration and Resolve

Everything around him was somewhat muffled, he could hear voices, but he didn't know what they were saying. Even when everything came into focus, he still couldn't understand a single word of this alien language.

(A/N *" will be used to notate language the MC does not understand)

*"Congratulations Scarlett! It's a boy!"* said a woman who was clearly a midwife.

Jason was still taking in his surroundings when he noticed the midwife had a concerned look on her face.

*"This is weird, he isn't crying! I don't think he can breathe"* With that concern, she promptly turned him upside down and smacked his butt.

"HEY, WATCH WHERE YOU'RE HITTING YOU OLD BITCH" He tried to scream, however since his vocal chords were under-developed, all that could be heard was a baby's screams.

This prompted sighs of relief from both of his parents, before finally his father spoke.

*"Welcome to the world Saivas! I can't believe I'm finally a father!"*

The man known as Stuart was elated! He and his wife had been trying for months before she became pregnant.

Now, not only had he been successful, but he also had a son! Sure he would have loved to have a daughter, but as a man, he couldn't help to think of all the things he was going to be able to pass on to his heir.

Jason continued to rant for a while until a strange sight stopped his crying almost immediately.

Back at his entrance to this new world, a green glow was forming.

As he watched closer, he noticed the damage from a clearly troublesome birth being repaired before his eyes.

Bleeding stopped, tissues came back together at visible speed without leaving a single scar.

What Jason was seeing was clearly and undeniably magic!

The first thing he thought of was how many opportunities this could open for him!

Immediately thereafter though, Jason couldn't help but be frustrated being forced into the body of a baby.

He was a genius for crying out loud! How could he accept being put back to square one?

'I can't even decide if keeping my memories is a blessing or a curse. How many laws of physics apply here the same way they did back on earth? Would they even know what I was talking about if I asked?'

Jason couldn't help but wonder just how much he'd have to unlearn to survive in this world run by magic.

'The worst part is, I can't understand a word anyone is saying! Well maybe the feeling of crapping myself is a bit worse...' As if on queue, the sound of emptying bowels filled the room.

'Yeah ok, this is definitely worse' he lamenting before crying out for his mother to change him.

He may have been bright, but a completely unfamiliar language was going to take even him a while. And the muscles necessary to control his bowels could only be developed over time.

'I guess there's no use complaining about it, I'll have to treat it like anything else and start at step one. I really wish I could see magic again though...'

.

.

.

Over the first few months after reincarnating, Jason managed to learn a few things.

First and most important, he managed to get a basic handle on the new language. However he still wasn't confident in being able to speak.

Even if he had the proper vocal chords, understanding a sentence and making a sentence were 2 very different things after all.

That being said, it was a good start.

Understanding allowed him to learn a few important things.

He discovered that his new name was Saivas Anthera, though everyone around him mostly referred to him as Sai.

He couldn't help but think of a sunglasses wearing Korean singer from his past life and inwardly cringed.

'Yeah, zero chance I'm keeping that nickname into adulthood...' he thought to himself.

The second thing he learned was that he was on a planet called Ka-Thall, in the kingdom of Noscrand.

Noscrand, while prosperous, had abysmal technological prowess. It reminded him of a certain period in Earth's history where everyone focused on god as opposed to science. Otherwise known as the Dark Ages.

Saivas used to think that was one of the greatest tragedies in human history. After meeting god, he was now sure that was the case.

'Giving up glorious science for that overpowered man-child, what idiots!' he thought back to his time spent in-between lives and scowled.

That being said, he couldn't really blame the people in this world for neglecting science. After all, almost all of their needs could be met by magic.

A fire could be started by a simple incantation. This could accommodate cooking, lighting, and heating. Ice could be generated to keep cool in the summer.

Wind could be summoned to dry both people and clothing. Water could be summoned to create makeshift plumbing, and darkness magic could be used to destroy waste.

The need for medical science was obsolete since light magic basically took over the entire field. And construction could be done very quickly and conveniently thanks to earth magic, so power tools were largely uncalled for.

'Necessity really is the mother of invention...'

Deciding to address that problem later, Saivas thought of his family. More specifically his parents since he was an only child.

The parents of this body were a young couple named Scarlett and Stuart Anthera.

His mother was a bit overbearing, but then again what mother didn't dote over a newborn?

He did his best to play the part of an infant. It wasn't easy since he had never cared for a child, but it was absolutely necessary. Understandably, the last thing he needed was his parents to think he was some kind of monster that possessed their son.

"Even still, it's nice to be loved without expectation again. I've surely missed this feeling' He couldn't help but think to himself

'Still, why the fuck is my mom so hot?'

Without question, she was one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen. She stood at a modest 5'3" with long brown hair that was usually put up in a bun, and brown eyes that glowed like honey in the sunlight. Even the effects of poverty could not diminish her beauty.

She always wore a kind smile and, while she didn't have an hourglass figure (Lacking particularly in the curves department) she was still remarkably well proportioned.

Her beauty was understated, which only caused her smile to become more radiant.

'The first great beauty I get to meet in my new life and she's completely off limits!' Saivas decided that if he ever met "God" again, he would punch him right between the eyes.

Since formula wasn't invented in this world, Saivas had no option but to be breast fed. His mother often joked that he would always close his eyes, calling him "My little gentleman"

What else could he do? He wasn't a degenerate, and having the mind of a 22 year old man, he couldn't bring himself to normalize the situation.

'I mean I can't exactly let myself starve to death, I'm sorry mom! I promise I'll move to baby food as quickly as I can!' Pledging himself to protect her dignity, he started thinking about something else.

His father was a former knight from the King's Guard. He stood at an Impressive 6'1" with jet black hair and hazel eyes. His face was somewhat angular and always was covered in a light stubble. Even though he was only 23, he had been retired for a year and a half after a dishonorable discharge.

Saivas didn't yet know the circumstances behind his dismissal, but he figured given enough time he would come to find out.

'I'm sure the villagers will give me the full story as they're harassing me for being his son' He groaned inwardly.

Unsurprisingly, the villagers didn't take kindly to the disgraced knight. As such, they barely scraped by, only earning money by farming the land his father had bought while he was still in service to the king.

Even though it was clear he had once had a very formidable build, over a year of poor nutrition had taken it's toll.

This didn't stop his father from training regularly. In fact, the way he moved while practicing would have surely shocked anyone considering how gaunt he currently was.

Even Saivas, whose martial arts experience was not insignificant thanks to the MMA lessons his parents had forced him to take, couldn't help but be impressed.

'So my father is a badass, that could be useful down the road' Saivas thought to himself

Needless to say, he had no intention of dying again. The experience was not one he'd recommend and he might even go as far as saying it sucked ass. So having a father who could protect him was a great boon.

'Though, in a world of magic I guess that means I'm going to have to be strong, it's not like he'll always be here to protect me'

This was not good news.

In fact it could be considered the worst news somebody like Saivas could receive.

It's not that he had any doubts he could make it happen. There was nothing that Jason had ever been unable to overcome, and there was no reason Saivas should be any different.

'But can I really handle the life of a genius again?'

He had been given a prime chance to start over and gain the childhood he had been rudely robbed of in his last life. But could he really ensure his safety if he coasted along and played dumb?

That thought made him sigh.

'If anyone can do it, surely I can! I cured cancer, got a PhD at 16, and revolutionized the world more times than I can count. I'm sure I can at least figure out how to be strong without anyone knowing...'

Everything he did in his last life was at somebody else's whim. This time was different. This time he was going to do it for nobody else but himself.

'Still, it's going to be a pain in the ass the whole time'

Stealth strength was not something that was easy to achieve, and in this new world, something told Saivas that the bar for strength was much higher than back on Earth.

Meaning in order to become strong, he needed to jump headfirst into the one thing he wasn't confident in after coming to this new world.

He was going to need to learn magic.
