Chapter 3: 3. I'm paralyzed
"I'm paralyzed," Anna uttered, realizing that staring in the mirror for too long was starting to seem weird in front of the doctor and George.
Anna finally understood why the man in the black suit looked familiar.
The man was the one Anna was supposed to marry to keep her father's business alive and bring it more fortune.
Anna remembered the real Anna refusing her father's opinion of marrying George.
Chen Chang, Anna's father, suggested that she should marry George because he happened to be a very successful man.
George owned numerous businesses that made him a successful young man.
George was more like a commoner in the past, but when he was given the opportunity to make a small investment, he used that chance wisely and blossomed into a very successful man.
George had received countless awards for his abilities.
However, Anna Chen didn't seem to have been impressed by his success, abilities, qualities, and talents.
The real Anna rejected George and chose to be with a man like Wang Lixin, her ex-boyfriend.
Turns out that the real Anna had made a worse mistake and a wrong decision for her life.
However, Anna was already dead, and Li Xiu was the one now living in Anna's image.
Li Xiu didn't know how it had happened, but whether she believed it or not, she was already inhabiting Anna Chen's body, experiencing every pain that Anna had felt.
It was as if Anna's body had seamlessly become her own, and Li Xiu was fully prepared to live on as Anna.
Anna had stolen a glance at the man carrying her, allowing her to confirm her identity in the mirror.
George appeared tired from carrying her, but Anna could sense the genuine happiness in his willingness to help.
Anna decided to divert her gaze from the mirror to avoid appearing mentally troubled.
"When will I be able to walk again?" Anna inquired, gesturing to George to help her back onto the bed.
George understood her unspoken words and gently laid her down on the bed.
Anna came to the realization that her body was incredibly weak, and there were certain things she would be unable to do.
For how long, though?
Anna looked up, seeking answers from the doctor.
Oddly enough, the doctor appeared somewhat puzzled.
Despite this, he provided an explanation, stating that the timeline depended on Anna's progress.
From his experience, the doctor believed that she'd be able to walk after several months of therapy.
Anna needed assistance to return to her normal state, especially her mental state.
The doctor explained it in the simplest way he could.
Anna lowered her head and rolled over to lie on her side.
No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't get Anna's memories out of her head.
Some memories, especially, were so painful.
It hurt her more when she recalled the way the real Anna's boyfriend had hit her mercilessly.
Anna recalled the evil smirk he had on his face when he hit her with his car wickedly.
It felt as if it had happened yesterday, but it had already been four years!
Four fucking years!
Anna, feeling what the real Anna felt, believed that she had failed as a daughter in protecting her family's business.
She wiped her tears, not knowing when she had started crying.
Anna then paid attention to the doctor's statement, only to realize that he had to conduct some tests to ensure that she was free from any health issues.
As if that bothered her. But when Anna thought deeply about it, she realized that her health had to come first. She definitely shouldn't neglect her health as she did in her previous life.
Thus, Anna paid attention to what the doctor had to say.
The doctor then instructed George to pay attention to Anna's recovery and that he'd recommend a physiotherapist who would help Anna recover soon.
Anna only stayed quiet, and even when the doctor left, she remained in that spot.
George watched her for a while but couldn't see her face as she had her back facing him.
"I'm so happy that you are finally awake," George uttered, just to be met with deep silence.
"Are you hungry, Anna?" George spoke again and asked after the moment of silence.
However, George didn't hear any words from her, so he went around the bed to check on her.
To George's surprise, Anna already had her eyes closed.
This caused George to seek the doctor again as he was scared that she might have gone back into a coma.
However, after a series of explanations, it was only normal for Anna to go to sleep because of her mental health and her condition.
The doctor explained things to George, only for him to be relieved.
George sat on the sofa, resting against the wall, breathing heavily as if he had been running a race.
"I'm relieved," he whispered.
"Tomorrow morning, I'll find my way here to check on her and conduct some tests," Doctor Zhao, announced.
George nodded thoughtfully and glanced at Anna before rising from the sofa.
He walked to the bed and covered Anna with the blanket.
"I'll escort you out, Doctor," George said, motioning to the door, and watched the doctor walk ahead of him.
George took a moment to appreciate Doctor Zhao for enduring with him for four years.
Even when Doctor Zhao tried to make George understand that it wasn't such a big deal, George didn't stop thanking him.
George expressed his gratitude to the middle-aged man until he got tired.
After watching Doctor Zhao leave, George hurried into the villa and walked straight to Anna's room, ignoring the two maids he had hired for the house.
He sat next to Anna for a while, watching her without any specific thoughts in his head.
George didn't know if Anna recognized him; he was just happy that she was alive.
He didn't even understand why he was so attached to her.
With that knowledge, though, George was extremely happy to be Anna's savior. He would continue to protect her from any harm that came her way, even if Anna pushed him away as she used to in the past.
