Chapter 14: Chapter 14: A new mission!

Once Blake and the others had gotten cleaned up, they met the commander and other warriors in the mess hall where they had been waiting for them.

Everyone went silent as Blake and the others walked into the hall, hearing only the squeaking of the door hinges through the silence.

"Here they are... The warriors of the hour!" The commander shouted, causing everyone to cheer.

"These three have proven their worth as warriors. Not only did they survive their first battle, but they also excelled! Wiping the floor with those filthy Goblin bastards!"

The other warrior cheered again, stopping once the commander raised his hand.

"And Drak. Our first dragon born in a generation. Dark defeated the Goblin leader and routed the remaining Goblins with his strength!" The commander said.

"For that. I salute you." He then said, pounding his fist against his chest, as did the other warriors in the hall, paying their respect to Drak.

"Now. Let the celebration begin!" The commander roared.

The other warriors all cheered and the feast began with everyone digging into the large amount of food that had been provided.

Blake and the others had also been introduced to their first experience with Kobold Mead, being forced to drink up by the others.

"Here, take it!" One of the warriors said, giving each of them a mug.

Blake had drunk lots of different alcohol back in his previous life, not seeing the harm before he took a swig.

"Add a boy!" The warriors cheered, watching as the three of them drank without complaint.

It was an acquired taste, seeming to only get better the more you drank, not being Blake's cup of tea. Still, he could see that both Nev and Surge were happy to drink plenty, with both of them eating and drinking as much as they could.

Nev looked as if he was going to pop, having stuffed his face so much. Surge on the other hand had gotten rather drunk and was currently engaged in an arm wrestling competition with some of the others, proving just how strong he was as he defeated everyone one after the other.

"Dark, get over here!" Surge yelled challenging him as his final opponent.

Blake had a feeling it was going to come to that, however, Nev stepped up and best him to it.

"You gotta take me on first, Surge!" He yelled, stummbling over to the arm wrestling table.

"Fine. Winner gets Drak." Surge said, holding his arm out in the ready position.

"Deal!" Nev said, taking his hand.

The two of them suddenly burst into full strength, each of them pushing and pulling as hard as they could.

Blake and the others watched, all laughing amd cheering for both of them.

However, the pair seemed to be even in strength, with neither of them budging an inch.

"Come on!"

"Finish him already!"

The celebration went on for most of the night, not that they could tell considering it was always dark inside of the dungeon.

Nev and Surge's arm wrestle had lasted hours until the match had been classed as a draw.

By the time Blake and the others left, they were all staggering and Nev had even been sick, not being able to handle the Mead causing both Blake and Surge to laugh so hard that Surge even fell over.

Blake couldn't remember the last time he had so much fun. So far in this new life, everything had been a fight for survival, then being kicked into a hellish training routine before facing the fight of his life, being the closest he had ever come to war.

Soon Blake and the others got back to their hut, with both Blake and Nev stumbling into bed before they passed out. Blake did the same, as he lay on his back, taking a moment to reflect on everything.

Blake had come so far during his years here, having gone through everything he had, he couldn't have never imagined it given the way he lived his life before. Everything had been so easy, so simple. Everything was given to you so long as you applied minimal effort you could be happy. Yet, most never were.

Here, everything was hard. Everything was difficult and nothing came easy. You had to work for everything you had, never having time to be sad or not, only focused on what had to be done. It certainly was a very different way of life, but it was his life now. And the only thing he could do was conquer it or submit.

The next day came rather quickly for Blake and the others, with Nev and Surge experiencing their first hangover.

"Here they are, come on boys rise and shine!" Two warrior Kobold whom Blake and the others had been partying with the night before said as they walked into their hut.

"Ah... My head." Nev said while he slowly sat up, trying to open his eyes.

Surge didn't fair much better but was at least able to stagger out of his bed.

"Looks like that Mead really did a number on you boys last night." One of them said, laughing at the state of them.

Blake on the other hand felt fine, having no effects of a hangover whatsoever thanks to his dragon belly ability.

Both of the warriors could see that Blake was fine, and could also see that his wings had grown a little more. The whole thing with him being a wing Kobold had been talked about all night, with all of the others being amazed, yet jealous at the same time. Still, the fact that he had been able to defeat an opponent that even the Commander had not been able to defeat had earned him respect, enough so that most had left him alone.

"Anyway, the commander wants to see the three of you." One of them then said.

"Make sure you hurry your arses up."

Blake knew why they were talking to them that way, after all, they were older and clearly saw themselves as superior. However, seeing that their levels were only 11 a piece, Blake knew he could kick both of their asses if he really wanted.

"Come on, we had better not keep him waiting," Blake said, getting a painful moan in agreement from both Surge and Nev.

With that, the group got up and gathered their things before heading out to the commander's quarters.

"Sir, Drak and the other new warriors have arrived." A Kobold said, announcing their arrival.

"It's about time." The commander said, getting up from his chair as they walked in.

"I see the three of you are a little worse for ware this morning." He said, cracking a joke.

If Blake remembered correctly, the commander had been one of the most drunk of all last night, however, he seemed fine standing before them now, truly a pro in the art of handling his drink.

"Well, you will get used to that." He said with a smirk, crossing his arms behind his back.

"Anyway, I have summoned you because I have a task for the three of you. Since you are now fully fledged warriors of the tribe, you are being given the responsibility of clearing out some of the lesser monsters around the dungeon." He said.

"We get to go back out into the dungeon?" Nev asked, seeming excited.

"That's right. Your job will be keeping the lesser monsters that get too close to our village." The commander said.

"Sounds simple enough," Surge said, not complaining.

Blake agreed, seeing this as more of a new guy's role while the others got the easy job of sitting around all day. Still, being tasked to kill other monsters in the dungeon would be a great way to test out his dragon belly without anyone asking to many questions.

"Alright, report to the gate squad before you leave. Oh, and if you come across any Goblins. Make sure to gut them." The commander said.

"Yes sir." All three of them said, saluting him before they dismissed themselves and headed off.

Blake, Nev and Surge returned to their hut, getting their gear prepared for their new mission, and making sure to pack their weapons and some supplies.

Blake would stick with his spear and sword while keeping his bow on his back like before. He could also see that Nev and Surge kept the same weapons, with Nev preferring the spear and shield and Surge the sword and bow.

While the others gathered their gear, Blake took the time to take a good look at his status screen, realizing he hadn't actually had a look since he defeated the Goblin leader.

Blake had received a whopping 3000 EXP and 4 skill points for completing all of those quests. He had levelled up twice and received a further two skill points, giving him a total of six.

I underestimated the power of this system... Blake said to himself, amazed at how fast he had been able to become strong with its help.

"Hey, you coming or what?" Nev asked, looking at Blake.

"Yeah," Blake said, shutting his status screen before heading off with the two of them through town.

As they made their way into the village, Blake couldn't help but notice the glances people were giving him. With everyone was murmuring and ogling at him as if he was famous or something.

"I wouldn't worry about it," Nev said.

"It's just, well no one has ever seen a Kobold with wings before." He said, laughing a little.

Blake could understand. After all, it was normal to stare at something you were not used to seeing., especially considering that it was so rare.

"Well, well. Look who showed up." A warrior who was on gate guard said as Blake and the others approached.

"I see you had fun last night." He said with a smirk.

"A little too much," Nev said, remembering having a drinking competition with this one and loosing badly.

"Well, you did good. Now just make sure you don't die out there in the dungeon. It's a scary place for a Kobold." He said, giving the order to open the gate.

Blake and the others watched as the wooden gate slowly opened reavling the path that led out of their village and into the wider dungeon.

"Now, have at it boys!" The guard said before he basically kicked them out, shutting the gate behind them.

"And don't come back until the end of my shift!" He yelled from the other side of the gate.
