Chapter 21: Chapter 21: The After math.

A week had now passed since Blake had defeated the Hobgoblin and scared off the Goblin hoard from the village. Those who had been wounded in the fight had been given treatment and time to heal from their wounds, and the whole village had held a large burial for those who had lost their lives defending the village, with many of the warriors having perished in the fighting.

Naturally, the rest of the village couldn't stop talking about Blake's evolution and how he had single-handedly defeated the Goblins, saving everyone, causing Blake to realize just how much stronger he had gotten.

Blake was being hailed as the hero of the village, not being able to go anywhere without everyone showing him huge amounts of respect and gratitude for his efforts.

He had even been upgraded out of the small shack he had been living in forever since he had begun his training to become a warrior, being given a nicer and larger house in the village.

Once Blake had gotten rid of the Goblin hoard and helped tend to the surviving warriors, he finally had the time to check out his new stats and abilities that had come with his evolution, making sure to take a good look at them.

All of Blake's abilities had increased by a huge amount, with his strength going up by 20 points and his agility up by 6. He had also noticed that he had gained a new unique skill called dragon breath, as well as the ability to fly, something he knew that would come in handy.

The system had been very helpful in explaining everything to him, something he had not had the time to listen to during his battle before.

Starting with his new dragon breath ability which basically allowed him to breathe fire, something he unlocked with his evolution, even having its own level as a unique skill.

The system also explained in more depth about his evolution and the line that was now available to him, meaning that he could continue to evolve as he grew stronger.

Blake had gone from a normal Kobold to a winged Kobold, being his first evolution that was unbeknown to him. Only those who possessed a large amount of dragon blood could become a winged Kobold, giving them access to a different line of evolution than other Kobolds. Such as the Dragon-fledgling/Dracon.

After that, he had the option to evolve into a Komoda or a Dragonborn, with the Dragonborn only being available to those who had become a Dracon first. It was all very confusing but Blake had spent a good amount of time asking the system many questions, wanting to know everything he could about it, finding out that there were indeed many evolution lines that a Kobold could take. Either following a warrior line, or even a magic line, telling Blake that they could indeed learn magic.

A few more days had gone by while the village tried to get to grips with what had happened due to the Goblin's attack. With a large number of the warriors having died, more of the hunter-class Kobolds had been forced to pick up the slack, taking up extra duties while the other remaining warriors recovered.

Both Commander Vatt and Chief Kolu had been injured in the battle and were now close to making a full recovery. Surge had also survived, not having a clue about anything that had transpired after his fight with the Hobgoblin, being extremely lucky that the falling rocks had missed him.

The elders of the village had now gathered to meet with Commander Vatt and Chief Kolu, wanting to discuss what would be the best course of action to take in the rebuilding of their village and people.

The chief elder had also invited Blake to the meeting, seeing that he was now the strongest Kobold in the whole village and the reason they were alive he thought it only right that he attend.

Blake made his way to the elder chambers where he had been asked to meet with the village council, being met by two warriors who were standing guard by the door.

"S-Sir!" Both of them said, quickly coming to attention for him.

Blake nodded to both of them before having to duck under the doorway to step inside the house, making his way through the hallway.

"I won't stand for it! Hero or not he is not on this council!" Kolu's voice yelled, echoing through the hall so that Blake could hear it.

"I don't think that is up to you." The elder said, being the first to notice that Blake had arrived.

"Please, come in, Drak." He said, causing the others to turn their attention to him, watching as he walked into the room, towering over them.

"D-Drak." Commander Vatt said, standing up in order to show his respect.

All of the other elders did the same apart from Kolu, who scoffed.

"Yes, welcome, Drak." He said.

"Sorry, I'm not interrupting am I?" Blake asked, walking over to the table before he took a seat, sitting higher than everyone else.

"N-Not at all." One of the elder Kobold said, unsure how to address him.

"Good," Blake said, knowing that he wouldn't have cared if he were or not.

"I'm glad you could make it Drak." The head elder said with a smile.

"Thank you for inviting me elder," Blake said in return.

"On to business then," Kolu said as he cleared his throat wanting to get started, getting a nod from the others to continue.

"With the large amount of warriors who lost their lives in the fighting. Well, it is clear to see that we are sorely lacking manpower and the ability to defend our village." Kolu said.

"Yes, but with Drak here, why the sudden need for more warriors?" One of the elders said.

"After all, he did by himself what 100 warriors could not." He added.

Kolu had to bite his tongue knowing that speaking out would get him nowhere.

"I agree. We should focus more on hunting so that we can provide our village with enough food to get through the winter." One of the other elders said.

"We must train more warriors, we cannot rely solely on Drak's newly discovered strength to protect us." Kolu responded, which made the others grumble and start to chatter amongst themselves.

"What do you think we should do, Drak?" The head elder suddenly asked, causing everyone to go silent for a moment, wondering what he would say.

Blake was sat with his arms crossed over his chest silently laughing to himself, seeing that politics were clearly the same in every world.

"What would I do? Well, I do have a few ideas." Blake asked.

"Yes, after all you are the first to have evolved in many many years, and are currently the strongest in the whole village, please tell s your thoughts." The elder said, causing Blake's ears to prick up a little.

"Wait a second, are you saying that others have evolved before me?" Blake asked.

The elders remained silent with some of them looking at Kolu and then back toward the head elder, not sure how Kolu would react to his actions.

"Yes. Many years ago, there was another who achieved evolution becoming much stronger than the rest of us."

"What happened to him?" Blake asked, wondering why he was not here.

"He left taking others with him as he headed out to explore the dungeon and set up another village that he became the ruler of." The head elder said, telling the story.

"Left? But why?" Blake asked, not understanding.

"You know our customs yes? That the strongest of us will rule." Commander Vatt suddenly said, deciding to speak up.

"Well, the one who evolved was none other than the chiefs son." He said, causing Kolu to scoff.

"I think that is enough." Kolu said, interrupting them, not wanting to bring up his family history.

"He has a right to know, lord Kolu." One of the other elders said, objecting to his interruption.

"Only the strongest of us can rule, however, the chiefs son could not bring himself to fight his own father and left the village, taking his followers with him." The head elder then said, continuing the story.

"No one has seen or heard from him since." He then said, finishing the tail.

"I see..." Blake said, understanding that he didn't want to battle his father for the right to rule. However, he saw no problem with such a thing, since Kolu wasn't his father.

"In that case, I guess I have the right to challenge too." Blake said, causing everyone in the room to remain silent as all eyes fell on his before they turned their heads toward Kolu.

"That is correct." The head elder said.

"This is outrageous!" Kolu suddenly yelled as he slammed his fist on the table.

"Strong you may be, but what do you know of running a village and governing its people?" Kolu said, clearly angry.

"I did everything I could to achieve this power, and now that I have its time I started doing things my way." Blake said, staring at Kolu with a powerful aura, meaning business all of a sudden.

"Y-You dare challenge me!" Kolu shouted, trying his best not to back down.

"Commander, have this whelp taken away at once!" Kolu said, also calling for the guards.

"I'm afraid I cannot do that sir." Vatt said, surprising Kolu as he lowered his head.

"Drak is a hero who saved the whole village and even managed to evolved. He has earnt the right to challenge. If that is his wish, there is nothing anyone can do." Vatt said, standing by the Kobolds ways, knowing there was nothing he could do about it anyway, even if he wanted to.

Kolu snarled and looked around the room, seeing that the elders also agreed with Vatt, keeping their mouths shut.

"Well, lord Kolu, you have been challenged for the right to rule over our village. Will you except the challenge or forfeit leadership?" The head elder said, taking him by surprise.

"You... You planned this all along." Kolu said, staring dagger at the head elder, knowing this is the reason he invited Blake here today.

Blake watched with his arms still crossed over his chest as Kolu grit his teeth, knowing there was nothing he could do about it, already knowing that he was no match for Blakes overwhelming strength.

"Very well... I guess I have no choice. I accept your challenge!" Kolu shouted, taking everyone by surprise.

"S-Sir?" Vatt asked.

Blake smiled and stood up, towering over Kolu who stood to meet his challenge, his pride not allowing him to surrender without a fight.

"B-But sir! You know that this is a fight to the death!" Commander Vatt said, looking at Kolu like he was mad.

"And that is exactly why I cannot. No, will not back down." Kolu said before he looked Blake in the eye.

"Very well, the challenge is met, make the preparations!" The head elder shouted, clapping his hands together as he summoned the guards.

"The battle to determine our next leader is set. May the gods be with you both."
