Chapter 4: Chapter 4 : Magical Beast! (2)

[Year 27 Months 5]

While Noah was taking a nap, a strange premonition appeared in his mind.

There were magical beasts trampling on the bodies of elves, and humans. Titanic beasts that advanced in the deep waters. Heroes who came out of temples, and who fought terrifying beasts. Dwarves who tried to fight the beasts, without success, before perishing. Then... A wave of monster that was heading towards a simple city, and a small tree that was at the end of it. Noah could see the dead children in front of him, Professors Azra, Rey and Dona tear to death, and the inhabitants devour, before he ended up killed, too.

Regaining her mind, Noah was shocked by the massacring scene, and popularizing that he had just seen!

He didn't understand what dream he had just had, or why he did it. At least he had sensed bad news, and a precursor to his own death! He was to present to the inhabitants of Cartel Village his disturbing premonition.

Two months later, he met with the village chief in person. Mama. The old elf, and the oldest in the village, appeared before his body, looking at him with respect, and with gentle eyes, looking at him politely.

"O Spirit Tree, what is your attention worth?"

"I recently had a dream," Noah announced, shocking the villagers. In elven culture, spirit trees felt the dangers that might happen to them soon, in the near future.

At the same time, since every Spirit Tree was endowed with the same premonition, all the Kingdom was warned of the fall. Making incomprehensible, the hierarchy, and the current order of the people.

And Noah, was probably also concerned. "A wave of monsters will soon sweep through our region, and no one will be able to stop it," he warned.

"Have you seen our village decimated, and the regions of our kingdom destroyed?" asked the elder earnestly. Noah nods, made the locals noisy. "It wasn't just the kingdom that would be swept away... I have also watched, humans, dwarves, and other races living in other lands, suffer enormous damage. »

Mama, the eldest of the village, sighed. "How are we going to make mama?" a young man asked anxiously. "We should ask for help directly from the jurisdiction center of the kingdom... »

A young woman intervened. "Why ask the kingdom for help? According to the Spirit Tree, the Kingdom will also fall! »

The inhabitants were all anxious, and could not find an answer.

The villagers accepted a consensus, and wanted to wait for the arrival of the king's messengers, to define their next actions. Noah had warned them to hurry, and take quick action, but they didn't listen.

He felt frustrated, and fell asleep, tired of having such a dream.

[Year 28 months 0]

A few months later.

Uniformed soldiers appeared, and entered the entrance of the village. Noah, who was a few hundred meters from the village, was able to listen to some conversations, spreading his vines, and his roots further.

The Captain, who was wearing a faithful medal on his chest, approached the eldest. He took out a parchment from his bag, and read it in front of all the inhabitants. "This treaty reaches all the people of Wood Kingdom. To all the inhabitants, all the villagers, all the citizens of this kingdom, the obligation, and the duty of a citizen is to enlist, and to send to each place, a total corresponding to the population, twenty fighting for the support of war! »

The eldest was baffled and refused the treaty. "Wait! How is it possible to enlist such a force, in such a short time? We do not have the means to send twenty men into battle, especially when we are in a region that is weakened, and has a great risk of magic beast attack! »

Captain Elven was angry. "The Kingdom will fall according to the predilections of the Spirit Trees! The maintenance of the Royal Order is more important than the people! All must accept the decree, and the King's orders! No exceptions! »

The inhabitants were stunned by the request of their kings! They wanted a general mobilization, and an obligation for every village, and city to provide warriors for the nation! In their own cases, removing the fighters from their villages, considered them dead!

A man came out of the crowd, and spoke. "We are also living beings, and important to the nation! How can we live, if we all die?! Our village will fall!"

The captain who listened to him, scoffed. "So what? You are inhabitants of Wood Kingdom, and indirectly under the jurisdiction of Wood's family, King Sheilef IV. You must, and had the obligation, to provide warriors for the protection of the nation! »

The Elder was stunned by the tenacity of the man in front of her. She gnashed her teeth, thinking about the possibilities she could offer in exchange for a withdrawal of her own fighters. "We can provide logistical support to the army! And also maps of the surroundings, and the region that could help our nation's army tremendously! »

The man refused again. "No refusal! It is a Royal decree, and no one can refuse the King's request! To refuse is to disobey royalty, and indirectly to become traitors! »

The Elder was hesitant. "Our village must discuss! Wait a bit, please! The Elder backed off, and the villagers joined the discussion. Some loudly shouted, denouncing an injustice, and some were logical, and optimistic. Thinking it was only temporary.

Finally, after various discussions, it was Mama, the Elder, who had the final decision. She nodded, and Captain Elven left, who continued to wait for them. "You have to send your fighters within three months! Each fighter must be present, and on time! Any failure to represent Cartel Village will be considered traitors, and placed on the blacklist! »

The villagers shook their heads. "Mama, it's impossible! We're all going to die! And even if it is only a mobilization, the women and children in the back will perish as predicted by the Spirit Tree! »

The Elder could no longer hold on, and asked hopefully. "Spiritual Tree, advise us!"

Residents also called. "Yes! Spirit Tree, please decide our case! We will only trust you! »

Noah was confused. How could these elves trust him, betting on their own lives? Were the Spirit Trees so close, and confidant to the elves? He didn't understand, but answered anyway.

He announced himself, and the elves listened. "I've told you all along. Protect, and stay in the city. The Kingdom is destined to fall, and sink... Eventually, the risk of destruction is likely, and too dangerous for small towns. It is better to stay, and prepare for the invasion. »

"But how can we do it? You predicted our destruction, and our slaughter! And we are sure that we would be touched by magical beasts! How can we protect ourselves? The army can no longer help us! »

The Elder replied as well. "It's a wise decision, Spiritual Tree, but how can we continue, with so little means at our disposal?" she sighed.

"Unfortunately, there's not much you can do," he also complained.

In the end, the locals agreed. "We will follow your thoughts. We will start barricading ourselves, and protecting ourselves. »

Then the elves withdrew, and returned to their cities.

[Year 28 months 1]

The inhabitants of Cartel Village mobilized, and began to deforest part of the forest that surrounded the small mountain. The children joined, and began to carry various rocks, and meats that the hunters harvested, in order to help them.

The men raised, and cut the logs, before rowing them, one on top of the other, then building pillars, to support each tree trunk, before gathering them, to form a wall a few meters high.

Enough to prevent the smallest monsters from climbing the wooden wall.

[Year 28 months 2]

Strange noises appeared in the forest, before disappearing the next morning. All the inhabitants tensed, and the women and children buried themselves underground in fear. After a few hours, brave men came out, and approached his body.

Noah warned them that they had appeared, before leaving, and looked carefully at Cartel Village.

The men left anxious, and reported this as a kind of scout, serving to know their geographical positions, and their defenses. Fortunately, the next few days were still quiet.

[Year 28 months 3]

The mandatory mobilization passed, and no one left to fill the quota of Cartel Village, forcing them now to become fugitives. But no one had the thoughts for such things. The scouts came back yesterday, and warned that our territory would be attacked in a few months.

The villagers tensed, and began to prepare even more intensely than usual.

[Year 28 months 9]

A great stride to trample the ground, shaking the whole forest. There were no more animals inside, and several monsters appeared.

Inside this invasion, deer, bipedal monsters, as well as wolves, and praying mantises of large sizes appeared, hurtling down the hills, and heading towards the city.

Quickly, the men who were guarding the surroundings, sounded the alarm, and everyone took their positions, taking spears in their hands, and the mages in the back. "The beasts are coming...!"

The monsters arrived, and the fights followed in a normal way. Cartel Village had a population of about 1200 men and women, while the monsters numbered in the thousand.

Fortunately, the little monsters at the front of the invasion could not jump over the fortifications, and were easily killed, before another row of more intimidating monsters arrived.

The deer with huge horns, and black, and red fur began to charge towards the fortifications, and destroy some logs, before receding in pain because of the spells of the elven mages, and the spears of the elves.

Monsters came out, and strange shields appeared on their arms. Strangely, these bipedal monsters could withstand spells, and spear attacks, and were able to protect their peers, continuing to charge on the fortification.

They tried to fight as much as they could, but couldn't hold out long, before the fortification collapsed after several charges, and the monsters began to invade the city.

Houses were set on fire by monsters who could breathe fire from their mouths, and magical deer began charging at elves, impaling and killing the people they caught.

The elves continued to defend themselves, despite the deaths of their comrades, in order to preserve enough time for the inhabitants to flee to the back of the city. Women and children fleeing could hear the voices of men crying out in pain, and some could even hear their husbands, and fathers screaming behind them. "Haaa...!!"

Despite the insults, and the sadness, they continued to run to the Spirit Tree. "Keep running, we must flee the monsters, and survive!" shouted the Eldest.

Unfortunately, monsters followed them, and soon caught up with them. "Sister Christine, accompany the children to the Spirit Tree, I will delay them as much as I can!" she said, before turning around and preparing spells.

Sister Christine was a fellow mercenary who had supported and accompanied Mama before moving to Cartel Village. She was also one of the people who understood it best. She nodded, and continued to run. "You have to survive! Wait, and I'll come back to pick you up! »

The spells fired, and countless lights lit up their backs, while they could see a Tree standing majestically on a small hill. "Spiritual Tree, please protect us!"

Noah nodded, and began to surround the children, with his vines in order to hide them from the monsters. Quickly, the animals arrived, and approached. Christine was frightened, and sad.

The announcement of the arrival of the magical beasts, meant that Mama was already dead, and had resisted as much as she could, to slow down the beasts. She wanted to come back, but it was already too late.

The first beasts that arrived were the magic deer that were the fastest. They approached her body, and saw Christine who was still up, outside her vines.

They charged, and ran in his direction. Noah was quick to react, and start using his offensive spells. [Vigne Strike] x2

He impaled two magic deer that charged unconsciously, before falling back to the ground. The survivors stopped, and cautiously looked at their surroundings, thinking that an elf mage was still in the group.

Unfortunately, there was no more mage, and Noah kept launching attacks. [Vine Strike] x4. The four deer died, and tumbled down the hill, before falling further.

He gained three levels. [Level 33]

Later, other beasts appeared. This time, they were bipedal beasts that ran with their long legs, and their arms in the form of shields. Again, they spotted Christine through her vines, and approached cautiously in relation to the deer.

They had seen the corpses of the deer, and knew that mages were still alive. Or so they thought. And they had shields of flesh that protected them from attacks, increasing their confidence despite their caution.

As they reached his attack range, Noah waited calmly and let them get close enough that the children were afraid, and Christine thought the Spirit Tree could no longer protect them.

The bipedal beasts jumped on the children, and Noah launched attacks. [Vigne Strike] x10. Because they had limbs that protected them, they were overconfident, and died.

Eventually, the corpses fell lifeless to the ground, and no magical beasts appeared, after a while. "I don't think any beast is chasing you. Stay here, a time to rest. »

Christine nodded, and the children sat for an entire day. Noah fed them with his fruit, and they continued to monitor the surroundings. Just like that, a day passed.
