Chapter 9: Team 2!

"Good..." Koji nodded, he stared at Minato for a moment before he addressed all of them.

"As you might have noticed, I'm not from a clan. As most of you belong to different clans it is a political dilemma on who your mentor should be. I was just the unfortunate one to be handled the responsibility of coddling you brats." Koji spoke, his eyes kept sweeping through the genin's faces taking in their expressions.

"One of the main reasons I was selected was the basics, I'm not here to teach you how to throw around A rank jutsus, your clansmen are going to teach you that. I'm here to ensure you don't forget the basics in your power-hungry state..." Koji finished.

'He's testing our patience I guess, and the Inuzuka fell for it...' Hikaru thought as he glanced at the growling Inuzuka, he wasn't sure what was going on in his head but growling at your superior wasn't going to change anything.

"Good, now first we'll start with physical conditioning, let's see where everyone is at," Koji spoke as he began instructing the genin group to form a single line and then he began running with them around the boundary of the training ground.

Hikaru didn't have any problem following the group, the pace was slightly slower than the run they did when they first arrived at the training ground from the academy.

'Most likely a test for our endurance, he is maintaining the speed which Hatake can just handle...' Hikaru thought as they completed a lap.

One lap continued to 2 and then 2 turned to 10. Slowly Hatake's pace started dropping and he began lagging behind, Koji still maintained his previous pace so did the rest of the genin.

As soon as their group lapped Hatake for the first time during lap 12, Koji spoke, "Kame Hatake, 6th... rest in the center and wait for us to be finished."

After that, Koji increased his speed which caught the genin group to be caught off guard. The exercise went on for another 20 laps and in the end, only two people remained, Hyuga Hiashi and Uchiha Hikaru.

Minato stared at Hikaru who easily kept on the pace at a speed he was sure he wouldn't be able to reach. He was ranked 3rd among their group and the Rookie of the Year for the first time felt the pressure.

Hiashi stopped after he completed lap 50, his body was screaming at him to stop, and when he looked at Hikaru easily keeping pace the psychological pressure was getting to him.

He closed his eyes as he took a deep breath, "Uchiha Hikaru, 1st..." He heard Koji murmur and then he stopped.

All three of them walked toward the center together and as soon as they regrouped with the rest of the squad Koji spoke, "Alright, I hope you guys are ready for the next test, Minato Namikaze vs Hyuga Hiashi."

Hikaru was amused as he saw Hiashi's stoic face finally broke as he looked at Koji with an outraged expression before he walked and stood in front of Minato.

"The first test was an endurance test, during a battle, endurance is one of the key factors that mostly determines the result of fights if both opponents are of equal strength," Koji explained.

'...during a war, he's teaching us how to navigate a battlefield.' Hikaru deduced as he saw Minato and Hiashi dashing at each other. The effect of the first test was apparent on Hiashi as he was somehow slower than Minato even though his top speed was higher.

"So even though you persisted in trying to defeat the Uchiha, you lost sight of your own body and pushed it beyond its limit." Koji chided, and his remarks caused Hiashi to flatter as he lost his balance and was kicked away by Minato.

"Winner Namikaze Minato, rank 2nd." Koji declared as Hiashi huffed on the ground.

"Remember during battle you almost never will fight against just one person. A battlefield is everchanging, there are so many things that could influence your battle, and focusing on just one opponent might be the end for not just you but also for your whole team." Koji explained.

He started walking before he stood in front of Hikaru, he got into a neutral stance and Hikaru quickly examined his posture. His stance was low and his body weight was on his paws.

'Is this my test...' Hikaru thought as he got into the starting stance of Interceptor fist.

'Sharingan...' Hikaru thought as he dodged back, Koji right now wasn't as fast as Hikaru but after each attack, he kept increasing his speed. The Sharingan allowed Hikaru to easily keep pace with Koji's irregular rhythm as he tried to counterattack.

'His taijutsu style is weird, I can't completely catch him.' Hikaru thought, by now they had exchanged several moves by now.

Koji on the other hand was amazed at Hikaru's taijutsu, there were no holes in his stances and transitions, he was thinking about teaching Hikaru some humility but it didn't work. He even threw a jab at his fastest speed but even that was easily avoided.

Hikaru realized that Koji was quite a lot faster than him, his eyes tracked the position of the rest of the genins as he leaped forward. Koji was startled by Hiakru's sudden advance so he dodged to the right, as soon as Koji was away from the direct line of fire Hikaru changed his right jab into a tiger seal as he molded his chakra.

'Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu'

A small stream of condensed fire blew from Hiakru's mouth and it quickly morphed into a Fireball the size of a car. Koji looked at the ball of fire blasting toward him and he swiftly used a substitution jutsu to get out of the way.

~Boom~

The fire jutsu collided with the ground and exploded, as black smoke clouded his field of view Hikaru dodged backward content with maintaining his distance advantage for the time being. The Sharingan was not able to see through physical objects like the Byakugan so Hikaru wasn't sure where Koji was, of the 6 genins present only the two Hyuga were able to see where Koji was hiding.
