Chapter 4: Chapter 4

(A/N: Still in Riveria's POV from last chap by the way!)

Despite my surprise, I was able to defend my unaware student using my robe. My robe made from the scared royal tree of the High Elf forest easily dispelled Cain's magic. I saw his face go from anxiety to relief when I defended Lefiya.

{Cain's POV}

I saw Riveria act swiftly to defend Lefiya and aid me to not ruin my first impression of the highly impressionable elf girl. Then  I realized, why was she there? I didn't hear or see her enter, was I so engrossed in my attempts to form magic that I just didn't notice her?

"When did she get here?" I ask Riveria while pointing to Lefiya obviously confused.

"Lefiya here arrived about half an hour ago Cain." Riviera said matter of factly.

"Ah, uh well I'm sorry for earlier and for not noticing" I say while giving a small bow showcasing my apology. After I was done with my bow I extended my hand.

"Well, I'm Cain, I'll be Riveria's student for the next while, I hope we get along" Flashing what I hoped was a bright smile. Lefiya did seem a bit taken aback and engrossed in my appearance before I saw her cheeks redden slightly and she started playing with her signature pink dress while mumbling.

"Pleasure studying with you too" I think I heard her say, withdrawing my hand I turned to Riveria who was watching the interaction with a smile on her face.

"I think I know how to use my magic, can I use it against real quick?" She nodded giving me consent to use her as a sort of target dummy but it's not like I can even come close to hurting her. I positioned a single one of my hands in front of me, aimed at her and gathered mind into my hand then the piece I was missing for my previous attempts a direction. I wanted a fireball to fly to Riveria.

I witnessed my creation, a fireball, rocket through the sky only for it to peter out when it came into contact with Riveria's robe. I heard a gasp behind me from Lefiya. I turned around and looked at her with a questioning face.

"Uhmm I-I-I-I didn't exp-p-pect for it to actually be chantless magic" Lefiya stumbled at first but stabilized herself later.

"I'm also quite impressed with that progress Cain, not everyone can do this kind of thing on their own." I earned praise from Nine Hells herself, which felt good, but I'm not satisfied with today

The rest of the study session went off without a hitch, it was mostly Riveria coaching me on how to better utilize my mind and her breaking a bad habit that I had already developed, it was to close my eyes to manipulate my mind from inside my body, by the very end of the class I was able to only do it once.

Riviera said it was always better to keep an eye on the opponent in a battle I could see the logic in that so I followed her advice, she is the person with countless years of dungeon experience.

When the session was over I headed to my room for the night, the little kid in me could not stop practicing magic, so I went until I fainted.

I woke up groggily until I realized, I had sword practice with Ais in the morning, and I went until late with magic training before passing out, did I miss it? I ask myself as I move away the blinds revealing, a still dark sky. Phew!

I made my way to the training area, and on my way there I bumped into Ais.

"Oh, Well hello there!" I say, Ais meets my words with a nod and continues on her way, I go to her side and walk with her.

We were walking mostly in silence, Ais did seem like the person to appreciate it, so I didn't want to disrupt. I was surprised when the usually silent Sword Princess was the one to start the conversation between us two.

"How was it with Riveria earlier?" Ais asked me, I was a bit surprised but I tried to show off a bit in my answer. I conjured up two fireballs into my hands, showing them to her before extinguishing them with my hand, which I learned in my bedroom. I am not affected by the heat of my fire.

"I made great progress today, I'm hoping I can do something similar here today" I say enthusiastically.

"I appreciate your enthusiasm" Ais says, to my shock, I thought she was just going to nod again, well it's a pleasant surprise

When we arrived at the training area Ais picked up one of the wooden swords, I went to do the same.

"No, use a real sword" Ais said

"Wouldn't that be dangerous for you though?" I asked

" I won't get hit anyway" Ais said without a hint of pride in her voice, she knew that I stood no match for her, which was fair. So I picked up a real sword and swung it around noting that It didn't weigh like anything

We took our places in front of each other I took my stance and waited for Ais' signal, which was just a nod.

I rushed over to her, but she stayed still waiting for my approach, I cautiously swung my blade making sure to not put much force into it, when Ais easily dodged and countered I was able to switch the direction of my blade to protect myself, I jumped away from Ais to reset the momentum of the fight.

I stood strong and faced down Ais, I waited in a ready position for her to engage, she seemed to make to decision immediately and went after me. I was left a small amount of time to prepare for her attack, I decided to match her strike, but my strike was met with a feint, and I got a wooden sword to the head. Ouch. I put my hand onto my forehead where Ais struck me.

"Did I hurt you?" Ais asked I think I detected some concern in her normally stoic voice.

"Nah, nah I'm good, I was just really fooled, let's go again." She nodded in response.

We had countless small bouts, and most of the time they had ended because of a stupid error on my part or because of Ais' superior swordplay, I really did not stand a chance, but I was able to last slightly longer with each spar. We were in a spar when I noticed the sun just started to rise. My realization was met with a wooden sword slash to the face, knocking me down. I held my cheek and looked at the perpetrator.

"Meanie, I was enjoying the view" I say as I playfully glare at Ais.

"No taking your eye off the battle." Ais says in response, I agree, but that was just rude. I was taken out of my thoughts when I heard chatting from around the corner.

"Do you think he'll be here?" I heard a feminine voice say, this one sounded a bit childish and wild.

"They did say that he'll be training with Ais here at sunrise." I heard another feminine voice say, this one was more like an older sister type.

I was looking in the direction of the voices, and when they turned the corner, I saw two amazonesses, I identified them as Tiona and Tione immediately, it's not like there are many others that fit the criteria.

"Ah! He is here!" Tiona said with a shocked face

"Don't mind us we'll be watching" Tione said, maybe one of the executives sold my existence out, well it's not like I can control them. I just looked at Ais for her confirmation, as I expected from Ais she just gave her signature nod in response.

We quickly moved on to our next spar, during the spar I noticed some predatory glances coming from their direction, but I elected to ignore them for now and focus my everything on the person in front of me.

I still lost.

After my loss, Tiona spoke up.

"Ais, can I fight him, pleasepleaseplease, I'll go super easy I promise" she asks while practically begging. Ais nods.

I feel betrayed. I get up and dust myself off from the previous bout. Tiona approaches me.

"Heya there, I'm Tiona, that's my sister Tione" she points at Tione watching from afar.

"Nice to meet you two, I'm Cain, just became an adventurer yesterday" What I said seemed to surprise Tiona even more.

"So you were never in a Familia before this one?" Tiona asks

"Nope!" I say with a smile.

"I'm even more hyped to fight you now, by the way, I'll be fighting with my fists" Tiona adds, I nod and back away and get ready for a signal to start.

Ais gives the signal to start, and immediately after Tiona's face appears right in front of mine, I don't get surprised and instead bring my sword to defend against her fist.

To my surprise, her fist just passes through my sword and shatters it. Due to this unforeseen circumstance, I was flung into the air by her fist, I was able to stick the landing fine. I considered forfeiting right there and then, but for some reason, my instincts were telling me to continue, so I listened to them.

I rushed at Tiona to her surprise, she knew she used too much force on the last punch, and she was surprised I was still conscious let alone fighting.

As I rushed her I prepared fireballs and threw them at TIona, stunning her until I arrived, when I arrived in front of her I tried my hand at a couple of hand-to-hand combat techniques I had seen in movies in my previous life, covering any mistakes I knew I made with a fireball aimed at Tiona.

The only problem was the person I was doing it to, they were not at my level when things didn't go their way, and instinct took over, with that said the last thing I remember was Tiona dodging one of my Fireballs intent of locking in place for my next strike.
