Chapter 32: The END

CultureBringer: Alright before you read the original chapter I want to let you know that although this is a great fanfic, its ending isn't really satisfactory, I was personally disappointed by it, I hope you enjoyed reading this fic and that you can find a better one soon.

the final Author's note below is the message the original Author wrote.

=======================================

Final Author's Note: Alright, we gotta talk.

When I wrote the first chapter of this story, it was around 4:28am on a school night. I was a depressed, anxiety-ridden insomniac getting driven half-insane by unfinished homework and a crappy academic enviroment.

This story was part escapism, part boredom, and part a genuine desire to tell a story.

And... it worked so much better than I ever dared to hope or expect. As of the time of me writing this, this in #4 on the Spider-Man stories going from the amount of favourites, and #2 going from the amount of followers. I never thought so many people would want to read my writing, and I will never be able to truly express my gratitude.

But two years came and went.

I'm in a much, much different place, geographically and mentally, from when I started this story. I don't know if I'm doing better or worse, but the protagonist of this story is based on a version of me that I long since left behind, and I don't think I can connect with that any more.

I'm going to, under the following line, write down everything I had planned for the story, so as to eliminate any feelings of curiosity as to how it could have gone. Everything. Up to the ending.

But I doubt that'll be enough. And I'm sure I'm going to get a crapton of angry reviews.

And that's fair.

And I'm sorry.

Best of luck in all future endeavours, dear readers, and again, thank you.

It meant more than I could ever express to have entretained you for as long as I did.

Bye.

Alright, I'll cut this down story arc by story arc.

Doctor Doom's Time Adventure: This is the one I had the most planned out. Jake, Peter, Kamala, Michelle, Johnny and Flash all go to The Bar with No Name (actually a nightclub) to listen to Gwen's band. Jake tells Flash that's they're Spider-Man, since fuck it, everyone else knows, and Peter, who's already mad about what Jake pulled with S.H.I.E.L.D. has a discussion about how careless they are with their secret identity. Jake leaves, and while they're off sulking, they stop a criminal from breaking into a museum and stealing a jar containing a shard of Excalibur. Doom, who also wanted the shard, shows up just in time to see Jake grab the Shard and be bonded with it. They travel around in time to find other shards to stop the end of the world, there was this cool fight scene with dark elves I had in mind, and it ends with Doom owing Jake a favour and Peter still being pissed at him, making Jake decide to stay at his house for a while.

King's Revenge: Kingpin, while still inside prison, discovers Jake's identity and sends assassins after all their friends and family. Peter and Jake's parents all die, a long with a few minor characters. Jake sneaks into jail, tears off one of Kingpin's arms and breaks his jaw and spirit. The remaining Parkers move away with Witness Protection, with some grudge against Jake for pretty much getting Peter killed. Jake moves into the Baxter Building at Johnny's insistance, horribly depressed but still doing Spider-Man work.

Young Avengers Superarc: This is one of two superarcs in the story. Basically, a bunch of shorter arcs happen in this, tied together by the theme of Spider-Man's time in the Young Avengers.

-Assemble: Red Skull got the plans for the Cape drug, and improved them. Tries to take over the U.S., starting by New York (of course) with an army of superhumans. Jake, desperate for something to keep their mind away from their role in Peter's death, puts together a team with Ms. Marvel, Human Torch, Loki, America Chavez, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop) and Illyana (going by Sorceress) against them, then makes it permanent.

-Time for Heroics: Kang the Conqueror tried to recruit his younger self. Said younger self refused, escaped, and is looking to the Avengers for help. They're wary, but since this is a blatant ripoff of the original Young Avengers storyline, Spider-Man takes him for his word and accepts the job.

-All in Ghoul Fun: This isn't important to the story, but I'm so proud of that pun. Anyways, Hood (the Marvel bad guy) decided he wants to be taken seriously, so he makes an army of the dead to take over the U.S. with. Jake, who'd been dreading Halloween, has a great time.

-Naughty List: Santa's dead. While Loki and America Chavez investigate, Jake takes over the role. It's a huge mess.

-House of Spider: House of M, but with the team and stuff. Basically Jake has an awful time and has to deal with losing Peter a second time. Very traumatized.

-Of a Lizard's Venom: After almost dying on a fight with the Lizard, leaving him in an even worse mental state, Spider-Man finally hangs up the tights and Jake takes time to be Jake. They come back when J. Jonah Jamison's son almost crashes his space shuttle on re-entry, earning a begrudging 'thanks' from J.J.J. and finding Venom. Originally getting along fine with the Symbiote, Jake realizes that being bonded to them is making Venom more violent, as they keep pushing their issues out on him, so they give the Symbiote to Flash and deal with stuff on their own. Also, they start dating Michelle in this arc. Maybe. I didn't plan that part too finely.

-Fun and Games: The Grand Master challenges Earth's strongest for the right to rule Earth. Basically a tournament arc and an excuse to have the Young Avengers fight the Avengers

-Bop the Snake to Save the Earth: Jormung-however you write it wants to eat the world, and plans to use Loki to do it. The whole arc is about Loki choosing what kind of person they wanna be.

-Party: Just like three or so chapters dedicated to a Holiday party with the Avengers because I realized that whole year was going to be insane for the characters and they needed a break.

-Tin Man: Ultron attacks. That's all I've got on my notes for this one. Guess I just wanted a cool robot fight? Also, the Michelle relationship ends around here, amiacably.

-Changes: The Accords are being looked at more closely, which is something the Young Avengers had been pushing for. Also, HIVE attacks. I think I was supposed to tie the two things together somehow? The notes on this superarc are really old, guys.

-Sinister: The Sinister Six (made up mostly from Spidey's badguys, with help from the rest's gallery) want the Young Avengers dead. I hadn't decided what the roster was, but w/e.

-Starlads: The Kree Empire launch a shadow attack on Earth. Just an excuse to introduce the Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel. A casual relationship with Loki would start around here.

-Witching Hour: A cult of black magicks want to use Illyana to end the world. The Young Avengers stand against them.

-Santa's Little BAMFs: Santa wants to put Krampus in the ground once and for all. He enlists the Young Avengers. Pure, gratuitous, holiday-themed violence. Very dumb. I almost regret not writing it.

-New Day: The Accord Reforms finally go through. Also, HIVE attacks again. I really wish I remembered what they wanted with the Accords. Also-also, the relationship between Loki and Jake stops being casual.

-Evolve or Die: Morlum appears. Jake makes a small breakthrough in connecting with the Great Web of Fate, almost dies, figures out how to fight back, almost dies again but takes out Morlum, and gets dragged through half of New York's streets face-first. Not in that order. Sidenote: Jake gets a job as an English teacher, after it's all done.

-Sunflowering: Rumors appear of someone calling themselves 'Spider-Kid'. Wait, why am I making a mystery of this? It's Miles. Miles Morales shows up, and Jake takes him under their wing as a sidekick/apprentice while investigating where Miles got his powers.

-War: Thanos comes knocking.

-The End: Another party arc. After this, the Young Avengers disband since they become official Avengers. Also, they're mostly in their twenties, so it was getting a bit ridiculous to call themselves the 'Young' Avengers.

Clone Saga: Put down those pitchforks. I'm not going to write it and it wasn't going to be so bad. Jake gets framed for murder, turns out Hydra stole the formula for Cape and the vial of Jake's blood, so now there's a bunch of Spider Clones that got beefed up with Cape. And since they all have about as much claim to the Great Web of Fate as Jake, Spidey has to kill them all to earn the full right to their powers. All this while on the run from the law. Jake does, and they get the full Spidey Powers.

Ol' Uncle Tony's Holiday Adventure: As an apology for thinking they were guilty, Tony takes Jake on an adventure. They have an awful time.

Savvy Villains: My take on the Superior Foes of Spider-Man comic, where we follow a bunch of minor enemies of Spider-Man on the job of their lifetime. Also, hints about the next arc in the background.

Superior Spider: Doc Ock takes over Jake's body. It's a mess, he gets found out almost immidiately because come on, and Jake barely saves his life, under agreement that Octavius never shows up again and dedicates himself to being a hero.

Happy Days Superarc: This one I don't have planned out at all. It's basically the life of Jake balancing being Spider-Man and Jake Fletcher. Nothing too big or important, but regular stuff.

Secret Wars: The world ends, Doom becomes god, and yadda-yadda. This is the final arc. After this, the story is meant to end on a note about Jake passing the mantle of Spider-Man to Miles, then retiring because after kicking God Doom's ass, there's not much left for him to do and also he's got more trauma in his brain than every veteran ever combined.

Despite the whole 'constantly traumatizing the protagonist based on myself in a worrying display of the workings of my mind' bit, I wanted the story to be hopeful, because that's what Spider-Man's story always meant to me, and what I wanted it to mean to others.

I wanted Jake, like Peter, to be someone that took the blows that life dealt out becuase that's life, and because you can take the blows. Anyone can. Everyone can.

Even if you feel you can't, I promise it's possible. And I wrote this at a time when I didn't feel it.

And maybe that's why I'm giving up on this story. Because now I know it to be true, so I don't need to write about it.

If someone else needs, or just wants this story to keep going, then you have my permission and invitation to keep it up.

Use what I wrote above! Don't! Take the story and turn it on its head! Kill Jake!

(... story!Jake. Don't kill the prick that Jake is based on. They kinda like to live.)

But above all else, keep it up.

Because all of you, even those of you that left shitty reviews that exposed your lack of patience and reading comprehension (I mean you, everyone that compained about the glasses and everything else that eventually got explained, or about my gender) kept me going through two of the shittiest years of my life.

So, in this final note, I have only one message to really give.

I love you guys. All of you. Even those of you I don't particularly like.

(You know who you are.)

Stay cool, true believers. This is Undead Robot, signing out.
