Chapter 2: Chapter two

David Delavega

My dad has it all. Everyone on his payroll. I can't  really  say everyone, but at least one mole in each police department.

I used to eavesdrop on some of his business conversations in the study room, and all I can say, he deserves to be the king of every empire in the city.

Which is why, as I sit in the interrogation room, I'm not tense.

Every muscle in my body feels relaxed.

The only punishment I can get from him is a lecture for getting myself in trouble, just on my first night here.

But it will also come to pass. Besides, my mummy dearest always has my back.

It's been five years since I last saw my parents and I know deep down they'll be glad to see me, with a degree in commerce.

My dad wanted a different path for me, but I know growing up in a crime syndicate family, everything is definitely hereditary.

He has always been my role model and I can't imagine any other  path for me now.

I've learnt some little skills with the small business I used to run in college. Got me in trouble one or two times but..like father…

How he runs his business, how he takes care of his family. How he handles situations at hand, no matter how difficult they may seem. He could be ruthless, yes, mostly to those who are disloyal, the betrayers. From him I've learnt loyalty and how to always value family. I want him to look at me and be grateful he has me for a son.

I also believe once a Delavega, always a Delavega.

When I was in highschool, I would Peek through some of his business books when no one was watching. By now, I can say I'm not that bad. I want this.

He'd better be ready to work with me, side by side, father and son thing.

As I think about it, the door to the room I'm in, which has one table, made of steel, I think but I'm not interested in the material, same to the two chairs in the room, placed opposite to each other, one of which I'm sitting on.

The woman who arrested me in my hotel room last night  comes in. She's middle aged-I think,a little plump, with brown hair which seems to be tied tightly into a pony. We've had an encounter thrice. I'm ready to look back into her dark brown eyes, but she's definitely not my type. She's bad news.

First she handcuffed me-not in a romantic way  I mean. Very rough. Not even giving me a chance to explain myself. She was claiming that a murder weapon I know nothing about was found in one of my belongings. Someone must have set me up. And by Someone, I mean a Delavega enemy. Fair enough, I'm innocent on this one  and someone starting a war on my day one is a wrong move.  Very wrong move.

Let me deal with this one first.

"Looked you up, and well, I'm kind of impressed," she says with a grin.

"Ooohw," I answer back. "Is it because you find me cute?" I try to get to her nerves, knowing where this is going," I get that a lot, you know, I'm so used to it."

"David Delavega," She says, sitting on the chair opposite mine, ignoring my sweet words. "I always want the bigger fish , but  for now, the smaller one would do.

I lean forward and look straight  into her eyes with a sarcastic grin," Wait, you have a thing for my dad too? You have great taste my lady." I wink as I lean back.

This woman is getting nothing from me.

Stalling is all I can do now.

Well, until my family comes to my rescue.

But where the hell are they?

I've been sitting here for almost six hours now if my memory counts right. Even though I'm from the most wanted syndicate, I'm still a citizen and I have rights. For example, I need to see my attorney. "You have the right to an attorney, blah blah," at least I remember I was told that during my arrest.

A murder weapon! My enemies should find better ways to bring me down.

This one doesn't even scare me. Not even shaking me a little. All I want is to go home. Where I  belong. There's to much legalities here and I hate it.

I've been wrongfully captured and my family must be worried about me, especially my mum, that woman treats me like a two year old, no matter my age.

"Do you want me to sue you ma'am? You're holding me against my will, with evidence that doesn't count. What about  my right to a phone call?"

"You're a key suspect to a murder case. I've been asking you some.."

"Detective, the DNA results have arrived,"  another woman, younger than my interrogator opens the door and walks in.

They both stare at me. What's with these ladies? They both find me cute I guess. The younger one could be my type though.

She's petite, just the way I like my girls. But I don't want to take features, no way I'm going for someone, working for the police. My dad would forbid it before I even begin.

Anyway I'm not in town to look for girls, last night was my last fun night before I get into business. Maybe one or two that I could pay for fun, after work well done. But one thing I've always known, don't mix business with pleasure

"This is not over," she says, getting up from her seat and then  they both leave.

I'm becoming impatient. I should have just told my parents my actual arrival time so they could pick me up.

But I wanted to prove I can handle myself and now look at all this drama.

Anyway what's done is done and these ones will pay dearly for wrongfully holding a Delavega.

I'm thinking about this when the door slams open again.

"David!" This time I smile. It's my cousin, Cole. Finally, someone came.

"Took you long enough." I say getting up from my seat.

We've not seen each other for five years and that is why our greetings take a while.

He's here to get me out, definitely. But he's not my attorney.

"How did you end up here?" he asks after  a while,"We came for you at the airport last night but you were nowhere to be seen.

Next thing I receive a call from one of my informant  officers  that you're being held here."

"Does dad know?"

"No one knows where you are, your phone has been going straight to voicemail and aunt is worried sick about you."

"Good, let's keep this between us." I don't want chaos and this will surely spare me all the drama. I'll look for a viable excuse to tell my parents." Luckily Cole has my back too.

"Am I free to go?" I ask. "I'm tired of this monotonous environment. Nothing is interesting here. Everything sucks.

"They have nothing against you. For now, I think." he answers as we prepare to leave the room.

"What about the murder weapon?" I curiously ask.

"Leave all that to me."

Wait, Cole used to say this when things were kind of out of control and he  thought I couldn't handle it. I feel the situation is same here. But I'm grown now and I can handle my shit.

"Have you Seen it?" I inquire as I stop walking before we reach the door.

I can't let this go and I need to find the bastard who tried to frame me.

He lets in a heavy breath.

Last I checked, he was the worst at lying and as I can see, situation hasn't changed. Not for a bit

" I've seen it, I asked about your case from the  informant in here and he showed it to me.

" And? " There's clearly more to the story and I'm not about to get out of here, while still in the dark.

Cole looks at me with guilt in his eyes. I know it's not him. But does he want to protect someone?

"I recognized it because it has some special mark. We usually give it to our legal counsels. It has been passed over for generations."

It doesn't take a while for me to join the dots.

"Is the current legal counsel trying to frame me?"

Cole seems protective of this one.

"He or she?" I probe.

"Maria Banes," he says, looking very broken.

Then she should be the one getting me out of here, not Cole.

"And where exactly is this snake if a woman?"  I ask, disappointed that I've been rear ended by a Female.

"She's been missing since yesterday night."

My quest has just gotten interesting and I need to handle this on my own.

I make it my business to take care of this situation.

"Not a word to anyone," I say to Cole as we leave the precinct.
