Chapter 229: Comforting touch

"I assumed that you would have already tried to read it," Clyde said and pushed her hair behind her ear. 

Evelyn shivered under his touch. "I wanted to wait a bit."

"Well, why don't we take a look at it now," Clyde suggested. 

Evelyn nodded her head and got up from Clyde's embrace. She took a seat next to him and removed the book from her storage bag. The leatherbound book had an intricate cover with gems that shined in the firelight. Evelyn tried to open the book, but it would not open. She thought for a moment and then removed a pin from her bag. She pricked her finger and dropped a drop of blood on the book. The gems shined brighter, and the book flew open. Evelyn was startled but she was glad she got it open. She flipped to the first page and began to read. It was nice to read her mother's writing and it brought tears to her eyes. 

"Are you alright?" Clyde asked as he watched the tears form in her eyes.
