Chapter 1: Prologue

The Land of Douluo Continent.

In this place, everyone can awaken a unique power known as Martial Soul and become the most respected job in this land—a Spirit Master.

Everyone awakens their martial soul during the Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony, which commences at the age of 6.

However, only those who are tested and found to possess spirit power after awakening their Martial Soul can undergo training to become Spirit Masters. No matter how low their innate spirit power is, they could become one.

And now, such a ceremony is taking place in the awakening grounds of one of the three upper sect clans of the Heaven Dou Empire—the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan.

"Are you ready, Haiyan?"

A middle-aged man who appeared as if he were still in his twenties asked the young boy before him.

They both share some similarities despite lacking a direct blood relationship—short black hair and a pair of eyes as dark as the night sky.

"Yes… I have been waiting for this day after all… father."

The young boy answered the man in front of him, who happened to be his father and also the Sect Master of Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan, Ning Fengzhi.

"Okay… don't resist my spirit power."

Ning Fengzhi placed his left hand on Ning Haiyan's shoulder while summoning the clan's unique martial soul with his right hand—the Seven Treasured Glazed Tile Pagoda.

"Urg…"

A gentle yet unsettling wave emanated from Ning Haiyan's right shoulder, coursing through his entire body and triggering something in his right hand.

Meanwhile, not far from the two of them, a pair of old men looking in their 40s and a cute little girl with shoulder-length brown hair were watching over Ning Haiyan and Ning Fengzhi.

"I wonder what kind of martial soul Brother Haiyan will awaken…"

The little girl murmured curiously, catching the attention of the two sharp-eared old men beside her.

"Although Haiyan is not directly related to Fengzhi, his martial soul should still be the Seven Pagoda. It's just a matter of how high his innate spirit power will be…"

The black-haired old man responded, prompting Ning Rongrong to shift her gaze to him.

"How ignorant. His late father's martial soul is somewhat powerful compared to the pagoda, The Sun Ray Clouding Flower. Maybe he will awaken that instead, or even a new one."

The white-haired old man rebutted, resulting in a sharp gaze from the black-haired old man. "What did you say?!"

"Hmph!"

Both the old men locked eyes, as if they were fighting just with their eyes.

"Geez, Grandpa Sword, Grandpa Bone, don't fight here pretty plea—Oh look! It's happening!"

Ning Rongrong tugged both of her grandpas' sleeves and alternated her gaze between them before a shining light came from the direction of Ning Haiyan and Ning Fengzhi and caught her attention.

Both grandpas turned their heads and what they saw confirmed the white-haired old man, Chen Xin's conjecture.

A cream-colored six-petal lotus with two layers bloomed from Ning Haiyan's right hand. It had a shining red circular core and appeared unnatural.

As if this lotus flower were man-made.

Ning Haiyan stared at his martial soul with a frown, holding back a headache that struck him since his martial soul emerged.

Meanwhile Ning Fengzhi also gazed at his son's martial soul, lost in thought.

It wasn't because he was shocked or saddened that Ning Haiyan didn't awaken the clan's martial soul. Rather, there was something else that somehow attracted his attention.

Ning Fengzhi snapped out of his daze and looked at his son's furrowed face.

"It's okay Haiyan… don't dwell on it too much. All that matters is whether you have some innate spirit power or not, come on."

Ning Fengzhi patted Ning Haiyan's back twice and led him to a pedestal with a crystal ball embedded on top

"Place your hand on the crystal ball and let it do the work."

"Hmm…"

Ning Haiyan Haiyan placed his right hand on the crystal ball. A gentle and cool energy radiated from it, momentarily easing his headache.

Everyone around Ning Haiyan watched the crystal balls, their eyes filled with anticipation.

Ning Haiyan's face contorted as his headache from the martial soul awakening returned, accompanied by flashes of memories that intensified the higher his innate spirit power is.

"Come on Haiyan… you can do it…"

Ning Fengzhi murmured excitedly, his eyes brimming with hope.

As if responding to Ning Fengzhi's encouragement, the crystal ball shone even brighter.

'I can't hold it back anymo-'

"Full Innate! Hahahaha, isn't that great Ha-HAIYAN!"

Everyone's excitement came to an abrupt halt as Ning Haiyan fainted and collapsed backward. Fortunately Ning Fengzhi managed to catch him before he hit the ground.

"What's wrong Fengzhi?! Why did he faints?!?!"

Chen Xin and Gu Rong quickly rushed over with Ning Rongrong in Gu Rong's arms.

At this moment, Ning Haiyan was frowning and seemed to be murmuring something with his pale lips.

"Quick! Uncle Rong, please take Haiyan to a healer first; we will catch up soon."

Gu Rong nodded and gently placed Ning Rongrong on the ground with a smile.

"Sorry Rongrong… Grandpa will take care of your brother first."

"Uhm…"

Even though she was a little mischievous and had occasional dislike for her brother being too strict to her, she understood the urgency of the situation.

In fact, she was also genuinely worried about her brother.

Gu Rong picked up Ning Haiyan and blinked away, heading toward the healer's location inside the clan as fast as he could.

"Come on, we should go too," Ning Fengzhi said as he lifted Ning Rongrong into his arms.

She was only three years old after all, she walked too slowly for them.

As they made their way, Ning Fengzhi couldn't help but remember Ning Haiyan's past.

Ning Haiyan was an orphan who had lost his parents in a spirit ring hunt.

Coincidentally his mother, Ning Ruoxi, was a clan member who has the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda martial soul.

She was also the sworn sister of Lin Xian'er whom she met when they were both students of Heaven Dou Royal Academy.

Years passed and when both Ning Ruoxi and Lin Xian'er graduated, Ning Ruoxi invited her sworn sister to join her clan.

Aside from their sisterly relationship, Ning Ruoxi invited her because Lin Xian'er was also a talented assault system spirit master who has level 9 innate spirit power.

Lin Xian'er agreed and accompanied Ning Ruoxi to Seven Treasure Glazed Clan just in time to witness Ning Fengzhi's ceremony as he assumed his position as the sect master.

In a twist of fate, Ning Fengzhi and Lin Xian'er were mutually captivated by each other's looks, characters, and talents.

They got married soon after with Ning Ruoxi and her lover at that time acting as their wingmen.

Both Ning Ruoxi and Lin Xian'er held their wedding with Ning Ruoxi being held a day earlier , as it was essential to make the sect master's wedding truly special.

Hence, when they received the news of Ning Ruoxi and her husband's death, they felt compelled to take Ning Haiyan, who was just a year old at the time, under their care.

He was the son of someone deeply significant to both of them.

Finally, the act of truly acknowledging him as their son occurred when Lin Xian'er was giving birth to Ning Rongrong.
