Chapter 4: Path ahead

I just turned 11 and saved enough Valis to get me a weapon.

The group bought me a knife and crafted a bow, but I don't feel comfortable with them.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't keep them. A bow for flying monsters and a dagger to dismantle are always useful. They even presented me a leatherarmor from a wolf. Although it only covers the torso and isn't really durable in front of monsters, it is better than nothing and should be enough to reach Orario.

That is why I my savings go to another weapon.

Some would say, I could buy one in Orario, but I want to get familiar with the weapon of my choice till then.

Most of the time I get meat as payment, but if we hunted more than that, I could get a few dozens of valis since I hunted with the others now.

Equipment isn't cheap and costs a few thousand valis at the mere minimum. Even with the discount of our lokal blacksmith, Bruno, I need more than 3000 valis.

I asked Bruno if I could try a few weapons to know what expecially I want and with some rabbit meat for his family he gave in.

In the following days I used different weapons to train between returning to the village and his closing hour.

He has mostly swords, daggers and spears for hunters and guards as well as kitchen utensils.

I am most comfortable with spears. They have a good reach to keep enemies away and you can stab, slash and defend with them, so it became my weapon of choice.

It cost me 4500 valis, which he let me put on tab, as I only saved around 4000.

It wasn't anything fancy, just steel shaft and tip, but you need more materials than for a dagger, which influences the cost.

I am bigger than some 12 year olds with my 1,50 meters, but the spear is still 30 cm longer than my height.

In the following year I train with my spear in the yard and even bring it to the hunts.

It could be thrown or is good against boars which just run into the spearhead with enough momentum to get killed, when the others surround a few and some escape in my direction, I jump out behind the trees and have a boar barbecue stick ready.

I pay my tab off with my additional pay, that is now on par with the others, who seemed to be proud of my growth.

In Basic Abilities my growth on my 12th birthday looks like this:

Strenght: E-436

Endurance: E-451

Dexterity: E-413

Agility: F-348

Magic: I-0

I first got more excelia as I started to actively hunt when I was 10, but it became harder and harder for my Abilities to rise.

That brought me to the resolve to leave soon. I talked to Erina and Maggie from the orphanage and they were sad but accepted my decision. If they were sad because I leave or their biggest breadbringer, I don't care. I became more emotional with the hunting group as they teached me for 6 years. I still needed 3 months to get enough money as starting capital and provisions.

So when a merchant rode in the direction of Orario, I took the initiative to get on his carriage with a little fee to get to the adventure on my path ahead. To Orario.

Hey everyone,

This chapter is quite short but I upload an additional one

either today or tomorrow. I just wanted a clean cut at this point

and don't make the reading experience worse by

Pulling something out of my fingers.

Hope you have the same opinion.

Till then.
