Chapter 2: Chapter 1.2 The Fifth Reich

Wolfgang Dustin, was once known as Wolfgang Von Papen, nicknamed by many as "The Demon Heir", those were his enemies of course, for others he was called "The Savior of Germany", or "The Fifth Reich".

After the end of World War II, Germany established itself as the greatest power in Europe, annexing France, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium and part of England, along with many other Eastern European countries and part of the Soviet Union. However, it did not have absolute power in the world; the United States had a protracted conflict with the heirs of Prussia, one that was called the Cold War, which pitted Fascism against Capitalism. In the end, Fascism prevailed, but the death of Adolf Hitler gave a boost to the United States, who, along with many other countries, formulated a resistance and opposition to Nazi Germany.

Germany was entering a crisis, their leader was dead, and they were unable to meet the challenge without a new guide, but he arrived. Carl Lahm, who was called the Fourth Reich, was able to lead Germany to true world supremacy, wiping out all enemies of the state.

The following years were of much peace and development, and one figure stood out in all this context, a young scientist; Wolfgang Von Papen.

Wolfgang left in the army, in the Gestapo, and despite having studied a scientific career he was in charge of pursuing the rebels of the world, the resistance that opposed the Fourth Reich, as well as the Jews who, in his eyes, were still hiding like rats in the sewers of the world.

But the young man was... too good at his job, and as, for the vast majority of the population, the quality of life of a humanity united under one banner was improving, the flame of resistance became innocuous and extinguished.

At the age of forty he resumed his scientific career, and his figure became even brighter, taking Germany a step further. At the same time that he developed fabulous inventions that improved the quality of life of his people, Wolfgang made a political career, and ended up succeeding Carl Lahm "The Unifier", and became the Fifth Reich.

Wolfgang did not win any great war, even though he was trained by the best commanders before assuming his functions, but he did do something else, and that was to lead the creation of the first human colony outside the planet Earth, and it is that, with all scientists working under the same umbrella, while competing with each other to see who is the best, such progress and innovation is to be expected.

But, like the rest, came the end of the not-so-young Wolfgang Von Papen. The Fifth Reich did not have a great taste in its mouth at its death. It was born too late to unify the world under Germany, and it was born too early to conquer civilizations beyond the stars, even though it laid the foundations for that. And that is because Von Papen was a born conqueror who could not conquer anything, that left a bad taste in his mouth after his death, but in the end he gave the best he could for Germany and humanity, and made it a better place.

As he remembered it all, Wolfgang, now, Dustin, brought his left hand to his chest, and in his northern coat a small metal figurine was attached to his chest, a badge. Its contents? An iron cross that reminded him of home, for which he had to tirelessly supervise the blacksmith who made it, so that it would be perfect. But Dustin now had a new opportunity, in this strange world in which he had been reborn. A new chance to conquer, and to redeem his past mistakes, the only thing that bothered him a little was his new appearance. He missed his beautiful blond hair and bright blue eyes; now it was all brown.

'Well, at least I'm still white' the young man said to himself in his head, if he had been born a native of the Summer Isles, he would probably have killed himself outright; although he did not embody Hitler's ideals, Wolfgang somewhat disliked certain people, because of the damage, he believed, they would have caused to society had they been given free rein in Europe.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

Those thoughts are the character's, not the author's. Also, I'm doing a perhaps excessive demonization of the Nazis, to make my character a little less rational. I know that Hitler was not an enemy of Muslims, and I also know that not all the soldiers who fought for Germany were Naz1s, but hey, it is what it is.
