Chapter 10: Chapter 10 -- Poor rabbit
"The lesson must have really tired him out" Olivia whispered as she and Owen looked into Zane's room to see him snoring loudly while sleeping in a really strange position.
"Let's leave him be" Owen said as he walked to the kitchen, with his wife following right behind.
"Hey Owen, don't you think what we are doing is not good for him" Olivia voiced.
Owen raised his brows "What do you mean dear wife ?" he said sarcastically.
"I'm serious Owen. Zane needs friends, he has never even been to town before !" Olivia exclaimed.
"But--"
Olivia quickly interjected "I know you are going to say other kids will make fun of him, but really we don't know that!. He isn't the first person to be born blind you know!. What if he actually finds some good friends?. What if we are keeping him imprisoned on this farm for nothing? "
Owen deeply sighed "I understand but we can't just leave him alone with other kids, we need to test how they would treat him first."
"I got a day off tomorrow as well why don't him and I just walk to the playground and see?. I promise I will be watching him from close by." Olivia suggested.
"Okay Olivia you can take him to the playground tomorrow. Maybe I will also take the chance to go rabbit hunting. I miss eating meat" Owen said as he glanced at the bow hanging on the wall.
The playground was a piece of land on the outskirts of the village. It was about a hundred meters in diameter and for some reason, crops don't grow on it. One day a group of kids started playing on it and just like that it became the playground.
Zane woke up with a yawn as he stood to open his window as he usually does.
'Huh?' Zane said as he put his hand out the window trying to feel the morning sun. However he couldn't feel the sun from his position which meant that it was afternoon.
"Ohh no" Zane worried as he quickly felt his way out of his room to the front door.
"Father !"Zane called out. He had promised his father to help in the fields today but he woke up quite late.
"Zane follow my voice straight ahead don't worry there is nothing that will block your way" Owen shouted from the fields. Zane slowly walked towards the voice and soon reached his father's position.
"How did you sleep my son" Olivia said. She was apparently also in the fields tending to her flowers.
"I slept well mother thank you for asking i even overslept and i am sorry for that " Zane apologized.
"It's okay my boy, you where tired i understand" Owen said before he continued" why don't you go help your mother today I am fine here"
"Can i mother ?" Zane asked, facing the direction he last heard his mother's voice.
"Of course Zane, just please don't kill my flowers again okay?"
"Okay mother" Zane nervously chuckled.
Zane spent the rest of his day in the fields with his parents. He was really tempted to snap the necks off Olivia's flowers but then he controlled himself. He also thought of starting his own garden in order to farm flower victims. However that seemed incredibly weird.

'Isn't mana supposed to regenerate though ?' Zane thought as he checked his system screen. 'It's probably because my body hasn't reached the age needed to naturally produce mana' he thought. However he was very wrong.
The next morning eventually came and this time Zane woke up early and went to greet his parents, who were in the kitchen.
"Good morning mother. Good morning father" Zane greeted. 'I wonder what they would say if i called them mom and dad' Zane thought before internally laughing 'they would probably ask what a mom is '
"Morning son" they simultaneously replied.
"So father what are we doing today ?" Zane asked with a smile.
"Actually Zane, today you are going with your mother " Owen revealed.
Xane grew excited " Ohh are we going to the library mother ?"
"No Zane we are going somewhere even better !. We are going to the playground " Olivia excitedly said. Zane however was confused.
"What's a playground ?" he asked. Zane obviously knew what a playground was, however he had never heard of it in this world so he kinda didn't know exactly what it was.
"You will see when we get there come on go get dressed" Olivia smiled.
An hour later and the mother-son duo had already arrived at the playground. Zane could immediately hear the loud sound of children playing. This was the first time Zane was out of the farm, and the noise was almost unbearable. He had to tune out most of the noise in order to remain sane
"Go on! go play with the other kids" Olivia smiled.
"No offense mother , i know you did this for me and all but this was a waste of time. I will never play with other children. I can't even see them and this place is too noisy. Can we please go back home " For the first time in his life, Zane raised his voice.
He would have then started walking away but well he couldn't go anywhere without his mother, which further infuriated him.
'There has to be a way to use mana to see there just has to, and i will find it' Zane vowed as he clenched his fist. He didn't realize that tears where coming out of his eyes.
Olivia sighed before leading his son back home.
"You are back already ? I take it it didn't go well" Owen said when he saw his family approaching.
"Don't ask. I see you got lucky today that is a big one" Olivia pointed at the rabbit in Owen's hand, which was still alive by the way.
"Yah i was just about to kill it right now" Owen said.
"Wait.....father did you say KILL ?" Zane suddenly interjected. His parents looked at him weirdly. Why would a seven year old kid get excited by killing ?.
"Uhh yes Zane but don't worry i will kill if fast it won't feel any pain" Owen chuckled. He thought Zane was feeling sorry for the rabbit.
"Father do you love me ?"
"Of course I do Zane."
"Then you will let me kill that animal"Zane said. He didn't know what his father wanted to kill but he really needed mana at the moment. Zane knew that with enough time he will find a way to see, no matter how long it took him.
"What !?, why would you want to to that" Olivia asked in surprise.
"I promise i will tell you guys once i complete the project i am working on i just need to kill something. That thing is going to die anyway" Zane pleaded.
"Is it magic related ?" Owen asked.
"Yes" Zane replied.
"Okay here you go, it's not like you will get traumatized anyway" Owen slowly handed Zane the top half of the rabbit while he held on to the legs just in case it manages to escape Zane's grasp.
Zane felt around, and with the shape of the ears, concluded it was a rabbit. After taking the knife Olivia reluctantly handed to him, Zane held the rabbit by the ears and without hesitation, severed the head with a clean cut. Not even minding the blood which splattered all over his face.
His attention was elsewhere.
