Chapter 47: Light in darkness
Beside Pedro, the others quickly dropped their suitcases and readied attacks.
The wilderness path was favored by bandits and robbers who could be targeting them for their credits.
Not that they had any anyway.
That wouldn't hinder bandits from at least taking something from them though.
"Show yourself!" shouted Itakura, ten fire snakes at the ready, waiting to strike!
"Alright."
A dark haired boy with pale skin and slit-like snake eyes stepped out of the nearby shrubbery.
He let out a smile and raised his hands to show that he meant no harm.
Naturally, this boy was Nigel.
Max narrowed his eyes. "Who the fuck are you?"
"I'm Nigel. I want to talk to you. I have an offer to make that I think would be great, considering your… current situation," Nigel replied.
The five exchanged glances.
What did this guy mean?
Sure they understood the current situation part but what of the offer part?
Their curiosity was piqued.
"Make it quick," Berg growled.
"The Quentin family wants to take you in," Nigel said.
The five stared at him as if he had lost his mind.
"Yeah yeah yeah, I even heard the AEC wants to recruit us too. C'mon kid who are you shitting? Did you come to make fun of us?" Max snarled.
"How do they even know us and what the fuck would they want from us?" Mustapha chimed in.
None of them believed Nigel.
The Quentin family was a prestigious family with a good reputation. They had never even met one of the Quentins personally in their lives so how the fuck would they even know them?
And what on earth would they want to do with dismissed students like them?
This Nigel had come to tease them!
"We do not take kindly to your jokes. Get out of here before we add manslaughter to our already soiled reputation," Itakura snarled.
Nigel smiled. "Calm down. I can prove it to you," he said.
"Then prove it," said Berg.
Nigel tapped on his comm and made a video call, allowing a public holographic display of who he was calling to show up.
"Who are you calling?" Mustapha asked suspiciously.
"Ronnie Quentin. His grandfather is one of Earth's nine planetary realm experts," Nigel replied.
"He sent me after you. His information is public. You can look him up on DAUN. He's also a student at the Imperial Institute," Nigel added.
The five exchanged shocked glances.
They could sense Nigel was telling the truth.
What could the grandson of a planetary realm expert possibly want with them?
Curious, they drew closer to the holographic video call display.
At that moment, Ronnie picked up Nigel's call and his face was seen by the five ex-students.
"He's truly from the Quentin family!" Mustapha exclaimed in shock.
The resemblance was unmistakable.
The silver hair...
The green eyes...
That face.
The Ronnie guy was truly a Quentin.
"Oh, you've already reached them I see. Well done Nigel," Ronnie smiled.
He then looked at the five behind Nigel. "Hello. I'm Ronnie Quentin. It's a pleasure to meet you and I have an offer for you.
Yes, I've heard about your situation and all but it doesn't matter. I want to help you out.
This is my contact. Add me up and let's discuss the deal," he said with a smile.
The five boys exchanged glances, shrugged and nodded.
There was no harm in hearing Ronnie out.

Smith smiled wistfully as he expertly piloted a stealth hovercar into the wilderness.
His young master Ronnie had so many ambitions and plans.
Ever since he had been appointed by Ronnie's father to become Ronnie's personal butler, the boy never ceased to amaze him.
His thoughts and goals were far ahead of those his age and even many adults.
He had even been able to compel someone like him to join him and support his ambitions.
What had started off as a casual idea some years ago was now going to start today. Ronnie's plans were coming into place.
He had managed to get five loyal or yet to be loyal people to join his plans.
Smith couldn't deny that he was eager to see how it would play out.
He spotted his charges gathered in a small clearing, looking up for signs of his hovercar. With a smile, he deactivated the stealth function of the hovercar, making it visible to the five boys right away.
He landed the hovercar and got out.
"Are you the ones joining young master Ronnie?" he asked as he evaluated them.
The five of them looked like they had fallen into a meat grinder, causing Smith to raise an eyebrow but he didn't ask about it.
Whatever it was that made them end up like that, they definitely wouldn't want to talk about it for now.
They nodded.
"Get in. We have quite the journey ahead of us," he said with a smile at them.
They nodded and got into the hovercar quickly. Smith swept his senses around to make sure they hadn't been seen by anyone before driving the hovercar away in stealth mode.
These five were going to be the beginning of Ronnie's plans to build a loyal secret force separate from his family.
Despite them being dismissed by the Imperial Institute, they were above average in terms of talent and power.
Anyone who got the chance to attend the Imperial Institute was either a genius or someone with above average capabilities.
They would prove very useful.
By tomorrow, news would be released that the five had committed suicide in the wilderness and their remains had been eaten up by Awakened beasts.
Smith had made the necessary calls and in a few hours, a professional disappearance team would set the environment to relate to the story.
Knowing how cold the Vice Chancellor was, she would ignore the matter and also the students would probably forget about them in at most a month.
Perhaps only the parents would show some care but Smith didn't count on it.
They would probably be happy that their child died with his disgrace on his head without implicating the family.
That was how the world worked now.
Of course, all that would be in Ronnie's favor and these five people were going to be infinitely grateful to him for taking them in when no one else would.
Their loyalty was going to be certain and they would not have to worry about anything other than completing Ronnie's bidding.
After all, they were going to be 'erased' with totally new identities created for them.
A foolproof cover story to set them up to become ghosts.

Damien took a glance at his comm and a wry smile formed on his face.
As expected, the fight had gone viral and this time, almost everyone in the school had seen it!
@Information_minister, true to his pseudonym delivered a well detailed analysis of the fight along with the full video!
