Chapter 2: A look into the past
Riley can't go a day without her morning coffee.It's always a normal trip to the Cafe but that morning was rather a surprising one.Outraged because the barista took so long before giving her the coffee, she missed a step as she turned around and spilled it on a tall blond man.
"Darn it!, Can't people see anymore?,can't you watch where you're going? "Riley said as she lifted her head to see who the person was.
"Bryan?,wait, is that you?" Riley said."Riley?" said Bryan with a glorious smile on his face.
Riley and Bryan literally lived in the same neighbourhood when they were little,they went to the same middle school and high school. Bryan was rather gullible and more of a scaredy cat during their school days.
Hewould follow Riley around all the time.The two of them started developing feelings for each other when they reached highschool.
They eventually made it official and were boyfriend and girlfriend but it was short lived. Riley caught Bryan kissing Ashley, the president of the debate team which he belonged and broke up with Bryan the next day.
Bryan tried to explain to Riley that Ashley kissed her out of the blue just when she arrived and that nothing was going on between them but Riley was keen on what she saw.
Thatwas the end of both their friendship and relationship until they met again at the coffee shop.
Unlike Riley, Bryan was so excited to meet Riley again,he told her she was looking great and asked how she was doing but she just kept looking at him.
Rileystruggled to smile as the ghost of the past visited her,she remembered why she broke up with Bryan and walked away from him. "Riley! Riley! Riley!"Bryan called out to Riley but she never turned back.
The morning was amazing as usual,the morning coffee had never tasted so good,birds chirping, and everyone welcoming Riley to the office with a bright smile as usual.
"Riley! I'm so glad I caught up with you, there's news,you're going to have a new boss, he's my nephew" said Riley's current boss Emma. "Oh right!,are you retiring madam?", Riley unhappily said.
MissEmma has been her mentor ever since she took the role of the Marketing Manager.
Shecouldn't accept the news as she leaned over and gave Emma a hug.Everything was set for a meeting to introduce the boss to the rest of the team, Riley had a client to attend to before the meeting so she went into her office to meet with the client. "Hi Sir", Riley said as she went over to shake her client's hands ,he turned and to her surprise, it was Bryan.
"Hey Riles" Bryan funnily said."Riles" was the name he used to call Riley when they were little.
Gosh! Are you stalking me?,What are you doing here? asked Riley. "You came to meet a client right? Well I'm the client",replied Bryan.
Riley told Bryan there's no way she'll agree to work with him no matter what,she got up to walk away but thought to herself she'll get fired if she walks away from a client so she turned back and sat down.
Gazingangrily into Bryan's eyes she sat down and remained calm,just at that moment someone entered the room."Hi miss,I'm Mr Eric,I came to see you about the contract,your secretary directed me here", said the man.
Fumingwith rage Riley turned back to Bryan to confront him for lying but Bryan had disappeared into thin air.Everything was set in the board room for the team to meet the new boss.Although Riley was a bit skeptical about the news,she was still curious to meet the new boss."He's here! He's here!", announced the Secretary.
Dumbfounded,shocked,surprised was Riley's reaction as she saw who the new boss was.She couldn't believe her childhood romance,the first boy to break her heart,Bryan,was the new boss.
Shetried so hard to not let her actual emotions show on her face.Bryan winked at Riley as he walked passed her and Riley rolled her eyes back at him.She went back to her office and thought, it was going to be impossible to work with Bryan.
