Chapter 2: First Invasion

I walked into the Strategy Room and noticed Aponshe reading through a few strategies on her clipboard. I knocked on the door and she looked up at me then smiled.

"Master, are you ready?~" Aponshe asked and smiled at me.

I nodded and crossed my arms. "What is the first stop?"

"The first stop is a village. It is a very easy raid. I have a few quests for us to complete while we are there. I'll send them to your system. These Quests will reward Souls based on the quests completed." Aponshe said and sent the quests to my system.

[Quests]

{Invade Alenia Village: +100 Souls}

{Acquire A Prisoner: +250 Souls}

{Steal A Relic: +50 Souls}

"Is this all?" I asked and looked at Aponshe.

"Yes. You are only just starting out so I want to make these relatively easy for you~" Aponshe answered and nodded.

I crossed my arms and looked at the portal that was opening. "Alright, let's get this over with."

"Yes, Master. Also before we go...the more destruction you cause, the more souls you can obtain so make sure you destroy everything in your path!~ The heroes of this location are Villagers and Farmers. They guard a relic called the Merchant's Certificate." Aponshe said and walked toward the portal.

I followed Aponshe and tilted my head. "Merchant's Certificate? Isn't that a relic that allows a merchant to appear in my domain every five days or so?"

"Yeah, by having that Relic, you can get up to 15% off since it is a basic certificate." Aponshe answered.

"Also before you go, I need to explain one important thing to you. For you to summon a Monster to help in your raids and invasions, you'll need that specific Monster Card and a certain amount of souls. Each type and class of monster needs a certain amount of souls. Once that monster dies in battle, they are dead for good unless you obtain another card or revive them using the Temple of Revival." Aponshe explained and looked at me.

"Got it." I nodded.

"Here are some basic monster cards for you to use and some Souls for you to summon them with." Aponshe said.

[Obtained Slime, Goblin, and Imp Monster Cards x5]

[Obtained 150 Souls]

"Alright, let go out there and raid this village!" Aponshe said and walked through the portal.

I followed her and we appeared in the outskirts of the village we were planning to invade. Aponshe grabbed her floating orb and looked through it. She began to see an image of the church the relic was being held in.

"Alright, the relic is being guarded by some Farmers and Villagers who have been promoted to mercenaries. It should be an easy raid nonetheless. Shall we?" Aponshe asked and looked at me.

I looked at my Monster Cards and noticed each card took 50 Souls to summon. I summoned one of each current monster I had in my roster. A slime, an Imp, and a Goblin appeared before me. They bowed toward me and was ready to battle.

"Alright, let us invade the village." I said.

Aponshe smiled and nodded. "Following your lead, Master!"

I summoned my sword and dashed toward the village and my allies followed behind. I commanded my monsters to savagely attack anyone they saw in the village. My monsters charged forward and the villagers noticed them then cried out for help.

One of the mercenaries dashed forward into action to defend their village. They slashed at the Slime, but the Slime used its body structure to nullify the damage it would take. The Goblin rushed forward and slashed at the mercenary with his axe, dealing a fatal blow to him.

"Where did you say the relic was?" I asked as I ran through the village.

"The church!" Aponshe said and dodged a mercenary's strike then fired her orb at the mercenary and knocked him away.

I looked back and noticed a mercenary sneak behind me. I parried her attack and knocked her back. We slashed and clashed rapidly then pushed each other away.

"Who are you and why are you doing this?!" The woman asked and readied her sword.

The mercenary was a beautiful woman with clear skin, dark brown hair styled in two braids, light blue eyes, and had a slender body with medium breasts. She wore a white button up shirt, brown overalls and brown boots to match. She wielded a basic iron sword and shield.

"My name doesn't matter. All that matters is your village is gone. Now you have two options. Join my army peacefully and be spared the torture session or battle against me and be taken a prisoner." I said.

"Like I'd ever join you!" Dahlia yelled and dashed toward me.

She slashed at me, but missed. I kneed her stomach and she coughed then groaned as I kicked her upwards. I slashed at her three times then knocked her back down. I gripped her face and spun around then slammed her to the ground. She groaned and coughed a bit of blood. She slowly stood up then slashed at me swiftly, but I parried her attack and knocked her sword out of her hand.

I evaded her shield attack and knocked her shield out of her hand then my eyes shined. She went for a punch, but I caught her fist. I pulled her toward me and palmed her stomach then dark energy exploded from her back. She fell to her knees and noticed dark shackles appear around her hand.

[Quest Cleared: Acquire a Prisoner]

[Reward: 250 Souls]

I transported Dahlia back to Astarfall then rendezvous with Aponshe. I noticed none of my monsters other than the Goblin made it back to me. Aponshe smiled at me and nodded, awaiting my orders.

[Boss Unit incoming!]

I looked around then noticed a man dashing toward us and he slashed at me. I blocked his attack then grunted as I slid backwards. The Goblin ran toward the man and slashed at him, but the man parried and dealt the final blow to the goblin, killing him.

Grant walked forward and glared at me and Aponshe. He pointed his sword toward us and his heroic aura surrounded his body. "Overlord and his pet. This is as far as you will go."

Grant was an older man who seemed to be a veteran. He had short brown hair, cold gray eyes, and nicely shaved facial hairs. He wore a black shirt, beige pants with two belts, a red split tail coat with black armor. He wore armored boots and carried a great sword that had a black and red blade.

"Pet. That's a funny title, although I don't mind it. I'll be my master's pet if I have to be." Aponshe said.

'You don't have to degrade yourself like that...' I thought to myself.

"Enough talk! It's time for action!" Grant bellowed and dashed toward us.

I blocked his slash and pushed him back then clashed with him twice then dodged his next slash and parried his next slash. Aponshe dashed toward his blindside and swung her staff at him. Grant blocked the strike and kicked Aponshe away then launched a cutting wave at her. Aponshe groaned as she was hit and slid backwards.

I parried three of Grant's slashes then grunted as he parried my counter attack. He landed two slashes on me then kicked me back. I slid backwards then noticed him dash toward me.

[Tip: If you fall, your entire army dies with you!]

'He definitely knows this hence why he's only after me...I won't let him win.' I thought to myself.

I clashed with Grant and noticed purple mist along the ground. I dodged his next strike and grabbed his arm then headbutt him. He groaned and stumbled backwards. I noticed my sword resonating with the purple mist then noticed it shining.

Grant bellowed and slashed in a circle multiple times, but I blocked each hit then parried the last slash, knocking him off balance. I slashed at him twice, cutting him then impaled him with my sword. I bellowed and slashed in a circle, slicing him. He groaned and fell onto one knee. He grunted heavily from the wound I left him with.

"You're a strong unit, but you're not strong enough!" I bellowed and sliced his head off, killing him.

[Boss Unit defeated!]

I sighed and looked at Aponshe. She smiled at me and nodded. I nodded back and walked toward the church. She followed behind and hummed happily. I kicked the doors open and noticed the nuns cower before me. I walked into the church and snapped my fingers.

Aponshe's orb shined brightly and launched bolts of energy at the nuns, killing them one by one. I walked toward the front of the church and moved the podium then opened the secret door and pulled out the relic they hid.

[Quest Cleared: Steal a Relic]

[Reward: 50 Souls]

[Quest Cleared: Invade the Village]

[Reward: 100 Souls]

"Alright, we did what we came here to do. You completed all three quests and dealt a lot of damage to th village. Are you ready to head back?" Aponshe asked.

"Yeah. Let's head back." I said.

Aponshe nodded and created a transportation circle beneath us then warped us back to Astarfall. We appeared in front of the Devil Crystal and I walked toward the large black crystal.

[Would you like to Upgrade the Devil Crystal?]

{Yes}

{No}

"Yes." I said.

[Souls Required: 400 Souls]

[Current Souls: 1200 Souls]

I upgraded the Devil Crystal and a light shined. Aponshe looked at her orb and noticed a new facility appear in the citadel.

[New Facility Unlocked: Training Grounds]

"Ahh the old Training Grounds is open. The training grounds is used to boost certain number of units stats for the next 24 Hours. It's really useful when you're trying to prepare for a big Invasion or a Grand Quest. Before we check that out, let's go to the prison and check up on our new prisoner!~" Aponshe said and smiled at me.

I nodded and walked out of the throne room with Aponshe then headed straight to the prison where Dahlia was being kept. She looked up at me and grunted.

"Let me go! You can't do this to me!" Dahlia yelled.

[Tutorial: Every prisoner has a different Mental Endurance. Reduce Mental Endurance to 0 to fully corrupt and convert a prisoner to your will.]

{Dahlia's Mental Endurance: 600}

"You can only torture each prisoner once a day. This sorry sap doesn't even know what's gonna hit her." Aponshe sadistically chuckled.

"Please! I'll do whatever you want! Just let me go!" Dahlia pleaded.

"So which tool do you want to use?~ Unlike the game, every tool here is effective one way or another~" Aponshe said and giggled.

"Hand me the whip." I said and held my hand out.

"With pleasure!~" Aponshe said and walked toward the wall of Torture Tools and grabbed a black whip. She walked back over to me and placed it in my hands.

I walked into Dahlia's cell and cracked the whip on the ground. I noticed Dahlia's petrified face and smelled her fear. "Don't struggle.."

Dahlia groaned as I struck her with the whip. She cried out in pain from the lashes I delivered to her. Each blow progressively grew stronger and stronger until she couldn't take it anymore. I stopped torturing her and heard her whimpers and pants.

[Dahlia's Mental Endurance lowered to 212]

"That's enough for today." I said and walked out of her cell then handed Aponshe the whip.

"I wonder what this feels like on my body..~" Aponshe giggled and walked over to the wall and hung up the whip.

"Alright, we've done a lot for today. Let's rest up and recover our stamina. I'll be in my room if you need me." I said and walked off. I held my head as I tried to understand what I had just done.

"Okay, Master!~ Rest well!~" Aponshe said and bowed.

'It was almost like second nature to me...I am an Overlord now so this is what I have to do, but it felt so wrong...yet I enjoyed it...' I thought to myself as I headed to my chambers..
