Chapter 2: Auspicious Signs

I opened my eyes to a hectic scene. People standing around me looking up to the sky that could only be described as an ocean of the darkest ink. Lightning was everywhere, dancing from one side to the other swirling in mesmerizing patterns. Dragons and Phoenix could be seen circling overhead, their cries ringing out every so often. Rainbows would appear without the suns assistance and divine beasts were all converging around me.

There was no semblance of calm anywhere to be seen, any ordinary person would think the world was ending but to cultivators, it was different. These were auspicious signs, signs that a genius or rare treasure was being born. This normally wouldn't cause too much of a stir but there were too many.

Every auspicious sign you could conceive was there, there were divine beasts of providence, heavenly lightning, even the heavenly Dao was moving unnaturally. These signs went on for hours without end.

Only after this stopped could I see people begin to move again, there were crouds of people converging around me looking at me with all kinds of emotions in their eyes. Their was envy, pride, anticipation, happiness, and no matter where I looked the most negative emotion I saw was envy.

All of these people lowered their head in unison and shouted ""WE GREET THE YOUNG MISS!"" I was shocked, the entire thing was so smooth, as if they'd practiced dozens of times.

I turned my head to meet the gaze of a woman with hair white as snow and ears reminiscent of a tigers. She looked young, barely old enough to be a mother, but I knew instinctively that she was without a doubt my mother. She had a warm smile on her face that could melt even the coldest of hearts. She was so captivating that one would would find it hard to look away, her lips were red like cherries contrasting her pale white skin. Her eyes were green like jade, only further enhancing her beauty.

I turned my head slightly to the left to see man with a strong square jaw and sharp eyes staring into mine. He had pride in his fierce eyes along with love and care. His muscles couldn't be hidden behind his thick white robes, it was too the point where if he flexed his clothes would be torn to shreds.

Both of my parents were good looking and charismatic, either one of them would be the most attractive in the room. They looked natural together, as if they were only created to be by each others sides.

Everyone else here was either beautiful or handsome with the exception of a few old people. Nearly everyone present had white hair and the ears of a tiger, the atmosphere was lively, everyone was offering congratulations to my parents.

The day went on and the large crowd gradually dispersed as night was drawing closer. Only my parents were left, my mom was staring at me with the same eyes as the last time I saw her and my dad was laughing heartily looking my mother in the eye.

"She's as beautiful as you are." He whispered in her ear

She blushed and laughed lightly.

"Its been a long day, we should put her to bed."

"Alright." As my mother carried me to bed she couldn't stop herself from placing a few kisses on my cheeks. She layed with me as I was drifting to sleep after such an exhausting day.

Although I didn't do anything I was still tuckered out. I swiftly fell asleep in my mother's embrace.

I woke up the next day with a splitting headache, it felt torturous, I couldn't stop myself from crying.

My mom rushed into the room and picked me up gently she put me against her body with my head laying against her shoulder. She put her hand on my back, it felt warm and comfortable as after a few minutes I no longer had a headache.

I closed my eyes and saw two books sitting infront of me.

<Transcendent God's Primal Sutra> and <Void Immersion Art>

For some unknown reason I started cringing at the names, they were so basic. I looked at them one at a time but didn't understand the language it was written in.

I couldn't be bothered with it right now anyway, I just wanted to relax and live a baby life right now. I started to get hungry so I did what any baby would do so I cried.

My mom smiled at me and asked if I was hungry before slipping her robe off her shoulder to start breast feeding me. I happily partook in my breakfast that was hastily prepared. After my breakfast I took another small nap.

My mom carried me in her arms to a rocking chair and started humming me a song.

After three years of eating, sleeping, pooping, learning how to walk and talk, learning to read and write, and experiencing life I was finally three years old. I could finally act on my own.

Of course I had to stay in my room or courtyard with a supervising maid but other than that I was free.

It was pretty normal for children to be mature at this age as spirit qi would nourish a baby's growth, I was basically as big as a five year old mortal. Although technically I was a mortal too because I wasn't allowed to learn martial arts before five and couldn't cultivate before ten.

At five you could practice physical martial arts to strengthen your foundation and at ten your spiritual roots would be developed enough to use without permanent damage.

It was a little boring to just grow up without doing anything. There were of course secondary professions like alchemy and forging but no one is dumb enough to let a kid near life ending flames.

With nothing to do she relented.

Three years of not knowing her own name, and she finally figured it out. Her parents were the only ones she'd talked to so far and they'd only call her 'honey' or 'darling' or 'cub'. When she was introduced to her new maid she had been a little confused.

'Nice to meet you miss Baek Hong. My name is Hwa linyue, and I'll be serving as your personal maid for the foreseeable future.' She said. It was a little weird to get used to such a name.

'I'll come up with a nickname in the meantime'

I've already read through and fully understood the martial arts I was born with but still haven't tried to practice them. Being a kid was such a long and slow life.

It would probably be faster to reach immortality than to reach five. She shook her head.

With nothing else to do I've already figured out the power system by listening to my parents' conversations.

From weakest to strongest it goes...

Body forging - Qi integration - Qi accumulation - Foundation building - Golden core - Nascent soul - Dao fetus - Dao forging - Soul integration - Tribulation Transcendence - Mahayana.

These were only the mortal realms which were followed by the immortal realms, but that's too far off to talk about for now. The normal realms were divided into nine but the special realms were divided differently.

Theoretically with her martial art it would only take a year to complete body forging, followed by another four grueling years waiting for her spirit root to completely develop.

"Linyue?" A young innocent voice called out.

"Yes young miss?" After suddenly appearing she replied.

"Could you get me some books?"

"As you wish."

Without so much as a sound her maid disappeared. Her maid was mysterious and always wore a mask' so Baek Hong didn't have an impression of her at all. And although she was always near she was never in sight.

After only a few minutes of waiting she received some books.

These books covered history as well as common sense of the world.

Much to her surprise she learned that even in the upper realm a high grade spirit root was rare, though not as rare as in the lower realm. Her spirit root was incredibly rare and if other people found out they would immediately invite her to become the little leader of their sect. No sect would reject her, on the contrary, they'd give up half of their fortune just to have her as a disciple, even if only in name.

No one had seen her spirit roots before and could only tell they were extremely high grade. Her physique on the other hand wasn't as rare. On the day she was born her physique was tested and everybody was surprised at the results. She was born with a rare void body that was seen maybe once in a thousand years.

She knew that she was a genius but hadn't even discovered the most shocking part. With no one to reference she thought that learning two Perfected martial arts in a day was only a little faster than average.

The only things she could do were read and wait until she was five to practice martial arts. She could finally begin her journey to immortality. She couldn't wait.
