Chapter 1: The boy with dreams

"I WILL BECOME A KING!" I said this with the most assertive voice a 13-year-old can make, and though I said this with much confidence, my parents still had worried faces.

"Elon," my father said in a low tone, "we are commoners with no noble blood. Becoming royalty of any kind would be impossible."

This was usually how this conversation went. After all, my father wasn't exactly wrong; we are poor even by commoner standards and don't even have a drop of noble blood of any kind.

"I don't care," I told my father stubbornly. "I am Elon of the crimson house. The lands far and wide should know my name," I said my throat raw from yelling. Sweat droplets fell from my forehead.

"Stop saying our last name like we're royal," my dad said, rubbing his fingers on his temple in frustration. He has explained to me many times that we just weren't born with nobility.

That I should just pick a job as a baker or farmer and not something so stacked against me from birth.

After a long silence, my mother spoke. "Just make lunch for your siblings," she said, clearly tired of me and my dad bickering, "and you." My mother pointed at my father in a loving but commanding way. "Go rest; you had a long day in the mines."

"Fine, wake me up for supper, honey." My dad, clearly tired, coughed raspily and painfully. The coal, dirt, and sweat on his clothes showed that he was made to work nonstop.

I began breaking pieces of homemade bread into pieces for my siblings and pouring the soup from the pot into the bowls.

I sighed as I looked at the bowls. I can tell we're barely scraping by; it isn't my father's fault the mine is lowering the pay more and more. We may starve in the winter this year.

"Lunch time! Lunch time!" I yelled for three little kids to walk out in a line, each shorter than the first one, and the second oldest, Theodore, sat down. He had black hair with brown eyes and short legs.

We all had brown eyes. I found them so beautiful as they looked like fresh, fertile soil. The pinnacle of power was land, I believed.

"Hey Lily, good morning," I said in an eager tone. I then made a wide smile, and she returned the smile with an even brighter

one I was sure my sister would grow up to be a wonderful young lady. She had chubby cheeks, big eyes that were the darkest of the family, and a button nose.

Lastly, Leonardo had golden hair after our mother and long legs. I could tell he would be tall, maybe taller than me even.

"I hope you guys enjoy lunch," I told them with genuine happiness. "I'm going to skip lunch and go to the library to study swordsmanship and mama core training." I said it in a hurry.

"Again, Elon, don't you ever rest." Theodore said, "I can't if I want to become a king." I had respect for Theodore, as he would watch after everyone when I studied for my future, so he was very important and reliable.

I ran to the library now, wanting to waste more time at home when I could be learning. I made it near the entrance as I remembered I didn't have a library number.

In order to get a library number, I needed money that I didn't have, so I resorted to sneaking in.

I looked up

There I saw an arc window. All I had to do was climb up there, as I have many times before, without falling.

I began my ascension, stepping and grabbing on to a hot stone. As I strain my arms to clinch the wall, I hear someone walking.

"The guard, the guards! How could I forget they routinely walk this path on Saturdays?

"Shit"

I grunted, speeding up, moving as fast as I could, feeling my hands sizzle on the heat of the hot stones. I scrambled up the wall, the heat of the stones burning my hands as I climbed in a panic. The guard's footsteps grew louder and louder as he got closer, and I knew I had to act fast.

Without thinking, I climbed through the arch window and found myself inside the library. The cool air inside was a welcome relief from the sweltering heat outside, and I took a deep breath to calm myself down.

But my relief was short-lived. The guard burst through the door, his eyes scanning the room as he spotted me hiding behind a bookshelf. "How did that brat get in here?" he growled.

I sprang into action, grabbing the nearest book and throwing it at him as hard as I could. The guard dodged the book effortlessly and came at me with his club. I leaped out of the way, narrowly avoiding his strike, and ran for the door.

I slammed it shut just as the guard reached it, trapping him inside the library. As I ran down the hall, I heard his muffled screams and shouted threats coming from behind the door.

But I wasn't out of danger yet. I could hear the footsteps of other guards coming from all directions as they rushed to the library, drawn by the commotion. I had no time to waste.

I scanned the hallway for the two books I wanted. I grabbed them in a hurry, then ran for an escape route and spotted a small window at the end of the hall. It was too high to reach, but I knew I had to at least try. I ran towards it, jumping up.

I felt gravity yank my child's body towards the ground to meet a very painful fall, but I managed to fling my arms forward just in time and with all my might stretched

and grabbed the ledge. With all my strength, I pulled myself up, my fingers slipping and scraping on the stone as I struggled to get a foothold.

Just as I thought I would fall, my fingers finally clutched the ledge with a tight grip. I crawled through the window and found myself on a rooftop, the sun beating down on me once again.

I had made it. I was free. I was one step closer to reaching my dream. Even though I had stolen these books, which I regretted, my father told me never to steal, but there was no way I could have Read in the library.

As I sat on the rooftop, catching my breath and tending to my wounded hands, I couldn't help but smile. I had done it. I had gotten to the library, and now I could focus on training. I looked at the two books: the first on basic mana core building and the second on swordma....

Shit…..

I returned home, clutching the random book I had mistakenly taken from the library. As I walked through the door, my family looked up at me, concern etched on their faces.

"What happened, Elon?" my mother asked, worry evident in her voice.

"I had a little mishap at the library," I admitted sheepishly, hiding the book in my hand. "I ended up grabbing a book, but I'll return it as soon as I can." I thought.

My father sighed and shook his head, a mix of frustration and relief on his face. "Elon, you need to be more careful. We can't afford any trouble or confrontations. We're already struggling as it is."

"I know, Dad. I'm sorry," I replied, feeling guilty for causing them more worry.

My siblings looked up at me with wide eyes, eager to hear about my adventure. "Did you really climb up the library wall?" Theodore asked, his voice filled with awe.

I chuckled, realizing that my reckless actions had inadvertently impressed my siblings. "Yeah, I did. But it was a mistake. I'll be more careful next time."

As we sat down for dinner, I couldn't help but reflect on my determination to become king. I knew it was a lofty goal, especially for someone like me, but I couldn't shake the feeling that destiny had something greater in store for me.

With a renewed sense of determination, I vowed to work hard and find a way to rise above my circumstances.
