Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Looking out for Zara

Devon froze on hearing Zara's voice. Devon slowly looked up and saw her standing by the door way. Her face looked calm and Devon sighed softly because he knew she hadn't heard the rest of the conversation. He stood up and walked towards her. Wrapping his arms around her, he said,

"It's just some silly men problem. We made a bet that my favorite basketball team would win his but he didn't believe me but I ended up becoming right after all."

"Oh, no wonder I saw him leaving really angry," Zara said.

"Don't mind Aaron; he's like that whenever he realizes that he's a sore loser," Devon.

A smile appeared on Zara's face as she wrapped her arms back around Devon.

"So, where were we before we were rudely interrupted?" Devon said, as he carried Zara in his hands and moved her to his desk.

They continued with their intimacy and the rest of the day went well for the both of them. The love between them continued to bosom and they were both happy. Zara, because she felt she made the right decision and Devon because he felt like he had found the woman he needed all his life.

One evening, Zara visited her mum's for family dinner. Her sister was going to be in attendance and she was so excited to see her. She hadn't seen her since the last 2 years after her divorce with her ex-husband. Getting to her mum's place, her sister opened the door for her. Both ladies pulled themselves into a warm hug. The love between both sisters radiated the room.

"Daphne, it's been a while. You just left and you never even looked back. It isn't fair. You didn't even call once," Zara complained.

"I'm sorry, Zee. You know, with the situation I was in then, I just wanted to go somewhere far to release all the negative energy and forget all that had happened. I really sorry," Daphne said and they hugged it out.

"Awww, see my beautiful girls," their mum said,  big smile appearing on her face.

She had been standing behind them for awhile. Both ladies turned to face their mother, smiles etched on their faces.

"Come on, the food is getting cold," she said.

Daphne and Zara did as she told. Soon, they were on the dining table and having dinner but few minutes into dinner, Zara's phone kept going wild with notifications. The more she picked up her phone to check it, the more she smiled, forgetting she was with her family.

"And who is that making my little sister's blush," Daphne asked, a smile appearing on her face.

"It's no one," Zara answered.

"It doesn't seem like no one; your face is red and it's obvious you're blushing," Daphne persisted.

"Well if you must know, I have a boyfriend," Zara revealed.

"Oh really," Daphne said, without much enthusiasm.

"And who is this boyfriend of yours," Daphne asked, bringing a blush on Zara's face.

"It's her boss, Devon Kings," their mother answered.

Daphne immediately looked angry.

"Is that true?" she asked Zara.

"Yes; Devon Kings, my boss is my boyfriend," Zara confirmed.

"Don't tell me it's the same Devon Kings I know, who sleeps with different women every night. The same playboy?" Daphne asked

"It's him but he's changed; he doesn't do all that anymore," Zara said, defending Devon.

"Don't you learn, Zee? You were here when dad left us and went to his younger conquests, breaking mum's heart in the process. You were also here when my good-for-nothing ex-husband, Dean, did the exact same thing. And here you are about to make the same mistake, Zee? What happened your vow of not wanting to have anything to do with a playboy? Mum, and you know about this?" Daphne asked really angry.

"Daphne, Devon is a good man. I got to know this when I got to know him better. He has been in the kind of situation we are in right now and he's hurting. What can be more romantic and sweet than two people hurting from the experience to find comfort in each other and heal?"

"You know, I thought Dean was a good guy too but news flash, he still hurt me deeply. I don't care if Devon is a good guy; the fact is that he has the records of a renowned playboy and he could hurt you anytime soon. You have to break up with him," Daphne ordered.

"What? I'll do no such thing, Daphne," Zara answered.

There was dead silence at the table as both sisters glared at each other. Daphne suddenly got up, banging her hands on the dinner table.

"Fine then, go get your heart broken but when he breaks your heart, don't run coming to me cause I warned you," she said.

With that, She grabbed her purse and exited the dining room, ignoring her mother's call to come back to the dining table.

"What's her problem, Mum?" Zara asked her mother.

"She's your older sister; she's just looking out for you. She doesn't want you getting hurt," her mum said to her.

The rest of dinner went well and Zara returned to her home but her sister's words kept replaying in her head like a cassette tape being replayed over and over again. She could hardly sleep that night.

The next day, she went to work and the man she saw didn't look like he was going to break her heart. She could see and feel the love in his eyes. She only wished she could call her sister and convince her that Devon was a changed man. Devon noticed the change in Zara and how absent minded she was. He asked her multiple times if anything was wrong and she replied that there was no problem.

The rest of the day went well. They attended meetings, did the day's work and even had time for some lovey-dovey moment. Bothered her strange behavior, Devon decided to surprise her.
