Chapter 13: *Title at the End*

-Timeskip-

A deer was happily eating a little patch of grass from his mouth.

His head continuously snapped towards left and right, trying to be on alert and in a position perfect to escape...

He was quite vigilant... if not for me that was completely white from head to toe and walking towards it.

I moved, but my steps didn't leave traces where I passed... they were made so in less than two minutes they would become imperceptible.

Even the best tracker in the world could not find my tracks after 5 minutes...

After all a tracker uses traces to find someone... he couldn't help if there were no traces.

Anyway, I continued to move towards it until I was right in front of him... and he did not see me... this is what happens when you train stealth to an unbelieving degree...

As long as I won't try to expose bloodlust I can't be seen by others... and they aren't much strong or have enhanced senses...

And this deer is clearly weaker than what one needs to defend from me...

And so, soundlessly I took the spear that was on my back, and with a simple sweeping motion I took off his head.

You Gained 5 exp!

I dismissed the blue screen and watched as the blood pool formed where the decapitated head was.

I didn't wait and took a rope that I used to tie to close the blood vessel to transport it without making a mess.

I could also have used my [Inventory], but then people would question where that deer came from.

So, I continued the weekly routine I had done since I was six and placed down a sled from my [Inventory] and placed the corpse with its head on...

If you want to know, making a sled from the materials you bring into the backpack is not unusual so people won't question its origin.

As I walked, my mind wondered about those four years that passed since I started to train...

I can say for certain that while I was not a naive child and knew a bit of the true and harsh reality, I didn't have experience in hand and reality hit harder than I thought.

But now, after completing sixty-four missions, watching people I knew die in front of me and participating in what you could say was a real battle made me more mature... no, wiser.

I was already mature for my age, and my Wis is currently my highest stat, but the wisdom I gained is not something like a game character stat, but more like the true experience of the older generation...

I felt like a soldier who survived the world war... the way I perceived life was changed.

I still make jokes and shit, but my behavior changed slightly... Nikolay and Old Tree noticed it pretty quickly, even before me.

The moment I saw my house my mind returned from nostalgia and moved towards tomorrow...

The day I will go out and discover the world...

---

The day of departure arrived and I could say happily that it was tearless... for the most part.

The moment I stepped out of my house, Nikolay, Old Tree, and other members of the group came to send the last regards...

There were about forty people, all of them with whom I shared pleasant memories like both my teachers and unpleasant ones like the mercenaries with whom I fought together.

There were even a few of Old Tree's wives... he certainly came here to brag about them.

Everyone gave me a pendant that contained a photo of a white owl and the words 'Vasiliev Dmitrievich Savin, Best Wingman'

I didn't put it in my luggage and opted to wear it immediately, something that pleased the others greatly.

Only my two teachers gave me something else.

Old Tree gifted me a box of needles, with the words 'Graduated Student' on it. If I remember correctly, in Shenzou when a student completed his studies, his master would gift him something that was proof of it.

As I used Old Tree needles for acupuncture all the time, his graduation gift was this box.

While Nikolay gave me a small knife. It was an item he took on his first mission and my dad had one similar once but he lost it after a few months.

He didn't want to give me something useful, but something meaningful. He didn't care that it would only rust with time, but it could be something like a good luck charm.

After a few exchanges, everyone accompanied me to my parents' tomb before saying their farewells to me.

There wasn't anyone who teared up... everyone resisted not making this moment sad, probably because the one who teared up would become a joke to the group... after all, as mercenaries, we would send out companions off with a smile even on their deathbed...

Anyway, I moved in front of both my parent's tomb and stood there...

My eyes reddened and few sobs escaped my throat, but I bit the inside of my cheek and forced a smile.

"Mom, Dad, I'm going now... See you later"

The moment I turned back, the tear I forcefully blocked, escaped...

But I didn't stop, nor did I cry... from now on it was my path... mine and mine only.
