Chapter 3: Chapter Three : Shopping and Hunt
Joe was walking through the busy market, He was looking for essential supplies for his upcoming trip to the Eastern part of the forest. From the little talk he had with John he understood that there will be some entitled young masters present in this trip. 'Sigh How will I deal with those bastards'. Unlike John who he knew and had a tolerable behavior, He had no expectations for the young lords of the other houses.
"Let's just hope they won't be complaining all the time".
As he passed by a stall selling weapons, he saw a familiar face. It was Amy, his friend from the guild. She was also a hunter, skilled in tracking and fighting wild beasts. She waved at him and smiled.
"Hey, Joe what are you doing here? preparing for a new mission I guess" Amy asked.
"Yeah, I got a new mission probably next week it's with some young lord to the eastern part of the forest. Do you have any idea how the terrain there ?" he asked.
"Nah, I got no idea never visited that part, You should ask some information brokers or someone you could trust" she replied.
"I heard a rumor that there is ruine or so treasure in that part, I think they're planning to find it. So be careful" she said.
"Yeah I heard the rumor but it's been so long and many have searched for it, I don't think it's there. But thanks for the warning." Joe thanked her.
"Well, good luck with that. You'll need it. The eastern forest is not a place for amateurs. You should do some research before you go. Maybe talk to some of the veterans at the guild. They might have some useful tips for you," she suggested.
"Thanks for the advice. I'll do that. By the way, what are you doing here? Looking for a new weapon?" he asked.
"Yeah, My sword got broken and I gave it to the blacksmith to repair it and I am looking for another one" She replied.
"You want any help or company" Joe asked.
"Nah, I will find it soon, And I have my party members here too so I can't keep them waiting. It's good seeing you Joe, Bye" She went to the next stall saying that.
'Wow, that felt like a rejection. It's a good thing no one saw it' Saying that to himself Joe went on with his purchase.
Joe finished buying his supplies and headed to the guild building. He wanted to get some information about the eastern forest from the veterans who had been there before. He hoped they would be willing to share their knowledge and experience with him at the right price.
He entered the guild hall and looked around. He saw many explorers of different ages and backgrounds, some resting, some chatting, some studying maps and books. He recognized some of them as his friends and acquaintances, while others were strangers to him.
He went to the table placed in the corner and sat next to an old man, this is the person who provided information about the terrain and monsters in a certain location.
"I'm planning to go to the eastern forest soon, I need the list of monsters and details about the terrain in that area. when can I get the required information" He asked the man.
"Just come to this spot tomorrow with the cash, same price as usual" the old man replied.
After that Joe Left the guild building and went straight to his Inn.
the next day after collecting the information from the old man Joe went to the market to purchase some potions and trap items for the trip.
After that, he went to the forest for his usual hunting.
At the inner part of the forest, Joe usually does not approach this place due to the monster here being more powerful, but the mission he had selected required him to collect a certain type of plant that only grows in this part of the forest.
After searching for a while he couldn't find the plant, as he was returning to the teleportation station he heard a sound from his right side and quickly jumped from the spot a gaint bolder was thrown towards him and he escaped it.
When he looked at the being who attacked him he was shocked to see a two and a half meter tall ape running straight at him.
He quickly jumped to a tree climbed up and hid by its branches. But the ape had seen him climbing the tree and so it attacked him by throwing another rock towards him. Seeing that a battle is inevitable Joe decided to attack the ape with all he got.
Joe took out his sword and slashed at the ape's arm, hoping to draw blood and slow it down. But the ape was too fast and agile, dodging his attack and swinging its massive fist at him. Joe barely managed to roll out of the way, feeling the wind from the ape's blow.
He quickly got up and cast a fireball spell, hurling it at the ape's face. The ape roared in pain and anger, covering its eyes with its hands. Joe seized the opportunity and ran towards it, aiming for its chest with his swords.
But the ape was not as blinded as he thought. It saw him coming and grabbed one of his swords with its hand, snapping it in half. Joe gasped and tried to pull away, but the ape was stronger. It lifted him up and threw him across the clearing, sending him crashing into a tree.
Joe felt a sharp pain in his ribs and coughed up blood. He looked up and saw the ape charging at him, ready to finish him off. He knew he had one chance left. He gathered all his remaining magic and focused it on his other sword, making it glow with a bright light.
He waited until the ape was close enough, then thrust his sword forward, aiming for its heart. The sword pierced through the ape's chest, making it stagger and fall to the ground. Joe collapsed as well, exhausted and wounded.
He was so exhausted and the wounds did not help the situation.
He took out 3 healing potions from his pouch and consumed it. After resting for a while he cut the beast's body and took out its core the beast was around C rank.
"This will let me cover the healing expenses," he said as he walked to the teleportation station. He did not take the corpse because of the exhaustion and staying there would bring him more trouble.
He had won this battle but it took a lot out of him.
"sigh once in a while I get this reality check I bet that guy who sent me here is laughing now," Joe said to himself.
